Simple Gingered Peach Bars

The other day I did something new and super fancy - I bought a great big knob of fresh ginger.   Yes, it's true.  I did it, and I'm glad I did!  Turns out fresh ginger isn't scary, hard to use or gross.  It's, oh I don't know, probably one of the friendliest, easiest and yummiest ingredients out there!  I can't remember where I read to do this, but somewhere along my blogging adventure I read that if you peel ginger with a spoon it's super easy to peel.   Know what?  That's ... continue reading...

Blog Love: Garlic Beef Stew and Savory Cauliflower Mash

I've been doing a lot of baking and dessert-y things on the blog this week.   Why?   No clue.  It just seems like the right thing to do to stand in my kitchen and sweat with the oven on while I hand-wash bowls and pans and listen to the dishwasher run.  I guess?   Anyway, I've also been cooking REAL food...you know, the kind that you would and should actually eat for dinner?  The kind that fills your mouth with flavor and your tummy with wholesomeness?  Yeah, I ... continue reading...

Five Months Old!

Well y'all, today marks the day that Weston turns 5 months old!  Long gone are the days of newborn snuggles and sleepiness; we are welcoming new experiences, lots of smiles and a great big new voice! Wes is now officially an ambi-turner, meaning he will roll from back to front on both sides now.  We're still working on the back to front rolling; he can actually do it, but that doesn't mean that he'll do it willingly.  He's not a fan at all of being on his tummy!  Although when he IS on ... continue reading...

Honey Balsamic Roasted Cherries

I have a cherry to pit with you guys.   HA!  I kid, I kid...I don't have a cherry to pit with you guys.  Because I spent my whole life yesterday pitting all of these bad boys - no more pits up in here! Really though, can we just confirm real fast that pitting cherries is one of the most tedious kitchen tasks one can do?  I mean, I know that cherry pitters EXIST and all, but I'm not really the kind of gal that keeps random kitchen instruments lying around in wait for the twice a ... continue reading...

Grilled Pineapple A La Mode

Oh, hey there Monday.  I'm sure you're well-liked among some people, but can I just say that you're not really welcome right now?   Monday, you're usually not that bad.  You usually have lots of sunshine and fresh air, and you always hold the promise of a really good week to come.   But Monday?  The thing is that when you come around, knocking on my door so early in the morning, it means that Saturday and Sunday are out for 5 more days.  And that means five days of not ... continue reading...

Family Friday

How is this week over?  I can scarcely believe it...but I'm so glad to have a full 2 days to hang with my boys! From this week: Wes officially pretty much doesn't like fruit at all and I'm practically giddy about that.  Green beans?  LOVE.  Sweet potatoes?  DOUBLE LOVE.  Peaches/bananas/apples?  Although the faces he makes when he eats those are more than hilarious, he only stands about .5 ounces before he just won't open his mouth or just plain spits it out.  I like fruit, but I'm much ... continue reading...

Blog Love: Light & Tasty Zucchini Casserole

Zucchini.  It's what's on everyone's plate these days - not only is it in season, but it's pretty much the most abundant thing ever.  I remember growing up we would eat zucchini and summer squash for FOR-E-VER in the biggest variety of ways you could think of.   But this?  Yeah, we never had it like this. The moment I saw this recipe on Courtney's blog I knew I had to try it.  Creamy and cheesy and crunchy on top?  Yes please!   Besides that, Courtney is just about ... continue reading...

From A to B to C

Life is funny. It's so strange for me to look back at the years and see how I've grown and changed and matured over them.  And the funniest part about it all is how my perspective of what's important in life has completely shifted.  Something that I've noticed as a major change in my life is my body.  Maybe it's because for so many years I cared so very deeply about my physical appearance; maybe it's because my body is (obviously) a physical representation of who I am inside.  Who knows?  ... continue reading...

Indian-Spiced Palmiers

How stinking cute are these cookies?  They're like heart-shaped little wonders that will steal your, well, your heart.   Corny but true. Really though?  These palmiers are absolutely heavenly.  They are warm and spicy and have a little heat, but the sweetness keeps 'em in check.  I like to make them extra special by spreading some of my favorite cherry preserves (Bonne Maman you have my full-sized aortic pump) on it and eating with coffee.   It's like a sweet ... continue reading...

Sweet Orange Marinated Grilled Chicken

Now that summer is starting to wind down a little bit I'm starting to get back into the swing of grilling again.  It was just SO HOT before that standing in front of a grill, and I just couldn't handle the heat...so I got back in the kitchen.  But now?  Yeah, now I'm rockin' the grill again.   One of my favorite things these days is building HUGE salads for dinner, and offering salad bars of massive proportions when hosting parties.  You get your lettuce, spinach, veggies, nuts, dried ... continue reading...

First Time Artichoke Maker

'Twas but a year or so ago that I actually tried artichokes - the real thing, not just artichoke hearts on a pizza - for the very first time.   Why?   I wish I could tell you.  I mean, dunking something in butter and then scraping it off with my teeth is totally right up my alley.  It's just right.   And yet?  And yet I never dove right in and tried it.  Then one night we were feasting at a friend's house with a bunch of other awesome friends and lo and behold ... continue reading...

So Maybe I DO Like Cereal {GIVEAWAY}

I've made no secret of the fact that I am really not a cereal fan.  It's not that it tastes bad, I just am REALLY particular about the textures and the milk and when it comes down to it, it's just easier to make a great smoothie or bowl of oatmeal or something.   Well, I may have found a cereal that I actually really like.  Consider me wrong (this makes the second time that's happened! HA :) A few weeks ago I was sent these awesome Mini Wheat Little Bites, and I have to say I'm ... continue reading...
