The Dish

Baja Chicken Napoleon and Cheesy Baked Potato Chips

This is the kind of recipe combo that reminds me of sweet Sundays after church in the Spring. We'd get home, all go change into play clothes, and open all the windows to let the sunshine pour in. It was always just a TAD chilly before the sun started to warm the house, and we'd all sit down and have a lunch of sandwiches and chips (well, the times that we didn't have an amazing pot roast).  Both recipes are super simple and so yummy! This Baja chicken Napoleon is such a fun take on a chicken ... continue reading...

Story’s Day

This is me (in the middle), two years ago when I was pregnant with Story. I was blissfully unaware of the fate that would befall that sweet and beautiful little baby - I had no idea that I would shortly after be mourning the loss of that sweet life. Two years ago today was what I am now going to be calling Story's birthday. When our baby's real birthday should have been around September 9 it ended up being February 23. For so long I've seen this date as the day my baby died, but I am now ... continue reading...

Sriracha and Brown Sugar Almonds

Sriracha and Brown Sugar Almonds || Heather's Dish

I feel like I may - just maybe - use the word "addiction" a little too much.  To the point that should I do or eat or say or watch anything two times in a row, well HOLDTHEPHONE, it's got to be an addiction. SIDE NOTE: I just looked up the true definition for the word "addiction" and basically found out it only has to do with negative things like drugs and life-destroying things.  To which I have to admit that my whole entire post is now going to just sound silly.  I digress. Anyway. Let's ... continue reading...

Velvety Roasted Potato Soup {Vegan}

Roasted Garlic and Potato Soup || Heather's Dish

As I write this I'm literally in total fear that we are going to have yet another power outage. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving living in Arkansas.  I like the weather and the fact that the winters don't make my skin want to boycott the rest of my body due to the dryness.  Really, I love it. But. The power outages are suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a pain even though I have to admit I'm thankful at times for the interruption.  So I'm praying, very selfishly, for the freezing rain and drizzle and ... continue reading...

Being His Cheerleader

Baby + Guitar

Some of you may not be my friend after I say this, but I've never been a fan of cheerleaders.  It's not the specific PEOPLE that I'm not a fan of, but rather the fact that I grew up playing volleyball and basketball and I happen to be kind of petty at times.  Trust me, it's true.  I hope you guys still love me.  I promise I'm not that silly anymore!   Here's the thing that I've found lately though:  I am a huge cheerleader for my son.  Every little thing he does, every milestone that ... continue reading...

Weeknight Braised Red Cabbage

Weeknight Braised Red Cabbage || Heather's Dish

WARNING:  If you don't like cabbage, then I can't promise you'll love this dish.  You know, seeing as how it's all cabbage.  I still think you should try it though - you never know if you'll fall in love! BUT!  If you are a cabbage lover, you will adore this!  One thing I really like about cabbage is that besides being good for you, it's an inexpensive way to get a really yummy side dish on the table really any time.  I love it a lot of ways - roasted with dijon or braised in butter - and this ... continue reading...

February Travel: A Trip to Pine Bluff, Arkansas

The Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff, Arkansas

A few weeks ago Nate and I took an adventure.  An adventure to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. If you're not familiar with the area, suffice to say that Pine Bluff has a bit of a reputation for being a rough area of the state, but at the time we didn't realize that.  Regardless, we went and ended up having a really great time and making a ton of memories!  Which is what travel is all about, and a big reason we are working really hard on our little Travel Project! If I'm being honest here I was way ... continue reading...

Garlicky Mustard Wings and Icebox Cake

Y'all.  These are husband-pleasing recipes.  (Who am I kidding, these are everyone-pleasing recipes!)  Super simple, lots of flavor, and almost zero work.  I'll take it! Garlicky mustard wings are so delicious, and I would recommend drinking the sauce with a straw.  For real. I already went here last month, but I'm not kidding - y'all have to make this.  Icebox cakes are kind of my new favorite thing - a little tiny bit of mixing, layering, and then it makes itself in the fridge ... continue reading...

Life is Short. Choose Love.

Life is Short. Choose LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:13

Happy Valentine's Day my beautiful friends :)  I hope you guys have something fun planned with someone[s] you love, and I hope that you are able to build amazing memories for years to come! This weekend we are going to be celebrating the incredibly inspiring life of my Grandma who passed away a few days ago.  While I am incredibly sad that she's gone, I am truly so thankful for her in every way possible. I remember a time not long ago when we would play Uno together, where she taught me how ... continue reading...

The Ultimate Banana Snack Cake

The Ultimate Banana Snack Cake || Heather's Dish

Wes has decided that, yes, in fact he really only does like cheese.  Cheese and water.  So what used to be a diet rich in fresh produce has slowly eeked away, even to the point of throwing bananas and all banana products on the floor. The dogs are happy about it.  Mom, not so much. Although I guess I can't really blame him - I'm not a big raw banana fan myself, but honestly it was one of the few things he would eat.  But that was once upon a time...last week. It really shouldn't be a ... continue reading...

Chocolate-coated Ritz Crack - the most addictive candy yet! On HeathersDish.com

Newsflash: this is a food blog.  Which basically translates to me raving about the food I've made all. the. time.  I know that it's kind of my job to tell you guys that OHEMGEETHISISSOGOOD and YOUHAVETOMAKETHISRIGHTNOW. But y'all?  You really really really need to make this.  Like, yesterday. This weekend I was staring blankly into the pantry at a box of Ritz crackers.  I don't remember why they were there - but there they stood, in all of their buttery crunchy glory.  I remembered a recipe ... continue reading...
