These days I have an overabundance of two things in my fridge: pecans and bacon. My parents grew up around pecan trees, and although they don't have any on their property there are a LOT of people in the neighborhood who have them but don't want to take the time to pick them off the ground in their yards. The entire fall this past year my parents would pick up 2 grocery bags worth of pecans on their run in the mornings...and wound up with 200 pounds of pecans. That means extra for me, and ... continue reading...

Triple Threat Beans
Beans, beans, they're good for the heart. The more you eat the more you... ;) I just had to get it out there, but I'll spare you all of the other goofy beans-lead-to-farting jokes I've been privy to. For those of you who are foodies you'll totally get this next statement. I have been wondering for weeks - WEEKS! - how in the world one would make baked beans from scratch. What sort of beans would you use? Do you actually have to bake them? What spices would be good? Could I make them in a ... continue reading...

Banana Bread Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Hi, my name is Heather. I have a problem. A problem with buying too many bananas. I have such big dreams of smoothies and banana ice cream, but when it comes down to it I just get too lazy and then panic as they start to turn black on my counter. And y'all, black bananas will not an awesome smoothie make. So what happens to these poor, tired, overripe bananas after they've endured too many days in our fruit/veggie bowl? It's called baking. And it is these bananas' savior. There are so ... continue reading...

Balsamic-Roasted Butternut Farro
Who knew that ancient grains could be so amazing? When it comes to making side dishes I usually like to stick with a side salad or some kind of pasta dish, but I have to tell you: farro is rocking my world. I would eat it every.single.day. and never tire of it! Throw in my favorite roasted vegetables, a little oil and cheese and you've got yourself a winning side dish. Or, if you're me, main dish with a slice of pork loin on the side. It's the roasted butternut-onion combo. Just gets me ... continue reading...
Kona
Right out of college I went to work for Starbucks in their management training program, and ever since have had a slight obsession with all things coffee. I would even venture to say that I'm a coffee snob, except that if I need caffeine I'm willing to drink gas station and McDonald's coffee too. But when I want the good stuff, I turn to this: 100% Kona coffee. Is Starbucks' the best? Nope - for that you need to try Badass Coffee out of Hawaii. But for now I'll sit back with my ... continue reading...

Bailey’s Brownies with Irish Coffee Buttercream
I have a confession to make: the brownies you see on this screen do not actually contain Bailey's Irish Cream. They contain a cheap knock-off because I wasn't about to shell out $20 for a bottle of the real stuff. I know this makes me sound cheap, but let's get serious: I'd rather spend that money on good food, good wine, or good beer. Besides, the brownies won't know the difference...and neither will you once you take a bite! I struggled figuring out what to call this dish, but ... continue reading...

Green Chile Sour Cream Enchiladas
Growing up my sister and I were what I would consider now to be fairly picky eaters with some veggies and weird textures. But there was one thing that we would always eat: Mom's green chile sour cream enchiladas. It was our picky eater kryptonite. I guess I never realized how simple it was to make this meal until two days ago when my mom made it for dinner. She made two huge pans of it and I'm proud to say we still have enough for lunch today! I could eat an entire pan by myself in one ... continue reading...
