I know it sounds weird but go with me on this recipe. When I told Nate what I was making it was originally going to be peach butter. You guys know how I feel about apple butter and I love the taste of fresh peaches with spice. Stands to reason that peach butter should be just as good, right? Guess Nate didn't agree...but keep in mind that this is past tense now... Y'all want to know a secret? I made dinner rolls specifically for this recipe. It was a cold, dreary, wonderfully fall day ... continue reading...
Tomorrow
Tomorrow we'll get to see our baby again. Tomorrow we'll get to hear the heartbeat. Tomorrow we'll get to see the little one in detail, from its finger to its toes. Tomorrow we'll learn if everything is developing correctly and what to expect next in this pregnancy. Tomorrow I'll be getting a flu shot (blech - but I'd have 100 flu shots to keep this baby safe!) Tomorrow we will *hopefully* find out if this sweet baby is a boy or a ... continue reading...
Crockpot Holiday Cranberry Sauce
First and foremost, I'd LOVE it if you clicked over to the Shape Magazine Best Blogger Awards and voted for Faces of Beauty! I'm so excited to be nominated and would love the chance to share the message of Faces of Beauty with even more of the world! I don't know about you guys, but I have a really hard time planning out the cooking schedule for holiday meals. Now let's backtrack a bit - why on earth am I making holiday meals right now? Why, in the early-middle of October, ... continue reading...

Good morning all! I am so excited and honored to announce that Faces of Beauty has been nominated to Shape Magazine's Best Blogger Awards! The Big Fat First Trimester Post
I'm going to be honest here: I had planned out a bunch of posts to talk about my first trimester, chat about workouts and food, give you "remedies" for morning sickness (which, sadly, I found none) and talk about how my husband has been so incredibly supportive and loving this whole time we've been pregnant. But every time I sat down to write though the words would just not come! And so, in the interest of catching y'all fully up to where we are today, here are my (lengthy) bullet points on ... continue reading...
Kitchen Play: Halloween Cupcakes
I know that when I say this, it will show that I am very much a part of the minority, but I don’t love Halloween. All of that changed when I was approached about doing a Kitchen Play assignment involving Halloween decorating ideas. I’ve always wanted to increase my food-decorating repertoire and knew this would be a fun way to do it. And deep down, I knew it would reconnect me with the kid who used to love Halloween. I’m sure you’re familiar with McCormick – leaders in fabulous herbs and ... continue reading...
Apple & Bacon Stuffed Acorn Squash
"This tastes like fall," he said as he scooped more out off of his plate. Folks, that's what acorn squash filled to the brim - and then some - with finely chopped apples, carrots, bacon, and maple syrup will do to a man. Now Nate likes veggies...I'm actually really lucky that he loves the variety of food that he does because I think I might go nuts if he didn't. But he will always try out the things that I make and give me honest feedback on his thoughts. I got a good one ... continue reading...
Morning Sickness
Morning sickness. No one looks forward to it, although it seems that for a lot of women (definitely not all though - lucky!) it's a sign of pregnancy. For me it was almost welcomed in a weird way...it meant that something was happening with my body. I wasn't going crazy...I was actually repulsed by food and anything that smelled like cooking. Without going into too much detail, morning sickness for me was weird. It was most of the time feeling completely nauseated without ever actually ... continue reading...
Texas Chocolate Cake
This weekend I celebrated my Texan-ness in two very big ways. Friday night I went to a Pat Green concert. Now, if you've never been to Texas (or, shall I say, never gone to college in Texas) it's not very likely that you know about Texas Country. Yes, there is such a thing and yes, it's distinctly Texan. When I was in college I felt the need to revolt again all things fraternity/sorority including the music "they" listened too. Well, I just have to say that God has funny plans. I married ... continue reading...
Ultimate Cauliflower Gratin
I love vegetables. See, I love to eat a lot of them plain or roasted or just tossed upon a light salad. But others I love when their flavors are forced to reach new heights in decadent dishes that make the house smell of bubbling deliciousness. Is that too descriptive? One might think so...until one tries to make this cauliflower gratin. Then one might be changing one's mind! Let me paint a picture for you: little Heather, growing up in West Texas, sitting at her dinner ... continue reading...

Bourbon-Soaked Apricot, Almond, and White Chocolate Shortbread Cookies
It's Friday and I think you should treat yourself. I mean, nothing like a couple (dozen) cookies to get the weekend started right...especially when said cookies contain dried fruit and nuts soaked in bourbon. Oh yes. It's like a work-legal happy hour! These cookies stemmed from the need to use up some ingredients in our pantry and I have to say that this is one of the best ones I've ever made. Perfect with coffee, tea, or just on their own. Me? I prefer mine for breakfast, ... continue reading...
