The View From Up Here

Looks like someone's belly went POP! For weeks and weeks I was so sad that my belly wasn't getting bigger.  I felt like I just looked dumpy and out of shape, and even though I LOVE the reason I look that way, I just can't help but want other people to see that I'm pregnant too.   Well y'all, now there's no mistaking it.  Baby Boy is long and skinny and gaining weight rapidly and leaving his mama with a Big Ol' Belly (my BOB), a weird center of gravity and a sore back.  And there's ... continue reading...

Hearty Italian Stew

The real name for this original dish is actually "Long Island Minestrone" but, well, I just couldn't leave good enough alone. And you may be asking me, "Why Long Island?"   Wanna know the answer?   I don't know.  That's helpful, right? See what happened was my parents, many moons ago, found some pretty stellar recipes in old magazines that my Mimi used to get and then made them once or twice a month as dinners.  This was one of those dinners.  Served with cornbread ... continue reading...

Cinnamon Sugar Pecan Knots with Orange Glaze

A few weeks ago I become extremely obsessed with the pecan braids at Panera Bread. When I say obsessed I mean obsessed.  To the point that I would be dreaming about them at work and catch myself before I drooled everywhere.  To the point where I would drive by a Panera Bread and stare longingly at the storefront rather than the road (the truth is scary sometimes).  To the point that I ordered one, or so I thought, and then got to my car only to find out that I accidentally ordered a pecan bun ... continue reading...

Love Grown Giveaway!

You may or may not have noticed the big ol' Love Grown button on my sidebar lately.  I'm lucky enough to be one of their Love bloggers, which means I'm also lucky enough to receive a hefty amount of their amazing granola several times a year.  But y'all?  I don't want to keep it all in - it's time to spread the love!   If you haven't ever read my reviews on Love Grown before, just know this:  this is the best granola that I have ever had.  It's addicting (I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Raisin ... continue reading...

Deep-Dish Cranberry Apple Pie

Let's talk about pie. Or not.  Are you in the mood to talk about pie?  Because I'm just not feeling it today.   What I AM feeling is this: I can feel the baby moving...like externally.  I felt a big kick this morning while I was wrestling with my pregnancy-induced carpel tunnel syndrome and then I felt big tears spring to my eyes. Speaking of carpel tunnel, what I'm NOT feeling is my fingers.  What I am feeling is frustrated and super annoyed that I dread going to sleep at ... continue reading...

The Ultimate Thanksgiving Turkey

'Twas but 3 years ago that I made a whole turkey for the first time.  And even then, as I did this year, I left the giblets in on accident. I mean really, who can every find the giblets anyway?!  I promised I searched high and low for them and found nary a giblet bag to remove, so I just figured it was one of those giblet-free turkeys (just go with me on this) and called it a day.   Come carving time the turkey told me a different story and Nate made sure to ask me if this wasn't ... continue reading...

A Few Notes at 24 Weeks

OK so I lied - this photo was taken yesterday when I was technically only 23 weeks and 6 days.  It happens. I have to admit, I have so many thoughts running through my head these days it's hard to keep track.  Lists are kind of the best way to keep it all straight!  So bear with me while I make a million lists about pregnancy: I understand that everyone has concern over different books and different techniques of raising a newborn, but I did start reading On Becoming Babywise and I have ... continue reading...

Nutty Chocolate Pie

You guys know that mom always makes it best, right? I remember growing up and absolutely loathing pecans.  Walnuts.  Almonds.  Hazelnuts.  I didn't like the texture, the flavor, or that nutty dry-mouth feeling that you get after eating a raw one.  But I DO know that when it came to eating Mom's pecan pie that she made at Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and my dad's birthday - that was a treat!   It's not until many years later that I realized that toasting is what brings out ... continue reading...

Simple Baked Risotto with Mozzarella

'Twas but a few years ago that my friend Emma taught me to make risotto and I felt like the fanciest person in the world. And now?  Well, I still like making it - risotto is the definition of technique and artistry in cooking if you ask me - but on a normal day I just plain don't have time to make it.  There's a lot of stirring and sweating behind the stove and the fact that I'm making other things too.  And honestly I can't drink wine while doing that right now which makes it kind of hard to ... continue reading...

The Big Fat San Francisco Post

Once upon this past weekend I flew to San Francisco for the Foodbuzz Conference and to hang out with some of the most wonderful friends that I've met through blogging. It all started early Friday morning when I got up at 5:30, ran around the house in panic mode for 30 minutes, and then left my sweet husband and my two adorable pups behind to battle the toll road, off-site parking, freezing cold temperatures and buses that come with traveling through Denver International Airport.  Oh, and the ... continue reading...

A Story

Let me tell you a story:  Yesterday in the shower I was trying to shave my legs standing up, which is no easy feat when you have a pregnant belly to contend with.  I had already torn through my entire closet, claiming that there was nothing to wear and I should probably just skip work.  I rubbed in copious amounts of cocoa butter lotion, which I have to admit I've started to despise the scent of, despite the fact that it keeps my skin from itching and I'm hoping that it minimizes the number of ... continue reading...

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake for Two

I think we all know what this first picture means: If you guessed that, in addition to the title, this dish contains pumpkin in it?  You're right!  See, I like to make things nice and easy on Fridays...no trick questions here!  Especially not when I bidding my handsome, amazing and wonderful husband a see-you-on-Sunday at 5:30AM to head to the airport.  Yeah, we're going to keep things simple here for now. You'll rarely hear me say this, but there are problems that come with being a food ... continue reading...
