Let me ask you this: what better to post on a Monday morning than a recipe that allows you to drink more coffee? That's what I thought. This really could not come at a more appropriate time if you ask me. Weekends are awesome, great, beautiful and fantastic, but for some reason this past weekend I was just a big ol' ball of stress. Why? No reason. Everything was great, our house was clean, I was caught up on freelance projects and got to spend time with my ... continue reading...
Family Friday
WHOA thank goodness it's Friday! This week has been a doozy for us around here and I'm so glad to have a weekend of rest. This past week marked the first official baby food making in our house, and so far so good. Wes is such a veggie lover that I started off with green beans and butternut squash, but I also made a little apple-banana-avocado mixture for him that he sort of liked. I don't know what it is about the fruit, but he'll eat vegetables all day long. I've also been adding ... continue reading...
Weeknight Spinach, Mushroom and Turkey Lasagna
This lasagna was made in pure we-need-something-to-eat-tonight innocence. It was unassuming and simple to make, and I honestly didn't have any intentions of blogging about it. And then I tasted it. Fireworks went off on my palate. I craved eating the entire pan after just the first bite. Nate and I didn't even talk because we were too busy devouring it. That, my friends, is how you know it's a good lasagna. And the best part? It took all of 20 minutes to ... continue reading...
The Final Insanity Review
I suppose I can't really call this a "final" review since there weren't any previous reviews, but just go with me on it. I'm a little tired due to someone deciding to cry almost literally all night long...let's just say his name starts with a "W" and rhymes with "Beston." Ahem. Anyway, let's start off with a little bullet point list just to shine a little background on this: March 8, 2012 Weston was born. As I've said before I only gained 17 pounds with my pregnancy (due in ... continue reading...
Buffalo Chicken Meatball Subs
And just like that wouldn't you know that Summer is no longer the "it" season and all things Fall are taking over my life, my thoughts, my wardrobe and my conversation choices. Fall is: The season of back-to-school supplies shopping, where even though I'm no longer in school I still stare dreamily at the backpacks and all of those pockets I could organize my life in. Newsflash Heather: your life is too big for a backpack now. The season of leaves changing. It may be a ... continue reading...
Perfect Pancake Bites Baby Shower for Picky Palate
Today is a super-special day for one of my favorite bloggers! Jenny, the genius behind Picky Palate (and I am NOT using the word genius liberally here - her blog and food are amazing!), is pregnant with a sweet little boy! And I think you guys know how much I love baby boys ;) So sweet Jenny, first of all congratulations - I am so excited to meet your sweet little boy! It really feels like just yesterday you announced that you were pregnant and now the time is almost here to welcome ... continue reading...
Pineapple Coconut Yogurt Cake
I kinda have a thing for craving foods that make me dream of island vacations. Part of me thinks it must be some form of self-torture to make things that will only make me think of sand, sun and crashing waves when I live smack-dab in the middle of the United States, next to mountains that are ridiculously dry and no ocean in sight. I mean, that's crazy right? My island state of mind, though, is highly improved when I eat things containing tropical fruit and ... continue reading...
Sweet Garlic Chili Shrimp with Rice Noodles
Asian food scares me. Not so much to eat because let's face it - that umami thing? I'm sold. 100% L-O-V-E it. Of all the flavors in flavortown, umami anything is going to win me over anytime. No, I'm talking scary to MAKE because as delicious as Asian food actually is, I've found that it's super easy to mess up. Yep, I'm talking about a lil' thing called "too much soy sauce" or maybe "too much ginger" or maybe even (Lord help us) "I forgot the garlic." There are so many ... continue reading...
Golden Raisin Cinnamon Swirl Bread
There are few things in life that are truly better than fresh-baked bread and butter. I mean, of course there are the obvious: God, love, family, friends, health, happiness. Those are all really good - nay, really awesome - things. But fresh bread & butter? Come on - if you don't admit it's awesome then I just don't know if we can be friends anymore. Kidding, I still love you, but there may be trust issues. Just sayin'... Sooooo...who's ready ... continue reading...
BBQ Ranch Jalapeno Chicken Burgers
Chicken burgers. It's what (was) for dinner. Mmmmmk but for real though...this was dinner last night. See, I'd say that about 98% of the stuff on the blog I actually make specifically for the blog. Not that I wouldn't bake like a crazy cafeteria lady on a regular basis anyway, but a lot of the time I make specific things just to try something new and share. But this? This was real life, and it happened last night. In our backyard. Using the last of the propane in our grill's tank. ... continue reading...
Walnut Vanilla Bean Shortbread
Oh y'all. I don't know if I can admit this...but I must. Here goes. I...bought...vanilla...bean...paste...from...HomeGoods. I did. I looked at the stuff in Williams-Sonoma and decided that I just wasn't willing to fork out 10-20 bones for the same stuff I saw at HomeGoods. Call me cheap, but the paste is goooooOOOOOoooood. I'll say this though: expensive vanilla bean paste or not, this shortbread is phen-O-menal. Talk about wanting something to eat with ... continue reading...
A to Z Joy
Yesterday was a day. For no reason whatsoever I was just having a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day. Everything was wrong and I couldn't do anything right. I sat around pretending to be happy while Wes was awake and playing, but when he napped I just sat and cried. For no reason. It was just a day. And then I read this post from Julie (even though at first I fought it because at that point I just felt like being in a bad mood) and realized that - HEY! - ... continue reading...
