See that photo above? Guys, that’s the photo of a mom on the verge of losing her mind at her children who, at that point in time, had been confined to the indoors for at least 5 straight days due to rain. They were nuts. I was about to lose it. And then I was able to take a much-needed mom date with my girl Ruthanne to one of the coolest places in town now – Movie Tavern!
Nate and I have heard tales of cinematic eateries before, but up until now there hasn’t been one in the entire state of Arkansas, let alone in Little Rock. Have you ever had a date night conundrum of trying to figure out plans that coincide with a movie showing, only to find that the restaurant is running behind? Or there’s nowhere that’s open to get drinks after the show? I feel like we’re a pretty average couple, and I know that those very reasons are exactly why we haven’t been to a movie in forever.
But now. You guys, it feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders! NOW there’s Movie Tavern, where you really can get a great night out all in one place. There’s no rushing through dinner to make the movie on time, there’s no more wondering if you can grab a nightcap somewhere after the movie. A night out is easy again, no matter who you’re going out with!
When I pulled up to the VIP event last week it was pouring down rain but I was so excited to get inside! So many of you left amazing comments about your favorite movies on social media, and it was an honor to get to choose 5 of those comments to win free VIP tickets for a free night out! And what a great night it really was!
It all started at the front door where an incredibly friendly young man (how old does that make me sound? Way old, I know…) opened the door and helped me escape the rain. I got some drink tickets, my movie ticket, and headed in to see some of the sweetest friends out there enjoying the night already! There were waiters walking around with little bites of some menu favorites, and I couldn’t help but snag a slice of veggie pizza, a little slider (SO GOOD), and this awesome little toast with seared ahi on it. I could’ve made a meal of the hors d’oeuvres alone!
Ruthanne and I headed into the Tavern bar to grab our drinks, and I was really impressed with the selection. I’m not a big hard liquor person, but they had all the name brand stuff that I know Nate enjoys from time to time! As for me, I saw one of my favorite dark beers was on tap and just had to go for it. Delicious!
We listened as the entire VIP crowd was introduced to Movie Tavern, and after the ribbon cutting we headed in to see Black Panther. I had no idea what to expect…
We found some great seats and immediately settled into some of the comfiest chairs ever. I had my beer, my friend, a cozy chair – basically the opposite of how my day had gone previously. It felt good to really just relax!
After a few minutes our waitress came by to take our orders. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, trying to order and pay attention to the a movie at the same time, but she did it during the previews and it wasn’t an issue at all. I ended up choosing the spinach dip and a huge Harvest salad as my items (tried to be healthy-ish) but I saw all of the other food as it came out and it looked (and smelled) I N C R E D I B L E.
After ordering I went ahead and stretched out. True story? I had to be careful how far I stretched out because I could have gone to sleep in a hot minute!
When my food arrived it was amazing – the spinach dip was packed with spinach, which basically meant it was a superfood, and was served with warm pita bread and fresh veggies. And the salad was SO SO SO good! It had incredible flavor and texture, was full of veggies and plant-based goodness, and it was HUGE. I feel like I probably could have finished it all if I hadn’t chowed down on the hors d’oeuvres earlier (and the beer), but it’s also plenty of food to share with someone too.
Truthfully I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy nicer food at a movie theater. Over the course of my life the fanciest food I’ve ever seen at a theater is microwaved pizza and popcorn. But this isn’t just any theater and the food was absolutely delicious!
At the end of the night I grabbed a dessert (key lime pie if you must know and yes, it was incredible) and headed home perfectly relaxed, full, entertained, and rejuvenated. I was so impressed with the entire facility as a whole, the food was amazing, the movie selection was on par with every other theater in town, and the first thing I told Nate as I walked in the door was that I knew where our next date night was going to be.
Guys, if you’re looking for a great night out I really couldn’t recommend Movie Tavern enough. It’s the real deal, with something for everyone!
Which leads me to this: one of you lucky ducks is going to win a $25 gift card to Movie Tavern! To enter just leave a comment below with the best movie you’ve seen lately. I’ll be picking the winner on Friday, March 9, at 12pm CST, and notifying the winner that afternoon. This giveaway is open to US residents only.

Ok we had such a great time the other night so I had to enter again! I hate to be redundant but seriously the best movie I have seen recently is the greatest showman. It’s just a fantastic film! 😀

I also saw Black Panther recently. Although my experience doesn’t sound as glorious as yours! I thought it was pretty good. Kept my attention and I wasn’t lost with the story line like sometimes I am when movies are connected to others. Seeing how it’s the only money I have seen recently I will have to say it’s the good movie I’ve seen recently!

Trolls! It may not be new, and it definitely wasn’t as luxurious as your experience: I was on a charter bus full of high school girls, in a very uncomfortable seat, wishing I had brought ANY food with me! But I still loved the movie and music and can’t wait til Ada is old enough to watch it with me one day!!
