I am Pregnant, I am Beautiful

There are a lot of things that I could nit-pick about this picture and say that my outfit is crappy, I'm smiling weird, iPhone photos are awkward, or I just look funny. But the reality is that there is a little baby boy growing in my belly and I could care less about the outfit, the smile, the iPhone photo or even looking funny.  I don't need that baby to make me beautiful, but I definitely feel beautiful with him in there!  21 weeks and I don't really recognize my body when I look in the ... continue reading...

Breeseos

Say WHAT?! Get ready to have your mind blown.  Seriously.  These aren't made by combining chopped chocolate and cream and other fantastical ingredients.  No, my friends, these are made with brownie mix and Oreo cookies and miniature Reeses cups.  They are made with lots of sugar and lots of love.  And as stated before, they will blow your mind.   I made these two different ways and took the lazy way (i.e. pan instead of individual brownies) to work.  Like a good blogger I admitted ... continue reading...

Slow Cooked Chicken Fajitas

I told you guys I was becoming re-obsessed with my crock pot. Not to mention re-obsessed with fajitas, but that's one obsession that will never leave.  There's just something about the smoky delicious meat and caramelized veggies + salsa, guac and sour cream that just does it for me.  Not only that but the tortilla?  Yes. Please.  I could eat tortillas for every single meal and not even think twice. P.S. Yes the photo above depicts raw chicken.  I'm never a fan of showing raw meat on the ... continue reading...

Super Happy Terrified

Don't you guys just love the look Bunker is giving me here?  He is seriously the biggest mess ever, and I'm totally wrapped around his human-hand-sized paw.  Cute little guy :) First of all, thank you so much for all of y'alls encouragement.  I tried to downplay the panic attack the other day, but I've still been feeling it.  It's weird though - a big mixture of overjoyed-excited and panic-stricken, but all in the best way possible.  If there's anything to panic about in a good way I'd say ... continue reading...

Pear, Chocolate and Red Wine Hand Pies

Remember a few weeks ago when I waxed poetic about poached pears and chocolate sauce? Yeah, those were good.  Like outstandingly good.  Life-altering globe-changing world-peace-inducing kind of good.   Yes, I said it:  poached pears and chocolate sauce might just be the catalyst we need for world peace.  Take that Miss America!  (OK to be fair I kind of adore the Miss America pageant...)   That being said I couldn't just let my next batch of juicy perfect pairs off ... continue reading...

Bacon, Leek and Broccoli Quiche

I've always loved quiche despite the fact that I still think it's spelled funny. Story #1:  I hate when things are spelled differently than they should be.  Although I shop there all the time, I really cringe every time I drive up to King Soopers here in Colorado.  In fact when we first came out and visited to see if we wanted to live here I seriously debated whether or not I could shop there, even though it's part of the Kroger chain.  Like I said, I still cringe to this very ... continue reading...

Random Baby Thoughts and a Panic Attack

Hello friends!  So first off I want to say WELCOME to the new The Dish page.  This is where I'm going to be recording my random thoughts about pregnancy and motherhood, photography, and just life in general.  A big thanks to Julie from Savvy Julie for her awesome work on making this page possible...thanks Julie!  If y'all have any blogging needs I highly recommend working with her :) Today I feel the need to share some random thoughts with you guys about pregnancy.  I have to say it's been a ... continue reading...

Shredded Brussells Sprouts with Shallots and Roasted Butternut Squash

If the title weren't so long I'd make sure to throw the word 'salad' in there too.  You know, for the health-conscious. That's not to say that it's not healthy at all though.  In fact this may just be one of the healthier things I made this weekend!  But really, who's counting?   You see, I'm a creature of habit.  When I like something, I like it a lot and probably won't stray to make something new for a very long time, if ever.  So the fact that I gave up my beloved ... continue reading...

Mom’s Perfect Cornbread Dressing

Does anyone know why stores don't sell celery by the stalk?  Or better yet, if they do, why I cannot find it anywhere? I think that this situation might be akin to why I don't love bananas (as in I ate them WAY too much as a kid), but I can't stand celery.  I used to eat it daily with peanut butter as a snack and loved it.  Then one day?  No more please.  I don't love the crunch, I don't love the flavor raw, and I definitely don't love how fibrous it is.  If I'm buying celery it's pretty much ... continue reading...

The Best Thanksgiving Turkey Breast

I remember our first Thanksgiving together. Well, let's just set the stage:  we were engaged, not married, we had an apartment we were both paying for, but we weren't living together.  We both had to work at Starbucks all day Thanksgiving day (actually we chose to so we could get some extra cash for the honeymoon) and then the plan was to make a quick Thanksgiving meal, watch a Christmas movie on TV and then likely I would pass out on the couch while Nate drove home.   Sounds like ... continue reading...

It’s a…

Well before I get too far into this post I have to share my little celebratory mini-carrot cake.  See I had BIG PLANS to do a gender reveal shindig and make a big fat cake with layers of blue or pink frosting.  Yeah.  Then I realized it's the middle of the week and I'm exhausted (see also:  pregnant).  A gender reveal is fun, but y'all?  Just not happening this time around. Although I suppose this is a gender reveal party of sorts, right?  Right!   Anyway, the most important thing ... continue reading...

Creamy Crockpot Pork Green Chili

Sometimes I like to play pretend. I like to pretend that I hate green chiles.  I like to pretend that I don't care if places out here claim to have the best green chili on the planet.  And most of the time it's not totally pretending.  I mean, I'm from Texas and even with this delicious and fast recipe I will still take a bowl of fantastic traditional red chili any day.  I like to pretend it's embedded in my soul.   And it kind of is. But I can't harbor bad feelings towards ... continue reading...
