Oh dear. Houston, we have a problem. This "recipe" came in the midst of sheer panic over not having dessert last night. And yes, not having dessert most certainly calls for a state of sheer panic. Thank goodness that state changed within a matter of minutes due to the leftover ladyfingers, some white chocolate chips and a bag of forgotten yet fresh marshmallows. The dessert gods were with me...and now they are with you. Go in peace and create something ridiculous that will cause ... continue reading...
Chicken Cordon Bleu Panini
When it comes to sandwiches I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. Professional. Expert. The problem with sandwiches? I don't actually like making my own. You see, sandwiches that meet the caliber of sandwich that I prefer are rather time intensive for - you know - a sandwich. In an ideal world I would work at home and have the ability to bake my own bread, slow-roast my own meat and veggies, and have the capability to grow heirloom lettuce and tomatoes in my backyard. I ... continue reading...
Apple-Fennel Stuffed Pork Chops
I love apples. I love pork. But I never really figured out a way to fall in love with fennel...until today. You see dinner can be hard for a food blogger sometimes. I spend time all day thinking of recipes and making ingredients lists and doing my very best to do cool new things with flavors and textures. Then dinner rolls around just begging for that same enthusiasm and sometimes I just can't deliver. Poor poor pitiful Nate... Y'all? This one delivers! It's a brand new take on ... continue reading...
Setting Sail
SETTING SAIL by Emily Dickinson Exultation is the going Of an inland soul to sea, -- Past the houses, past the headlands, Into deep eternity! Bred as we, among the mountains, Can the sailor understand The divine intoxication Of the first league out from land? ... continue reading...
Banana Cream Tiramisu
Pick me up. OK don't actually do that...you might hurt yourself. But the word "tiramisu" literally means "pick me up" in Italian - indicative of how the traditional creamy espresso chocolate dessert picks up the soul at the end of a long day. Is it just me or does all-American banana pudding tend to do the same thing? Or if we're being honest here - and we should be because The Dish is a safe place - anything with sugar, coffee, and a bit 'o' rum does exactly that. Give me any ... continue reading...
The Gazebo
When Nate and I went to Maui for our honeymoon we met up with a family friend who worked at the Ritz-Carlton for tips on where we should eat and how to best see Maui in the short time that we were there. The very first place he recommended was The Gazebo. The Gazebo is literally just that - a gazebo. They have about 12 tables, the wait staff has all worked there for a LONG time, they work from 7-2 every day, and constantly have a line that's about an hour wait. And is it worth ... continue reading...
Potato-Broccoli Gratin
I've never really had an issue with veggies. Sure, there were things that I never really looked forward to eating like stuffed bell peppers (blech) and a weird unfounded hatred for onions. But the rest of them were fair game! Plus, I think any time you add cheesy creamy sauce it constitutes a winning vegetable dish in my book. Or really anyone's book...I would hope. I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate cheesy creaminess when it's applied to food-related topics. The plan ... continue reading...
My Mom
I never knew what it took to be a mom until earlier this year I had the potential to be one myself. Having a miscarriage was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. I love that baby so much, and in the time that I got to care for it I had the chance to realize just how strong a mother's love is for their child. When everything went down the first person I called after leaving the hospital was my mom, the one person I knew could speak love into my heart at that time, ... continue reading...
SPRING is Here!

Italian Wines
The other night I had the honor of participating in an event with Bertolli and Cavit in tasting the wines of Italy. The group was led by Sommelier and vino Italiano expert Stacie Hunt, certified by the Association of Italian Sommeliers. She was also joined by two fantastic bloggers: Jen from Second City Soiree and Evelyn from He Sipped/She Sipped.I learned so much! I learned about what swirling the wine does for the aroma, how to detect different flavor components, and that even the subtle ... continue reading...
Grilled Pineapple with Rum Caramel Sauce
Here’s the deal: I love pineapple. Always have, always will. The smell is intoxicating – perfume of the tropics if you will. Rum on the other hand…well, I do love it but mainly because it actually IS intoxicating. And let’s face it: when you’re IN the tropics a little extra intoxication is never a bad thing. My husband and I have been big fans of grilled pineapple for summer desserts for some time now. Serve that up with a little vanilla ice cream and you’ve got yourself a ... continue reading...
BBQ Chicken & Sweet Potato Lasagna
If you've been reading the blog for a while, you know that I have this identity crisis going on all the time. Am I Texan? Am I Italian? Am I a beach-loving surfer girl? It's exhausting! I must admit that there are days when I feel like all three, but when I have the chance to mix 2 or all 3 personalities mindsets I take it. I guess I should clarify - this is all in regards to my cooking, decorating, and gardening. Mainly. I know my identity but there's just something fun about a ... continue reading...
