I remember the first time I ever had Brie. We were living in Colorado at the time and decided to go on a double date with some new friends to a local cheese shop. We loaded up on wedges of various cheeses, crackers, fruit, salami, and wine and then headed back home to dig in. Most of the cheese we got I had tried before, but my friend Emma declared that we would be making Brie en croute. I was excited. And a little scared. Little did I know that I would soon be digging into, as the movie ... continue reading...
Chocolate Sweet Potato Truffles
What if I told you that you could have all the flavor of a rich, fudgy, decadent chocolate truffle, but it actually housed some decent nutrition, too? I think we’d all line up to get a piece of that. Right? The good news is a truffle like that actually exists. And you can easily make it within the walls of your kitchen. The magic behind this gem is none other than the sweet potato. This versatile southern staple has tons of beta-carotene, vitamin A and fiber to name just a few of its ... continue reading...

[beautiful West Texas sunset photo via] THE WEEKEND!!! Oh my word, I thought this day would never come. We've had a week with more sickness, injuries, and all the stuff that comes with having kids PLUS I've just been feeling really heavy and burdened with the hard things we'll be explaining to our kids in the coming years. I may be skipping ahead too much, but this world is a scary place, and I want my boys to be part of the change. That means explaining the bad and working through it ... continue reading...
The Most Magical Breakfast Cookie
You guys, I won't lie to you - I've been downing these cookies for more than just breakfast for almost a week now. The fact is that they are seriously delicious, but also pretty healthy too. Granted, there are no veggies to boast in, no fresh fruit to proudly show off, but friends? There's chocolate. And I really don't think there needs to be any more explaining. See, the magic of these cookies is that they taste amazing, and the texture is OUTSTANDING. It's like a flaky layered ... continue reading...
Story’s Fifth Day: 5 Years of Hope After Miscarriage
I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to title this post. It should be simple; today is Story's 5th birthday. Five years ago, after a long and sleepless night, we drove to the hospital to confirm our first baby had no heartbeat. It was confirmed, and that precious baby was removed from my body via D&C. We never really knew the gender, although most of me thinks it was a boy. We named the baby Story because it's life was the beginning of a greater story we never would have chosen ... continue reading...
11 Months Old!
I'm just shaking my head. 11 months has flown by at a speed much faster than I ever thought possible, and my head is just spinning. I remember this time last year, just how deeply uncomfortable I was, waddling everywhere, and breathing like I had just run a marathon when I had only walked about 10 feet. All of that seems so far away, but the birth of this sweet baby? Seems like it was just yesterday. Granted he's not a year old yet, so I won't fast forward time anymore than I ... continue reading...

[image from The EveryGirl - these brunches sound amazing!] Ugh. Guys, I have no words for this week. It hasn't been the worst, but I have just never experienced this amount of sickness in my life! It's just like a crazy little carousel that we're on - if mom and dad aren't sick, the boys are, and then it goes back around to mom and dad. Barely keeping my head above water with it all, and yet I just am so happy and thankful that I even have a chance to live this life. The snuggles and ... continue reading...
Poblano Rice & Beans with Shredded Fajita Chicken
Land sakes, y'all. Isn't it always just how things go when you get all motivated to be organized and clean and get things done, then you (or your kids or both) go and get sick. That's life, right? So this past weekend A had a fever virus that we were told just had to run its course. While it meant a LOT of sweet snuggles for mom, I just felt so bad for him. He tried so hard to be happy but he just felt so icky :( It also meant that I slept on our guest bed, which is super soft and ... continue reading...
Hula Pie for Galentine’s Day
Happy Galentine's Day everyone!!! See here's the thing: I don't post on Saturdays unless there's something important going on. It's weekend time - time for resting and time away from the computer. But today is indeed a special day - it's Galentine's Day! A day to celebrate the women you love. The women who inspire you and push you to be better. The women who speak truth into your life, who lift you up, who make you better. We all need those women in our lives, and ... continue reading...

[via] FRIENDS!!! We made it again - Friday's here! I'll tell you what I'm doing today: laundry (you know, so we have clothes to wear this weekend), navigating the bottle-to-sippy cup situation we're currently in (suggestions?), working out, showering, eating pizza, drinking wine. Yes, in that almost exact order - you're welcome for the play-by-play :) Seriously though, it's going to be a pretty killer Friday. Relaxing, not too busy, and pretty warm so we'll intersperse ... continue reading...
Healthy Creamy Broccoli Soup
MOOOOOOOOLAAAAAAAAARSSSSSSS. The enemy of every Mother of Young Children. Second only to canine incisors in their toothy fierceness. Bringers of weird-smelling poo, slight fevers, drool that rivals Niagara Falls, major fussiness, and overall unhappiness for both mom and baby (and anyone else who's around). In case you couldn't tell, that's the stage we're in right now, and those little buggers in my baby's mouth are making that sweet little guy miserable. This kid has ... continue reading...
Processing the Big Things
My brain hurts. This past weekend I attended the IF : Gathering here in Little Rock, which was something I'd been looking forward to for a full year. Last year I had such a great experience, and I knew that there would be good things happening again this year as well. See, I have this habit of manipulating God's word, both in the Bible and through the inspired teaching of others, to fit perfectly into what my current wants and needs are. It's easy to view my desires as ... continue reading...
