BOY OH BOY do I have a post coming to you guys about flying with a baby! Holy goodness, I am one tired mama... But before I jump into that later on, can I just say that I'm in the process of watching Beverly Hills Nannies and am in total shock that basically these moms are paying someone else $40 an hour to do the only job that they have - being a mom? All I have to say is that if I got paid $40 an hour I would have made almost $125,000 in the past 4 months and that would sure be a nice ... continue reading...
Cinnamon Streusel Baked Donuts
So here's the thing. Wes is apparently not ever in the mood to sleep these days. Not at night, not during naptimes, nothing. I love my little dude so stinking much, but how do you tell a 4-month-old that mama needs sleep to be able to play all day long, make up silly songs, snuggle and read? 'Cause you know they don't speak English (or really any other language for that matter)...and the whole reasoning bit kind of flies out the window. Promise, I've tried. Yes, tried to ... continue reading...
Savory Bacon & Green Onion Donuts with Goat Cheese Frosting
Soooooooo I told you guys I was going to get carried away with the donuts thing, right? I promise it's a week-long thing but it will blow over soon. Well, maybe. Or not at all. I haven't decided yet... Let's be honest with ourselves here though: these donuts are really just a fabulous basic cornbread recipe filled to the brim with bacon and green onions and then topped with this ridiculously easy AND tasty goat cheese "frosting" and more bacon crumbles. It's not ... continue reading...
Red Velvet Baked Donuts
Although it has nothing really to do with these donuts, does anyone else remember the song "Black Velvet"? I heard it the other day and surprised myself by singing every.single.word. And, you know, I just had to brag on myself for a sec since that's clearly brag-worthy. Can we also just chat for a sec about the ridiculous chaps she's wearing in that video? I'm so very happy that fashion has moved forward... One thing that hasn't changed though? My love for red velvet and my love for ... continue reading...
Four Months Old!
Yesterday Weston turned 4 months old, and it's hard for me to believe that it was only a short while ago he was literally just a few minutes old. Or even stranger - he was still living inside of me! I have spent the past few days looking through all of his newborn photos and the book that we put together right after he was born and I still can't believe that he was once that small. We've also had two very dear friends have babies in the past two weeks, and when we went to visit them and ... continue reading...
Family Friday
Man, what a whirlwind this week has been! I kind of like having a holiday in the dead middle of the week...although let's be honest, a long weekend would be better. But I'll take what I can get! I'm planning on talking more about it on Sunday or Monday when I do Wes's official 4-month post (HOLDTHEPHONEHE'SGOINGTOBE4MONTHSOLD), but it's been a big week for our little man. He rolled over by himself (from front to back), laughed for the first time (video coming), tried bananas for the ... continue reading...
How to Perfectly Roast Salmon
Salmon. It's what's for dinner. Really though, there is nothing quite like a perfectly roasted piece of perfectly wild Alaskan salmon. It's the difference between dry fish and tender flaky morsels. Between fishy rubber and buttery goodness. Between a meh dinner and a melt-in-your-mouth extravaganza. I'll take the tender-flaky-morsel-buttery-goodness-melt-in-your-mouth-extravaganza please and thank you. Let's do this. First ... continue reading...
Slow Cooker Korean Shredded Beef & Creamy Asian Broccoli Slaw
It's not likely that you've seen a lot of Asian dishes on my blog and that's for good reason: I'm sort of clueless when it comes to Asian food. Like super-duper clueless. This has not served me well though; see, I love Asian and Asian-fusion food and so many times have craved it with no confidence to make it myself. Something about too many times using too much soy sauce and too little ginger, or making it too spicy because of my lack of sriracha experience. HOWEVER I have ... continue reading...
Better Than Starbucks Coconut Mocha
Once upon a time I worked for Starbucks. But you know this already. What you may not know, though, is that once upon a time they (Starbucks) had a coconut mocha - before the last time they had coconut mochas - and I started to work there literally a week after they did away with them. You guys, this was TERRIBLE. TEEEEEEEEERRIBLE. See Starbucks customers are fantastic on many levels, and I feel like I can say that because I am now one of them. But one thing ... continue reading...
Jalapeno Cheddar Polenta Bites
I have a couple of things that I'm particularly excited about. THING #1: The Olympic trials are making me crazy-excited about the actual Olympic games. I love pretty much every sport and fully plan on having the TV on nonstop while the games are going. My faves are beach volleyball, gymnastics, track & field, and indoor volleyball, but when it comes down to it I enjoy watching all of the sports. It's funny - I always thought it was weird how my parents could recall ... continue reading...
Sprinkle Bakes
The other week I had a very special delivery show up on my front porch: the new Sprinkle Bakes book! You guys, if you have not been following Heather's blog you are seriously missing out. She makes the most insanely gorgeous baked goods with some of the most gorgeous food photography I have ever seen. Her entire blog is dedicated to making dessert fun and beautiful, and she definitely brings that concept 100% to her book as well. Growing up my grandfather make cakes - like ... continue reading...
Family Friday
An alternate title (thanks Lindsay for the alternate title shebang) could be "I'm Obsessed with Instagram" or "My Phone Takes Blurry Pictures." But I figure since it's a Family Friday post that would probably be the best name :) This week has been an interesting one, mainly because our little dude seems to be growing up so quickly in both physical size and personality. He's definitely going to be one stubborn little man! He likes to do things his way at all times, which I always SAY ... continue reading...
