Hello! How’s your Tuesday?!
I know mine is good so far…but then again I’ve only been awake for going on 30 minutes. Because that’s just how I roll.
I am so excited about my lunch later today…mainly because it’s exactly what I had yesterday. Oh, and Sunday too. Because again, that’s just how I roll.
Beautiful readers, meet pasta bowl. Pasta bowl, meet my beautiful readers 🙂
The sauce is a basic store-bought marinara that I pumped full of fabulous veggies: zucchini, yellow squash, tomato, red onion, garlic. And a little chicken sausage, heat through, and serve over your favorite pasta. My favorite cut of pasta is gemelli, so I boiled a pound of it for Nate and I to share for lunch for the next couple of days 🙂
I had a great run yesterday too! I haven’t really shared a lot about my workouts lately, but I’ve been working on trying not to do a heel-strike when I run. This is (from the small amount of research I’ve done) one of the first steps of barefoot running (please note that I have no intentions of ever running barefoot, but want to work up to running in Vibrams once we can afford them – anyone want to get me a great deal on them?!?!). I’m still doing it in my shoes, but I’m trying to acclimate the many, many muscles in my feet to get used to running that way. All that to say I’ve been doing this for several months, just a little bit at a time, and have not felt any knee pain ever since. I’ve also been able to work myself up to the equivalent of 30 minutes of running in 1.5 minute increments. Fun fun!
After the great workout we started driving home, only to find ourselves in the worst bit of SOUL-SUCKING TRAFFIC I think I’ve ever been in. We were certain there were cars all over the highway, a semi had blocked off all traffic, or the apocalypse was upon us. It just HAD to be one of those things!
An hour and 2 miles later we found out that they were just filling in a pothole.
Not cool, Boulder County, NOT cool.
We got home, Nate grabbed a beer, and I grabbed a spoon and went to town on some cobbler:
I had to. Boulder county made me do it.
Dinner was half of a small thin-crust pizza, and I loved every bite! Why don’t I eat pizza more often? I mean, I know I eat it a couple times a week, but…why don’t I eat it more often? 🙂
I’m about to get my WillPower & Grace on then get ready for work, but in the meantime: What are some of your biggest pet peeves? Go on, let loose! I HATE TRAFFIC, but I also hate the sound of people picking at their fingernails/toenails, nails on a chalkboard, and when someone uses ‘your’ instead of ‘you’re’ and vice-versa. SHIVERS!
Mary says
Big pet peeve…inconsiderate people, no matter what they are doing. Traffic is up there too…that’s why I live in a small city.
kbwood says
pet peve- when people DONT WAVE BACK AFTER YOU LET THEM IN DURING TRAFFIC! hahaha! its not TOO much to ask, right? i just want A WAVE!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That pasta looks DELISH!!! And you and your man make a pretty good looking couple! Kudos for snatching that one 😀
Emily says
That picture of you and Nate is too cute.
Traffic is my constant pet peeve. However, I am teaching a summer camp this week, so my biggest pet peeve of the moment is when I get interrupted and can’t finish my sentence…over and over and over again. 🙂 Kids are awesome, but really impatient!
Ashley says
So glad the toe running is working for you!! Pet peeves…right now my biggest one is at the park. There is CLEARLY a bike/wheels lane and a lane for walking/running/etc. People do NOT understand that and it’s dangerous. I’ve almost hit people on my bike that pop onto the bike lane out of nowhere. Or people w/the expendable dog leashes letting there dogs frolic in the bike lane. Drives me INsane.
Tina says
The cobbler looks delicious. I would likely need something like that after sitting in so much traffic too. I have very little patience for traffic. Unless I have a book in my car. LOL I’m only slightly kidding….
Matt says
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people smack their gum. I HATE it.
Ashley Solomon says
New to your blog! I’m wondering if you can elaborate on the “heel-strike”… I’m curious what that’s all about.
Heather says
it basically means that, in general, runners tend to hit their heel on the pavement first and then roll up off of the toes as you complete the step. part of what i’ve learned about barefoot running is that it is highly jarring for our bodies to run with a heel strike, but it’s almost impossible to NOT do it with the shoes that are on the market today. i know that i have noticed a huge difference in the way my body feels running, and whenever i walk and heel-strike it kills my knees. that was proof enough for me 🙂
Lori says
That cobbler looks super good. Yum! And yeah, I HATE traffic too. Hate it. And that is a strong word.
Sorry you had to sit in it!
🙂
Katie @ Health for the Whole Self says
That picture of you and Nate is gorgeous with a capital “G”! 🙂
And I’m with you on traffic…all traffic is soul-sucking, in my opinion.
