A quick note: this post is in no way complete, but it's going to be all I can emotionally put out there in this very moment. This blog is about my love of food, but I've always tried to document my life on it as well. If you have questions feel free to email me as I will not be able to answer questions in the comments at this time. ________________________________________________________ January 1, 2011: I emerged from my childhood bathroom with these in hand. We had just found out I was ... continue reading...
Comfort
Last night's dinner was perfect. Perfect I tell you. Pasta with homemade meat sauce (recipe to come...still needs to be perfected), cheesy garlic bread, and chocolate chip cookies. Reminds me of dinner when I was younger (minus the salad - I just didn't feel like going to the store), sitting with my family around the dinner table, and love. And that's why they call it comfort food! ___________________________________________________________ Again, thank you so much for all of ... continue reading...
Pain
Thank you guys so much for being so loving even without specifics. I just never knew my heart could hurt this much, but even through the pain I can see God's love being poured out through our family, our friends, and from you. I'm just posting these songs because I love them and they are solid reminders of the abundant grace that we've been given. I love you guys and am so thankful for your love for me. You guys are helping me find light in a very dark time. Love, Heather ... continue reading...
Thoughts & Prayers
Hey everyone. Last night I got some news that I'm not really prepared to talk about on here, but I need something from you guys: thoughts and prayers. Lots of them. Y'all mean the world to me, and I hope that in time I can find the words to talk about it. Love, Heather ... continue reading...
My Thoughts Exactly
It's a 3-slice-kind-of-day. Please send some ASAP. I won't be picky, but I do like chocolate...you know, just in case. ... continue reading...
Mexican Rice
Last night I was a cooking machine. And a Mexican food cooking machine at that! For dinner we had chicken chili, and then I started on making brownie batter cookies, taco meat, and Mexican rice. Hey, I was hungry. OK - fine. The taco meat and rice was for tonight and the cookies were for a beautiful lady who bid on them in an online bake sale. But what if I was hungry? I know y'all wouldn't judge ;) Regardless, I'm not here to talk about all that. What I'm here to talk ... continue reading...
My New Favorite Snack
I have a confession: I don't actually like granola. There, I said it. I can make it, and boy do I love giving it as gifts...but when it comes to actually enjoying it? Not really my thing. That being said, when I was offered some samples of Love Grown granola from the company I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to go through with. However, Ashley had nothing but tons of praise for this company and their product, so I said yes and received 5 full bags of their granola in the mail ... continue reading...
Classic
Bread. There's just something about that doughy, yeasty, soft ambrosia that makes my heart sing. I like it all ways...just cutting a slice straight from the source, toasting it, or even just taking a bite out of a loaf. OK - I've never actually done that last one. Something about it not being socially acceptable or making all the other bread-lovers in the house mad... All this to say that I'm about to share my favorite sweet way to enjoy bread (besides, you know, bread ... continue reading...
Cream Cheese Banana Bread
Yesterday I was sitting there wondering what to make. I knew it had to be something good and something with bananas, what with the 3 overly ripe beauties sitting on my counter. Not only that, I also had a craving for banana bread but had some cream cheese in the fridge to use up. Suddenly Cream Cheese Banana Bread was born! I used this recipe, adding and taking away ingredients according to what I had on hand and what I know works at high altitudes. The only problem? It says to make 2 8x4 ... continue reading...
Vacation Frame of Mind
I don't know about y'all, but I'm dreaming of faraway tropical places, bathing in sunshine, summertime BBQs, and sundresses. But mostly faraway, tropical places. Please and thank you. ... continue reading...
Salted Caramel Cake
To be clear, the cake part is actually chocolate - poor, unassuming, regular chocolate cake. Sure, you can use a boxed mix like I did. Or you could use your Grandma's best chocolate cake recipe. Or any chocolate cake recipe. Just make a chocolate cake and let it quietly cool as you begin the frosting that will change that cake's life. And by that cake's life, I mean YOUR life. You get to be the cake this time! The frosting you make the night before using 5 ingredients. You let it ... continue reading...
