Start Somewhere: Let’s Talk Motivation & Encouragement

#hdstartsomewhere

It's everywhere: the dreaded 'body after baby' stories, breakthroughs, ideas on how a woman's body should perform after having a baby (or babies), opinions on how we should look. We're constantly bombarded with the "should's" aren't we? Our body should be this size, our bellies should be flat, our legs should have a space between them at all times, our arms should be tanned and toned, our collarbones should stick out - but not too much because you don't want to look TOO skinny. And all no later ... continue reading...

dried flowers as wedding decor

Hello Friday! I have to say this week has FLOWN by. No idea where the time went, but I'm really excited to spend some quality time with my guys this weekend. I don't know about you guys, but I'm totally dreaming of long road trips and crazy family adventures. We don't have anything planned at all, but if given the opportunity to hit the road and go somewhere cool? I'm there. We're there. And all of our crazy too!   OH! And in totally random news? I bought a mini trampoline. I bought ... continue reading...

Ultra Creamy Coconut Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Ultra Creamy Coconut Vanilla Bean Ice Cream || @heathersdish

GAH! Another ice cream post...I promise, y'all, I'm just getting it out of my system. I really am. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying the whole "getting it out of my system" process!   I love this ice cream so much that I'm in the process of making another batch right this very instant. It's so super creamy, just the right amount of sweet, and has the tiniest hint of coconut flavor going for it. We topped ours almost every night with some homemade magic shell, which was ... continue reading...

Buttery Brown Sugar Ice Cream with Roasted Cherries

Buttery Brown Sugar Ice Cream with Roasted Cherries || HeathersDish.com

Don't you like how I followed up a post about living healthfully with a post about ice cream? As much as I'd like to blame that one on balance, it's really more about how we're living it up/finishing up non-Whole30 approved food in our house before we actually start a Whole30 challenge in August.   And this ice cream? It's sooooooooo not Whole30 approved.   I've been reading It Starts With Food and can honestly say that I'm STOKED about doing this challenge with Nate (and ... continue reading...

Start Somewhere: A Postpartum Health Series

start somewhere: a postpartum health series

GOOD MORNING! Y'all, I've had such an overwhelmingly awesome response to my initial thoughts to do a postpartum health series. Admittedly I'm a little nervous to jump into the healthy living sphere a little bit again, but if there's anything I can do to encourage just one mom out there with my own story? It's worth it. So let's jump in!   First off, I want to be really up front with something: this isn't going to go super in depth into the postpartum mental health. I've had my share ... continue reading...

Oh this week. So much good, so many lessons, so many giggles, so much sunshine. I'd say it was 75% awesome, 25% incredibly hard, but 100% beautiful and life-giving. I'm excited about the weekend to really rest and re-energize, spend time with friends, work on creating, and getting ready for the beginning of my series on postpartum health. It's going to be really fun and I'm honestly so excited about sharing what's working, what's not, and having the accountability of sharing that part of my ... continue reading...

Asian Quinoa Edamame Salad

Asian Quinoa Edamame Salad || @heathersdish

Some weeks I have my stuff together, and some weeks I'm flying by the seat of my pants every single day.   This week? This week is so much of the latter that it's silly.   We're talking eating up our pantry staples (which, you know, is why we have them), hauling two kiddos to the store every day (OY), and making dinner a big fat surprise every night. I have a super fancy and fantastic grocery list sitting right next to me on our kitchen counter, but every time I've thought ... continue reading...

Crazy Good-for-You Blueberry Crisp

Crazy Good-for-You Blueberry Crisp

So I'm sure you're wondering what the heck I'm doing showing you a photo of a mostly-eaten blueberry crisp. It's so far out of the bounds of normal food blogging these days...but y'all? This doesn't have a stupid-long recipe title with a laundry list of ingredients because THIS is something that I would actually make in real life. And have. A lot.   I'm all for amazing recipes, and my fantastic co-workers (other bloggers) work really hard to make incredible food and provide ... continue reading...

Postpartum Health: Baby #2

postpartum healthy

Y'all, as I write this we are smack dab in the middle of an early 4-month sleep regression (he's currently 3-1/2 months old). I'm exhausted, A is exhausted, and I still haven't fully moved him to his crib upstairs yet. It's rough. So rough that I wandered all over our house looking for a piece of chocolate of ANY kind just to dull the tired. No dice though.   I say this not to brag about my lack of sleep, although I know you guys must be jealous. I say this to point out that when the ... continue reading...

HELLO long weekend! There's really not much that's better than long weekends, right? Except for maybe retirement :)   At the moment we don't have any 4th of July plans, and I'm 100% fine with that. As I've gotten older I've become much more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda gal, so no plans is totally OK. I'm thinking we may need to get some donuts to celebrate 'Merica in our household, but that's about as detailed as we're going to get 'round here!   I hope you guys ... continue reading...

A Fun Fourth in NWA with Kaylee Rutland

Kaylee Rutland's A Good Day to Get Gone album cover

What's everyone planning for the 4th this year?! It's always so much fun to plan outdoor get-togethers, spend time with family and friends, and get ready for the fireworks show to start. Honestly, for the past couple of years, we haven't done a lot in the way of events because figuring out how to have a kid on a holiday with explosives is a little hard. BUT. Now we're sort of semi-pros in having children (really, is anyone ever truly a PRO?) and can really start looking forward to ... continue reading...

Crostini with Fresh Basil Pesto, Cream Cheese and Stone Fruit

crostini with fresh basil pesto, cream cheese and stone fruit

It's summertime and the living (and eating) is good, amen? Most of us have super easy access to tons of basil during these hot months, and what better way to utilize all of that bounty than with a big batch of fresh pesto? We love to entertain, but with two young children it can be hard to just jump in the car and run to the store to pick up food for friends coming over. Besides, I'd rather harvest right off of our back patio for dinner any day of the week! This crostini recipe is super ... continue reading...
