Start Somewhere: Whole30 Update and Workout Love

I feel like a lot of my struggles lately (and by lately I mean my whole entire life) have centered around food. Eating too much, eating too much of one thing, allowing bad habits to take over, etc. That being said, a lot of this "Start Somewhere" series has been focused on food - what I'm eating, what I'm giving up, and so on.   But today I'd like to start off with talking about workouts. Because y'all? I may not be a trainer anymore, but I love a great workout and I'm super happy ... continue reading...

IT'S FRIDAY!!!! HASHTAG FRIYAY, amen? There was nothing particularly bad about this week, but I've been waiting for Friday the whole time. And what do you know...we made it! Yay!   A couple of things: did y'all know I was interviewed by the insanely amazing Taylor on the Boss Girl Creative Podcast? You can check that out here! I had an absolute blast, and can't wait to hug her neck in person in a few short weeks!   Another thing? I changed the name of my Etsy shop! It's now ... continue reading...

Mustard Chicken Marinade

#whole30 approved mustard marinade for grilled chicken || @heathersdish

I can't tell you how many times over the past months I've just wished for fall to get here already so that I could start enjoying the cool mornings, dry - but warm - days, and the chilly evenings. While I live in shorts and T-shirts almost year-round, I can't help but be a little excited about fall clothes as well.   P.S. I have a gift card that my sweet sister got me for Christmas for Lululemon that I haven't used yet. I'm thinking I may go for a top, like a hoodie or something. Any ... continue reading...

Start Somewhere: Starting Whole30

whole30

I feel so completely unqualified to write about Whole30 right now y'all. Despite doing weeks of research and planning, we're only 3 days in (as of this morning), which means that my experience with it so far hasn't reached the hard part. Yet. Regardless, here we are - we've started this thing! - and I'm ready to go the distance with it.   To recap, our Whole30 (Nate is doing it with me) isn't about losing weight. It isn't about achieving a body-after-baby. It's about kicking a major ... continue reading...

positano, italy

First of all, can I just teletransport myself to Positano already? Is teletransport even a word? Good gravy. I've been watching Giada in Italy lately and have been re-watching almost every episode just to feel like I'm on vacation in Europe. Can you even imagine what it must be like to have a family home with this kind of view all the time? I can't get over it...   Can I admit something? We start our Whole30 tomorrow and I'm a little terrified. I know that there will likely be ... continue reading...

Coconut Peach Slush

Coconut Peach Slushy || Heather's Dish

When I shared my story of losing Story there were so many amazing friends - a lot of you - who reached out to love on us during that difficult time. I was shocked at how many women came forward with their own stories of loss, and even more shocked at the number of women have reached out long after the fact. While I had followed Courtney's blog for a while we hadn't ever really connected until she shared the sad news that she, too, had miscarried and was heartbroken. Over the course of the next ... continue reading...

Creamy Balsamic Mushroom Pasta

creamy balsamic mushroom pasta

Growing up we had a few recipes on rotation for our Sunday suppers. My personal favorites were roast beef and root veggies, fried chicken with green beans and rice, and grilled BBQ chicken. My mom is an amazing cook and we always had a great meal to come home to after church on Sunday mornings.   Occasionally though? She would make chicken tetrazzini or stroganoff, neither of which my sister or I liked very much. I've never been that picky of an eater, but I definitely looked forward ... continue reading...

Start Somewhere: Changing Habits

changing habits: intro to our whole30 challenge

hab·it:  /ˈhabət/  noun: a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up Habits. We all have them, right? I have a few weird ones myself: I like to rinse my face exactly 6 times after washing it, something I read about in Seventeen magazine when I was a junior in high school. I like to have a totally clean sink and kitchen counter at the end of the day to make myself feel accomplished. I shower the exact same way every time: shampoo, rinse, condition, ... continue reading...

@sweetaromacoffee

Another week, another exclamation of disbelief in how fast it's gone! If you missed it, I talked health motivation, zoodles, my baby turned 4 months old, and I made homemade Larabars that will knock your socks off. Kind of a mish-mash but I'm loving the freedom that comes with sharing more of life and less of just recipes all the time. Hope you're loving it too!   This weekend we have family in town so we'll be living it up at the pool and likely by a lake at some point. Also, my ... continue reading...

Homemade Chocolate Hazelnut Larabars

Homemade Chocolate Hazelnut Larabars

I've mentioned it here a couple of times, but we're going to be embarking on a Whole30 challenge starting August 1. To be honest I'm a bit nervous; it's just so hard to say no to the sugar and carb-heavy foods that I love, especially when chasing two darling boys around all day. Food prep time is hard to come by, and sometimes a girl just wants a cookie, amiright?   Now the Whole30 rules are very clear that making paleo-friendly treats is off limits because the whole idea is to help ... continue reading...

4 Months Old!

4 month update

I just realized that I totally didn't do a 3 month update for our little nugget! Although I will say that I think his official 3 month birthday was a couple of days after his 12 week update...so we'll just count that as both, OK?   This past month has brought so many small, subtle changes that have added up to a newborn officially becoming a baby. Austin is seriously so much fun and brings so much joy to our little family. Every day presents new challenges, but (as my friend Megan put ... continue reading...

5-Ingredient Zucchini Noodle Bowls

5 ingredient zucchini noodle bowls

I can't even tell you guys how many times I've made this pretty little number for quick lunches, easy dinner side dishes, or even snacks. If you haven't jumped on the zucchini noodle bandwagon (it took me a while too - no judgement), it's about time you took the plunge.   You know how a lot of people rave about spaghetti squash and say crazy things like, "OH, it tastes JUST like spaghetti! I didn't even notice a difference?!" Well, first of all they're lying...spaghetti squash tastes ... continue reading...
