Great Aunt Ruth’s Macaroons

I have to say, for a while there I was so annoyed with the number of people posting about macaroons.  It just seemed like everyone and their mom was making them and proclaiming them as the end-all be-all of cookies.  And I was annoyed. Why?  Who really knows these things...even I don't know how to explain myself sometimes.  HOWEVER, after trying this recipe that I found in my great-aunt's recipe box in Oklahoma I am proud to admit that my annoyance was not well founded. They're the easiest ... continue reading...

White Chocolate Hazelnut Granola

When it comes to breakfast foods, I have to say that I think I WAY overdid it on the yogurt/granola combination in the past.  Not that I don't still like it, but I'm very picky about the kind of yogurt (Greek please) and granola (homemade please) and how often I eat it.  Yet another little quirk y'all get to learn about today! And when it comes to granola I like mine to be clumpy and crunchy, sweet and full of flavor.  And FULL of nuts because that's what makes the world go 'round. (twss) I'll ... continue reading...

Confessions of a Life Blogger, Part I

If I had to choose between a long road trip or a quick flight to any destination, I would pick road trip ever time. The level of social awkwardness I can have is shocking.   I wish all of life was a musical where we would all break out into synchronized song and dance to express our every emotion. My favorite songs oscilate between early 90's Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beethoven, and back again.   I love chicken-flavored Ramen.  Always have, always will, no apologies. Blogging has ... continue reading...

Green Chile Beef Stew

Here's a confession for you:  I would eat savory food any day of the week over sweet stuff.  ANY DAY. Which is actually quite the shock since I spend so much time baking and quality-control checking for the blog...but nonetheless savory food is my weakness.   Especially if it contains garlic, cheese, and butter, oh my!   When it comes to easy dinner recipes this takes the (savory) cake!  Crock pots are a god-send, and this is even one of those that you can just throw everything in ... continue reading...

Snowflake

Word on the street is it's supposed to snow tonight in the Denver area. I'm not sure if I believe it seeing as how it was 60 degrees yesterday. But I'm praying...praying for a Colorado Christmas-time miracle!   Do you like snowy Christmases?  What are your Christmas plans? ... continue reading...

Smoked Pecans

Have you submitted your Faces of Beauty post yet?  Click here to find out how!   Here's a little secret for you:  I used to hate pecans.  HATED them.  I didn't know the flavor and thought they looked funny and didn't think they were worth eating unless coated in sugar and baked in a pie.  Pie will change the flavor of most things for the better.  HOWEVER, I'm not afraid to admit that I'm wrong, so when I was making a list of holiday treats I wanted to share with you guys I immediately ... continue reading...

Hockey Night

Hockey.  That sport that no one really plays in the heart of West Texas.  The sport that I am completely clueless about.  That one where it's cold and you have to wear a jacket to go watch it...INDOORS. When does the first down happen? Nate and I were lucky enough to get 2 really great seats to the hockey game last night between the Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks.  We decided to hit up the concession stand and split a cheesesteak sandwich and fries: And then made our way out to ... continue reading...

Baked Brie & Apple Pockets

Believe it or not it was only a short year ago when I first discovered brie.  I know.  Poor, sad, deprived me!  I guess I had always been scared of it with the rind all over it and didn't know that things other than cheddar and bleu cheese could taste good.  Basically that drought was broken when we went to the cheese importers with our friends Emma and David and she, being one of the most experienced foodies I know, mentioned she'd like to take some brie home.  Not one to be the wimp in the ... continue reading...

My Babies

I might be a little obsessed with my dogs.  Might be = I am DEFINITELY obsessed with my dogs.  I am 100% that dog owner that thinks they're dogs are the cutest, best, sweetest, funniest, most wonderful pups in the world. Unless you have them on a leash.  That's a different story. Bunker is the older of our two dogs and most definitely the least mature.  He is a chocolate lab/Chesapeake Bay retriever mix that we adopted from the SPCA in the Northern Dallas area.  We got him when he was 8 weeks ... continue reading...

Reindeer Bites

Clare is sharing her incredible Faces of Beauty post today!   I don't know about you, but sometimes I just need something sweet.  You know, when it's Friday evening and you've busted it all week and are emotionally and physically drained and all you want is, oh I don't know, a blizzard from Dairy Queen?  Not that I know from experience, I'm just asking if maybe that's happened to someone else out there.   OK FINE.  I know from experience.   Anyway, I might have had that same need ... continue reading...

New Moon Bakery

Alright guys, I'm about to let you in on a little secret.  Well, it might not be much of a secret to some, but still.  Humor me. We are fortunate enough to have access to a little ski area, Eldora Mountain, through work.  It's located about 20(ish) miles from Boulder, right outside of a town called Nederland (pronounced Ned-er-land, shortened to 'Ned').  It's small but a LOT of fun, with incredibly friendly staff and pretty good snow. But that's not the secret.  Nor is this random photo I ... continue reading...
