Well guys, the trip is almost over! I'm so sad to have to leave, but I know it's going to be good to get home and relax a bit before starting work again. We're driving from Texas to Colorado today! I decided to fuel with some protein oats, something I haven't had in MONTHS: When I first started blogging everyone and their mom was eating oats all.the.time, so I did too. Then I realized I don't really like doing that, so I stopped...but today it just sounded good :) I guess that's ... continue reading...
Traditions
Hello from Lubbock, Texas...my hometown! Yesterday we drove up from the Dallas area, only to be greeted by my amazing family and our traditional New Year's Eve meal: CHILI!!! Of course we started with chips: And guac...I mean really, how could you not? It's so good :) The chili was my mom's recipe with onions, garlic, ground turkey, and 2 types of beans. It was amazing and perfect after a day of traveling! I'm stoked to spend the rest of the day relaxing and watching college ... continue reading...
The Mothership
If you see signs out front like this, it must be a good sign. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have seen this tweet yesterday...and I have to say that it still holds true. Central Market is like the Disney World of food, and I wanted nothing more but to strap on my Mickey Mouse ears and stand in line :) They have some of the most incredible options in fresh produce, organic, local, or otherwise, and they're not afraid to show it off. They have an insane amount of meats, poultry, and ... continue reading...
Christmas Replay
Word on the street is that Denver is supposed to get 8 inches of snow today. Because of course it would wait til we're gone to snow where we live. And of course it would wait til after Christmas. Of course. I think we need a Christmas replay for when we get back...only this time it snows all.day.long. Who's with me?! ... continue reading...
Plate ‘O’ Pork
I'm a little late with this post, but let's be honest here: this is what I would like for breakfast every day of my life. With extra gravy. Please and thank you. Our last morning in Little Rock was spent at Nate's Mimom's house, where we were served with amazingly low-sugar baked fruit, biscuits, bacon gravy, and... ...PORK!!! Ham, bacon, and sausage to be exact. And while we're being honest here I think it's fair to say that I don't know anyone that wouldn't love at least ... continue reading...
New Christmas Tree
I don't know how these things come to mind, but I just can't help it sometimes! I feel as though I just discovered sliced bread...this is going to be my Christmas tree next year! Why? Well, a certain someone who writes this blog but shall remain nameless has a certain propensity of injury in the kitchen and might need the certain healing properties of a certain aloe plant from time to time. It only makes sense to decorate it and put Christmas gifts underneath, don't you ... continue reading...
The Shower
No, no, I'm not talking about my dislike of showers. That's for another post. This one's about my future sister-in-law's shower that I went to yesterday. And the fact that it was at one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Maggiano's Little Italy. Give me Italian food any day of the week and I'm a very happy camper indeed! The menu was full of amazing food, a lot of which isn't shown because I ate it all. No, seriously. All gone. Finuto. What's that? You still want to ... continue reading...
Missing the Kinection
Please forgive us...we had just eaten and I think we were food drunk... And for me? Just keep in mind that I had a pasta baby (you know the kind...where your abdominal muscles have zero control and you just can't suck it in) in my stomach and was scared of spontaneous vomiting at any moment... ... continue reading...
Authentic
It's official: I'm on a mission. A mission for an amazing Italian tomato sauce that either comes from or rivals the best secret family recipes from Italy. For starters, I'll need some wine. And salad? Sure, why not?! I'm sure the extra nutrients would help my brain on this tedious mission... You see, ever since hanging out with Nate's Papa the other day (he's 100% Italian, born in Italy) I've been craving not only eating a really great spaghetti and meatball meal, but I've been ... continue reading...
Nate vs Kids
And this is how Nate will work out when we have kids :) ... continue reading...
The Big Dam Bridge
I'm so glad I'm not the only one obsessed with reading old cookbooks...I know they're not technically literature, but they're still amazing! Yesterday, other than my sister in law Chrissy and I completely wearing ourselves out on the hills of Little Rock, it was a pretty uneventful day. We worked out, ate breakfast, napped, and ran some errands around town. And then we went to the Big Dam Bridge. Really...see? It crosses the Arkansas River and has incredible views in ... continue reading...
New Obsession
I have a new obsession. It's called collecting family cookbooks, only to sit back and read them nostalgically as if I lived during the 1940's and before. I really think I might need a life... ... continue reading...
