First things first: no, I'm not pregnant. This isn't that kind of fun addition! As you all know I've recently become a Beautycounter consultant. It's fun and exciting to work with a company that is passionate about making products that are safe for everyone to use, and this new challenge has lit my soul on fire. I'm so thankful for this opportunity! That being said, I totally realize that most of you who follow my Heather's Dish Facebook page may not want to be bombarded with ... continue reading...

This week, y'all, it was kind of a doozy. I just got over being sick about a month ago (actually right at a month) and then this week a yucky little cold virus hit our house. W and I were both running around with runny noses and finding it hard to sleep, which is probably the worst part of having a cold if you ask me. The ONE THING that would help so much (sleeping) is THE ONE THING that you can't comfortably do. Anyway. It's always when I'm lacking sleep that Satan attacks me, and ... continue reading...
Sweet & Spicy Balsamic Salmon Cakes
New Year’s resolutions are funny in the way that they manifest themselves. For several years now, my husband and I have been honing in on our finances, working hard to save responsibly, give generously, and cut out the extra fluff in favor of purchases that will last. We are most certainly not perfect, hence the need to focus and re-focus several years in a row, but the intention is there and it’s a good one. I say this because one of the things I’m working on is eating well, something that ... continue reading...
How I Made the Switch to Safer with Beautycounter
When I first started to get interested in Beautycounter products I wasn't sure where to begin. I've always been a drug store skincare girl, buying my skincare and makeup alongside my frozen veggies and Diet Coke. Spending more seemed strange and counterintuitive to me. Why would I buy something that cost more when the stuff I was using worked great and was a fraction of the cost? For me, the answer to this "why" is the two small boys who call me mommy and the man I'm lucky enough to ... continue reading...
The Little Black Dress of Salad Dressings
First of all I feel like I should be open and honest here: I do not, in fact, have a little black dress. See, little black dresses are so cute and fun and flirty and I love them. However, they are not all that great for chasing children in, which is what my normal everyday consists of. I realize that the LBD isn't for everyday wear, but is instead that trusty garment that makes you feel amazing when you slide into for social occasions. My LBD isn't a dress, y'all. It's a salad ... continue reading...
15 Ways You Can You Be Your Own Barista
Coffee and I go waaaaaaaay back, y'all. For as long as I can remember both of my parents have enjoyed it throughout the day, although they drank it black which I just couldn't stomach. It's kind of hilarious now that I love it black and can't stomach all the sweetness anymore! Nonetheless, I had no interest in drinking it at home because despite the amazing aroma, coffee just didn't appeal to me the way I saw my parents drink it. Fast forward to college and I, like most of my fellow ... continue reading...

Happy Friday friends! Man alive I'm glad it's the weekend. I'm also glad that we have doctors who can figure out what's going on with us and prescribe medicine. My little guy has medicine that should take care of his bronchitis, and he took a four hour nap (!!!) yesterday which was pretty fantastic for everyone. After a couple weeks of coughing and interrupted sleep I saw some small glimpses of my guy's personality coming out again - woohoo! I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend, ... continue reading...
And Then Life Happens
You guys have been so sweet about my announcement two days ago! In case you missed it, I've decided to join the Beautycounter team as a consultant and I couldn't be more excited. A few things you can expect: more videos, more sharing about my experience with Beautycounter, and a few calls to see who wants samples or to host online socials (and get rewarded for it)! But of course, the day after I make a huge announcement about something big happening in my career my sweet little guy ... continue reading...
Some Fun News + What to Expect!
Last week I mentioned I had some fun news, but in typical blogger fashion I left you guys hanging without much information as to what that means. I'll try to keep the backstory short today, though, because there's certainly a lot to share! Food blogging is such a dynamic and ever-changing space, and I stand by my previous statements that there's room for everyone at the table. We all have something to add to this community, but after 7-1/2 years I've felt an itch to stretch into other areas - ... continue reading...
Coconut Curry Rice
I have a confession to make: there are some meals that I make only when my husband is out of town. Specifically, I usually make a lot of recipes that include curry or very hot peppers in them because while he enjoys a little spice, I really love the heat! I remember my mom and dad telling me stories about my Grandpa sitting down to eat jalapeños, sweating profusely, with a huge smile on his face. I remember doing the same thing at a restaurant we were regulars at when we'd vacation ... continue reading...

HELLO SNOWY FRIDAY! How are you guys doing on this fine (albeit very cold) morning? We are rocking the snow day jammies + breakfast in my house and I'm admittedly very happy to have Nate home for the morning at least. Fun fact: it's out 10 year anniversary today! In my mind I had a great anniversary post planned out, but the actual writing of said post hasn't happened yet so now we have a lovely links post instead :) I feel like curating these things has been so helpful in seeing ... continue reading...
On Resolutions: Part 3
I feel like this next post on resolutions (the first two are here and here) could become a story so very long that it might be best in book form. I'll try to keep it as short as possible, though, to keep from boring you guys too much. When I jumped into blogging almost 8 years ago the whole industry was completely different. It was close, a tight-knit community of (mostly) women who were sharing their lives via unedited photos and open hearts. We read about the lives of our favorite bloggers, ... continue reading...