Amy @ Second City Randomness says
I think it’s great you’re slowly working your way to being comfortable running that way before purchasing the Vibrams. I saw a guy in my race last week that that seemed to be a newbie to them… poor guy took them off mid-race and ran the rest of it barefoot! Which I feel like it would be similar, but still- sucks to not be ready for the shoes yet!
Anna says
Ha– yeah, as an English teacher, you’re versus your is a BIG one for me. Actually, all grammar errors are my pet peeves, I guess.
I also can’t stand when people smack while they eat.
Jess (Nurse Jess the Blog) says
Hey there! REI had Vibrams stocked online (for the first time in a while) last week, FYI. There not really that expensive when you compare them to good running shoes. I love my V’s but have no intentions of going totally barefoot either – love my pedicures too much!
Jennifer says
My biggest pet peeve is when I’m running on the sidewalk and some guy drives by in his truck staring me down. I try not to look at them because if you do, they think you want them. But then as I look ahead I see that they “just so happen” need to pull down the street that I’m about to cross but they drive so slow. Eessh, that get’s me everytime.
Laury @thefitnessdish says
What a beautiful pic of you and your man!!! You’re so pretty!!!!!
I could write the book on road pet peeves, I don’t wanna say road rage..but, i guess I will…I said it, I have road rage. I can not STAND irresponsable drivers, swaying into my lane bc they are on their celly or texting. I hate traffic that is caused by ONE car on the side of the road that everyone needs to slow down and look at!! GAWD….I feel better now 😉
LOL
Have a great day!
Sarah for Real says
What do you do instead of the heel-strike?
Heather says
i kind of equate it to running on your toes…so rather than hitting the heel and then rolling up off your toes, you lightly hit the ball/transverse arch of your foot and roll up off your toes. it shortens your stride, but you land lighter and can take off faster. plus it helps me focus on running with my toes straight ahead rather than off to the side!
GeoBroad says
TRAFFIC….totally agree Houston is sooo bad and the worst thing in traffic for me is those people who insist on driving about 10 miles BELOW the speed limit……go on already!!!!
NICE blog by the way!! very interesting. I’ve started mine recently to focus on my 55 pound weight loss (still counting) and training my dog and….other stuff…..check me out!!
LiveForTheRun says
Soul-sucking traffic, haaa. Well at least you were in Boulder, CO and not hot Atlanta. I would take a view in Boulder any day of the week, lol.
Traffic is definitely annoying, but what’s been grinding my gears lately are people who will text or get on their phone right in front of you mid sentence. UM?!
Katie says
Bad grammar/spelling is very annoying. Just seen on facebook: someone wrote “I would ball” meaning “I would bawl.” Yikes!
tricia says
great job focusing on your form, its something I’m working on as well
Lele says
Seeing your picture reminded me that I love that pasta shape too (and hadn’t known the name of it!)
I hate sitting in stop and go traffic more than basically anything, except maybe going to the dentist.
Katie says
I hate you’re/your too!
Oh, and there was an accident yesterday right before the Louisville exit during rush hour. That is probably what you got stuck in!
EmbraceYourSkin says
That cobbler looks fan-freaking-tastic!
Maria @ Oh Healthy Day says
My biggest pet peeve is traffic as well. Just to do a small errand where I live (like filling up with gas) can take at least 30 minutes. Argh 🙂
Tasha - The Clean Eating Mama says
Congrats on the pain-free running!
And yes – traffic jams are very soul-sucking =(
glutenfreemuse says
I hate the sound of spit moving in people’s mouths, the sound of people smacking while eating, and I absolutely ABHORE sneezing!! Don’t know what it is, but I just want to punch people when they sneeze. My husband always flinches after he sneezes…poor guy 🙁

Tanya says
I’m with you on the traffic. Toronto is the home of the Don Valley Parking lot…er parkway. I thankfully moved north to get away from it.
The cobbler looks delicious. Have a great day
Kelly says
I hate traffic too…I try my best to avoid it at all costs!
Salah says
I wish dallas traffic would make me eat cobbler….that looks so yummy!
tanyasDailyProductReviews says
traffic…isn’t a fun one…but I finally realized to just go with it…and that makes me more relaxed and able to handle it….enjoy the music..talk with the other person in the car….make it positive(there might be a good reason I’m being slowed downed)
LeeAnn says
I heard there was an overturned trailer as well-that traffic was a nightmare!
Heather says
My major pet peeves are grammar related for sure! I also get irritated with loud tvs. I’m constantly saying, “can you please turn that down??”
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
I with you on the traffic! DC traffic is horrendous! When I was working full-time, my job was 6 miles away from my house and it would take me just over 50 minutes to get there… and a bad day, it would take me over an hour!!
