Last night I was out of my element. Totally out. We had our friends Robbie and Stefanie over for dinner, and they brought their friend Mariah (who is wonderful!). The problem - which, by the way, turned out to not be a problem at all - Mariah can't eat gluten OR dairy. Everything I make has one or both of those in it! Thanks so some amazing Twitter friends I got some fantastic answers. But when Nate and I decided we wanted to take more of a classic comfort food spin rather ... continue reading...

Chocolate Chip Cookies – My Way
I don't accept defeat well. In fact, my husband would probably say that I don't accept defeat at all. Ever. This is nice...when you're playing a sport and have the desire to win. It's not so great during marital spats and baking chocolate chip cookies at altitude. If you've been reading this blog for any length of time you probably know the following: Nate loves chocolate chip cookies. So much so that we had them in lieu of a groom's cake at our wedding. I love to bake. I love to bake ... continue reading...

My Valentine
Although I don't really feel like Valentine's Day needs to happen to show love to others, I have to say that I am so incredibly thankful for my amazing Valentine. Nate, you are wonderful in every sense of the word, and I love you more than I could ever express with words. I love every moment I get to spend with you, laughing, eating, loving, walking, talking, driving, whatever. It all makes me happy because of YOU. I love you! ... continue reading...
Sex Party
This weekend I went to a sex party. Actually, I went just a couple hours after church. Sex party? Oh, yeah, it's a shindig where friends and family gather together to find out the sex of a couple's baby. Get your mind out of the gutter. Our friends Robbie and Stefanie had the sonogram on Tuesday that revealed the gender of their baby, but rather than finding out then they elected to have a party to share the news with everyone! And guess who made the cupcakes that had the ... continue reading...
The Day I Met Ree Drummond
I never said I was smooth. Ever. In fact, the level of social awkwardness that can overtake me at times is pretty distressful. Really, promise. Just ask anyone that knows me. Good thing I can cook... Yesterday, after hosting a baby shower for my amazing friend Emma, Nate and I headed down to the Tattered Cover bookstore (it's amazing...you MUST go there if you're in Denver!) in LoDo to see Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman, aka my favorite blogger. To say I was a tad nervous is an ... continue reading...
Baked Cherry Pies
I'm going 100% Sandra Lee on this one, and don't even care. Neither will you once you taste them! There are just some things that can't be messed up, and one of those is store-bought biscuit dough. I will say that when I want biscuits, I want the real deal, but it's so easy to bake with store-bought doughs. And by bake I mean make desserts out of things that were never made to be desserts. It's just how I roll. Speaking of rolling, that's exactly what you do to the biscuits before ... continue reading...
Door to Door
Door to Door Organics that is! Earlier this week I received a box filled with organic produce from this amazing company, and our house is now chock-full of options for dinners, salads, and baked goods. Pretty amazing, right? But wait! It gets even better. Door to Door Organics brings fresh, local (when they can), organic produce to your front door or office for a fraction of the prices that you would find at places like Whole Foods. I'm not knocking Whole Foods, but seriously...eating ... continue reading...
Oatmeal Cake
As much as I feel I've established my dislike for oatmeal, I feel equally as strong that I've established my affinity for cakes and all things butter and sugar. So when I ran across this old recipe when I was home for Christmas, I knew I had to make it. Had to happen. I was making it! The recipe calls for quick-cooking rolled oats, and I would say it's probably for the best. You could certainly use old-fashioned rolled oats, but I think the texture would be a lot more oat-y. And if you're ... continue reading...
Orange Yogurt Muffins
Autumn is on Faces of Beauty today! It must be orange season. Hence the 50 million oranges I have inside of my house whilst there's 5 feet of snow on the ground. OK, maybe it's 5 oranges and 5 inches of snow on the ground. I've been sick...you can't really expect too much from me in the truth department! Except when I tell you these muffins are heavenly and you should make them ASAP. Then you should run to your kitchen and start on them the minute you're done reading. I ... continue reading...
Pancake Love
This morning I woke up: A) With a fever again, B) With a craving for pancakes, C) With 5 more inches of snow on the ground, or D) All of the above If you said "D" then you win! I don't know what just yet, but you win...that's enough, right? :) Anyway, yes...I have a fever again. And it feels terrible. Since when did the flu last a solid week even when someone's laying in bed? I remember the good ol' days when the flu was a 24-hour bug and it just meant staying home with ... continue reading...
