The fabulous Katie is on Faces of Beauty today! Stop in and say hi :) Oh my goodness it's Friday! I thought we'd never make it, and at the same time this week has flown by in the most insane way. Someone please tell me it's not just me! Remember that one time when I showed y'all my perfect biscuit recipe? And professed my deep, deep, DEEP love of all things bread? Well what you say to, oh, adding a 1/2 cup of cheese to the mix? That's right, I said it: cheese. Good, ... continue reading...
Cherry Nutella Brownies
Gorgeous Trini is on Faces of Beauty today! After yesterday's post you didn't think I would just let go of the Nutella-cherry jam combo, did you? Especially since I bought a 2-pack of it at CostCo this week as a "surprise present" for Nate :) I told you guys, first loves never die...and this is definitely a first love. I think it's pretty clear where my inspiration for these brownies came from, and I have to say I don't know if I can ever EVER go back to regular old brownies ... continue reading...
My Favorite Ornament
JOY. Because when it comes down to it this is what the season's all about. It's not about the lack of money, the rush to find gifts, the price of gas when you drive crazy distances to see loved ones. It's about the JOY of what this season represents, taking JOY in our loved ones and the fact that we get to see them this season, the JOY of cooking things that are truly memorable, and the JOY of the gift of Jesus. And this is why this is my favorite ornament. Because since it is ... continue reading...
Match Made in Heaven
Joyce is on Faces of Beauty today with a beautiful story! I don't expect you to already know this, but I'm a tad bit obsessed with Nutella. And I don't expect anyone to know this because I haven't quite advertised it yet. But today I'm stepping out with my newest addiction...after all I had to find something to replace coffee with! I remember when we first met...me a goofy college sophomore dressed in workout clothes, him a sweet and confident hazelnut spread dressed in a clear ... continue reading...
Easiest Dinner Ever
All I have to say right now is THANK GOODNESS for Foodbuzz and Hickory Farms because after our Thanksgiving festivities were said and done and there was no food to be found in the house we had the easiest dinner known to man. As a member of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker Program I was lucky enough to be one of the recipients of this lovely box of cheese, summer sausage, and mustard. And thanks to Nate's endless cracker love we had the best accompaniment we could ask for! We had a hefty sampling of ... continue reading...
Me Against the Christmas Tree
Beautiful and amazing Ashley is on Faces of Beauty today! First things first I feel the need to get this off my chest: I'm addicted to caffeine. I'm the reason Starbucks has massive sizes for coffee, I'm the reason the vending machine runs out of Diet Coke in the breakroom when I need a quick afternoon fix. I'm the reason our coffee machine at home is quickly wearing down. It's me. It's all me. So lately I've decided that it would be a good idea to break myself of this ... continue reading...
The Lost Girls
Have I ever mentioned that I love reading? I do...it's one of the things that brings me true joy in life...right up there with butter, bacon, cheese, and baking with butter, bacon, and cheese. Oh, and sugar. Don't want to forget that one. I've recently started to carve out time in my crazy hectic schedule to read every day just for fun and enjoyment, and I have to say that I have overcome my fear of new books and have really started to delve into some really fantastic ones. A prime example ... continue reading...
The Pie Crust
There's a fun reminder on Faces of Beauty today! I'm throwing this out there, but don't judge him on this alone: Nate doesn't actually like pumpkin pie. At all. From what I can tell it's a texture thing, but bless his big heart he just can't stand it! Pecan pie though? It's a staple for him every year for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. And, bless his big heart, he married me...the one who can't seem to bake a pecan pie for her life. This is where Mom steps in and saves the day ... continue reading...
Beware the Exploding Apples
I had big dreams for this dish....BIG DREAMS! I even carefully measured out every ingredient, painstakingly and thoughtfully deciding which spices and fillers I wanted in there. I cored the apples perfectly, making them smooth and round and perfect for stuffing. I hand-picked the appropriate sized baking dish, one that would fit all the apples but not be stuffed to the brim, allowing the heat to even wrap them in a blanket of warmth in which to bake them to perfection. I checked and ... continue reading...
The Huckleberry
One of the things I love most about holidays and vacations is the ability to go eat breakfast at fun, local, CUTE places around town. Since Nate and I were lucky enough to have the day off yesterday we decided to try out The Huckleberry in downtown Louisville, a cute little bakery and shop that I had seen many times but never been in. Why oh why have I not been here before?! Anywhere that has this sign plastered on the exterior of their building should be a shoo-in. $3 dessert happy hour? ... continue reading...
The Table
There's just something about the Thanksgiving table that's almost sacred...it just HAS to be pretty! I love the clear glass look...add some candles and you've got the most gorgeous light! See that fireplace in the background? It's painted a gold metallic with some sort stenciling...but I want that to change. What would you do to paint that? Colors, textures, tiles? Let me know! ... continue reading...
Sweet Rum Pecan Glaze
'Tis the season for pecans in this girl's world! I remember growing up (and to this day) my parents have always picked up pecans around our neighborhood and taken the nuts to be shelled during the fall. Besides the fact that pecans have been a favorite nut of my family for generations I actually don't love them raw. But there's just something about those little flat brown nuts that makes me excited when they get all toasty! So yes, this is brown sugar pound cake that is covered to the max ... continue reading...
