Biscuits Revisited

The fabulous Katie is on Faces of Beauty today!  Stop in and say hi 🙂

Oh my goodness it’s Friday!  I thought we’d never make it, and at the same time this week has flown by in the most insane way.  Someone please tell me it’s not just me!

Remember that one time when I showed y’all my perfect biscuit recipe?  And professed my deep, deep, DEEP love of all things bread?  Well what you say to, oh, adding a 1/2 cup of cheese to the mix?

That’s right, I said it:  cheese.  Good, tangy, crumbly/creamy, super sharp Dubliner cheese to be exact (although you could use any sharp cheddar you want).  Talk about a face lift, these biscuits, which are great on their own, are incredible with cheese.  And what better way to end a week on a good note than fresh-baked, hot, cheesy, irresistible biscuits?  I’ll take that over a stiff cocktail any day.

Growing up we always had biscuits with a little bit of butter and strawberry jam.  And by ‘we’ I mean I did that and the rest of my family ate theirs with butter and honey.  So this morning as I was contemplating that memory I decided today was the day:  I was taste-testing the difference between the two TODAY.

The biscuits came out of the oven.

I fainted with delight.

Upon awakening I spread them with butter.

I seized the jam from the fridge and the honey from the cupboard (side note:  Nate made fun of me for saying cupboard yesterday.  He said that no one’s said that word since the 18th Century.  I beg to differ).

I spread the jam on one half and drizzled the honey on the other.

I stared in anticipation through my camera lens.

And then I tasted.

(Drumroll….)

AND THE WINNER IS: both!  First of all in my defense when you have a great biscuit you can just eat it plain and it will rock your world anyway.  Second, they were really both fantastic.  I love the creaminess and the super-rich sweetness the honey added.  What can I say?  I’m a sucker for sweet.  But the jam was cool against the hot biscuit and had a fabulous sweet-tart flavor.  How could I pick just one?  But this means that I will now have to have both jam and honey on hand when making biscuits though…

I think the only solution is a rematch.

What about you?  Jam, honey, nothing at all, or something else on your biscuits?

Happy Friday!

Biscuits will be my downfall. I make a batch and must eat them all. It’s a compulsion.

There really is nothing like a moist, buttery biscuit! I can go without any sort of topping, but I do lean towards butter 🙂

Pea Daddy wants me to remake the Red Lobster cheddar biscuits this week. Nothing is beneath me. His wish is my command.

I’m a jam girl for sure. But if you whipped up either of these for me, no way in Cracker Barrel would I be able to say no.

I think saying “cupboard” makes the biscuits, jam, honey, butter, cheese, etc. taste all the better 😉

Nothing beats my grandmother’s homemade strawberry jam on warm biscuits using my mom’s recipe when I’m homesick!

Honey over a cheese biscuit sounds fabulous! I also just love ’em warm and coated with butter melting into it!

I never ate biscuits until I moved to VA and my husband was all about them. I love them with honey–that was a revelation to me.

I say cabinets. Though cupboard does sound very proper and English or something.

I adore biscuits. I think they are probably my favorite breakfast food, but I rarely have them. I always do half with honey and half with jam actually. How funny!

I say “cupboard” all the time! What are you supposed to call them?

And we never had biscuits growing up, and I’ve only made them from scratch once. I actually really just like them with butter – no honey or jam. I would die over cheese ones!

Oooh. Biscuits. Perfect weather for them! I like nothing but butter on my biscuits, that way I can truly savor the flavor of the bread with no distractions!
