Morning Sickness

Morning sickness.  No one looks forward to it, although it seems that for a lot of women (definitely not all though – lucky!) it’s a sign of pregnancy.  For me it was almost welcomed in a weird way…it meant that something was happening with my body.  I wasn’t going crazy…I was actually repulsed by food and anything that smelled like cooking.

Without going into too much detail, morning sickness for me was weird.  It was most of the time feeling completely nauseated without ever actually getting sick.  It meant that food and food smells made me gag, as well as most things that had a smell to them too.  The thought of mint gum (one of my favorite things) and my own deodorant made me queasy.  My doctor and mom both said to eat every 2 hours to help keep my blood sugar up and calm the morning sickness…but I wasn’t hungry every 2 hours.  It got to the point that I would start crying because I didn’t want to eat anymore…and those are thoughts and words I never thought I’d say.  But it’s true – I was SO tired of food.  And the only thing that sounded good for breakfast, lunch and dinner were burritos from Chipotle.  Poor Nate!  He’s not a fan of Chipotle, but he bravely ate there for almost 2 solid weeks because it’s what I needed.  All I have to say is thank goodness for chicken burritos…thank goodness.

Morning sickness for me lasted from around week 7 to week 13, which I’m happy to say is not as long as I was afraid it would be.  But don’t you guys worry – the appetite is back in full swing!  I love food again, love the smell of it, and get excited about cooking in the kitchen.  Although I have to say – those of you who are moms who have more than one kiddo and have had to deal with morning sickness in both pregnancies?  Yeah.  You guys are brave.  Very, very, very brave…

Morning sickness was a welcomed thing for me after losing a baby. I loved that I was sick, it meant to me that this baby would make it, and he did. Deven from Heaven we call him;-)

My Mom was sick with all of us, and whenever my sister wasn’t sick with pregnancy she miscarried the baby…so that’s GOOD news when you’re sick (in our family, anyway).

    CONGRATS! That’s SO neat!

I was the same way Heather — had no interest in food. Luckily it only lasted about 3 weeks (week 10 was my turn around week). I did lose weight during that time, but everything is still okay!

Whoops, I hit enter too quickly!
Anyway I would feel sick to my stomach for most of the day, and ESPECIALLY when I smelled anything. When I walked to work, I passed food courts in the skyway system downtown, and the cooking food smells would make me gag. Don’t even get me started on brushing my teeth – that was a daily struggle! I finally went to the doctor and found out it was the inner ear infection. But it was after two weeks of discomfort. So I feel for ya – glad to hear you are over the morning sickness!

Your description of morning sickness sounds exactly like my experience with an inner ear infection last winter. I had never had one, so I didn’t realize how an ear infection like that would contribute to such extreme nausea and

I’ll tell ya what….how about morning sickness while having to change a toddler’s diaper? Oh.My.Goodness. Gag city. Unfortunately I’m still there, being only 11 weeks pregnant. I can’t wait till it ends. I’m totally sick of food.

I was thinking about the same thing– my sickness wasn’t bad (never got sick, just felt pretty queasy for a few weeks)– but even so, it would have been pretty bad if I had another kiddo to take care of!!! I’m increasingly impressed with people who have more than one kid– pregnancy is so exhausting!

Aww yay I’m so happy for you!! My morning sickness was exactly the same- I kept saying I had no interest in food, which I could’ve sworn you’d never, ever hear from my mouth! Mine lasted until 16 or 17 weeks, but keeps rearing it’s ugly head even now. I can’t wait to hear more about your pregnancy!

awww first of all, congratulations Heather! Ahhh what an exciting moment in your life. 😀 And this is really weird!! But my professor said that morning sickness is actually good for the baby (dreadful for the mom of course), because it’s a sign that the baby is healthy! Kind of hard to believe, but I did take her word for it–as my friend had the most terrrible nausea all the time, and her baby is super healthy! 🙂 God bless you and stay strong and joyful~
