I can’t believe how long it’s taken me to show you guys more of my trip to San Diego with Bumble Bee Foods! I looked forward to this trip for a full calendar year and now it feels like it was months ago that I went. Time is a’flying, I promise you that!
So let’s see – I left off last time with an amazing dinner with a fabulous friend, and I already told y’all about the dreamy lunch with Bumble Bee Foods the second day. After lunch was over I ran back to my room at our hotel and changed clothes. When I am close to the ocean I literally can only think about when the next time is that I get to go see the water. I crave it. I knew I would likely be going back to La Jolla Sunday morning before heading to the airport, and so Saturday night I decided that Coronado Island was calling my name.
I hopped on the highway and started driving to Coronado Island, not really knowing exactly where I was going or how long it would take me to get there. Within 10 minutes I was pulling into a parking spot outside of a Starbucks, just a few blocks from the ocean. After FaceTime with my family I headed in to get a cup of tea and walk my happy self down to the water.
I’ve talked already about how it was good for me to travel alone, and this evening totally solidified that for me. I walked up and down the beach on Coronado, taking a billion pictures and gulping in the salt air. Kids screaming and playing, adults panicking when their feet touched the cold water, brides and grooms smiling and taking it all in. These are the things that a really simple life is made of, you know? And sometimes getting to watch others experience that life is just an incredible thing.
I walked up and down the beach for about 90 minutes, simultaneously loving every second of sunset and also wishing it would never end. It was glorious!
Ali and I had already planned on meeting up for dinner (she was there with her adorable family!), so after my wandering I met them up by a hotel and we walked to a little Italian place down the street. To be totally honest I don’t remember the name of the restaurant or even what I ordered, but I had an absolute blast getting to know Ali & her husband Brady better. Truly honestly amazing people!
After a rendezvous for froyo we parted ways. I stopped in a gift shop to get a T-shirt for Wes and then headed back to the hotel, making a quick stop at Trader Joe’s for some goodies to bring home (the dried mangoes. OMG). It was an early night but exactly what I needed!
I am so unbelievably thankful to Bumble Bee Foods for the fantastic trip, and so grateful for such a cool city. Isn’t it awesome how God romances us even in faraway places?!
Now I’m going to go stare at my California pictures while the rain comes in today. OY. Happy weekend y’all!
