Hi there ๐Ÿ™‚

My lunch today was the picture of health:

French fries with ranch and…wait for it….

Chicken wings!!!ย  These were leftover from dinner last night and Steph offered them to us for free.ย  I mean, who are we to turn down free food?!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, today is Keira’s 1 year birthday!!!

My little baby girl is growing up so fast!ย  We’re about to go get her a new collar or something special to celebrate ๐Ÿ™‚ย  When we first adopted Keira from the Boulder Humane Society she was “diagnosed” with major fear issues.ย  She was seriously afraid of EVERYTHING!ย  For two weeks she peed and pooped on the floor repeatedly, hid from us if we moved too quickly, and stayed as far away from Bunker as possible.ย  After two weeks I was worried that we’d made the wrong decision bringing her home, and although I would never EVER return a shelter animal unless it was a danger to our health, I just wondered if we’d made the right choice.ย  Then one day, about 2.5 weeks later, she fell in love with Bunker and her entire demeanor completely changed.ย  She just blossomed into the sweetest, cuddliest, wonderful puppy overnight!ย  Now there’s no way I could imagine our little family without her ๐Ÿ™‚

In honor of Keira’s birthday, I want to know about nicknames.ย  Nicknames for your pets, you, your significant other, etc! We’ll start with the easy ones:ย  Nate usually calls me Scooter and I call him Wido (pronounce Wee-dough) (don’t ask why) (really, don’t, because I don’t really know why) ๐Ÿ™‚ย  And now, for the dogs:

Bunker

  • Bunks, Bunkster, Bunky-Boy
  • Buddy Bear, Baby Bear
  • Bunker Wunker
  • Puppy-duppy (yes, I’m serious)
  • Boots, Booter, Booter-B
  • Jamba, Jamba-Juicer

Keira

  • Keira Belle
  • Key-Belle
  • Keeter, Keeter Beeter, Keeter Belle
  • Shnookies, Shnookie-Bear
  • Baby Girl

Our kids don’t stand a chance!

Love, Love, LOVE me some good Mexican food. Especially fresh Mexican food that you make yourself. My husband and I love taco night. And grilling veggies is the best!

I have two kitties that rarely get called by their real names.

There is Lola, but I call her LoLo, Lo-to-the-liza (yup), Lolita, mama bear, and my little piggy face.

Then there is Nicco, who I call Nik-a-leek, Nicco Suave, Niccola, bunny face and pantaloons (her backside looks like she has pantaloons on…it’s hilarious, really).

Good to know I’m not the only one to call my pets ridiculous names ๐Ÿ™‚

My dog’s name is Nilla, but is unrelated to her nicknames…

the little poo-er, the little sh*tter, the little stinker, you get the idea.

She is also simply “puppy” most of the time, even though she is full grown.

I think your wings and fries look delish. I love buffalo wings with blue cheese! Kind makes me want to have some tonight. My dog too has a long list of nicknames that are nothing like her real name:

boo, schlu, schlitzie, bitsy, pootie, angel, devil….the list goes on and on!

It’s amazing how much of a transformation your pets can make after being adopted. I was just talking about it tonight – of how far Thatch has come and how he’s a completely different dog than when we first got him. I now suggest to people that 4-6 weeks is a good “adjustment” frame (ie the “don’t give up hope yet!” time period).

Nicknames… well, the oddest is the fact that we call our completely white dog, the smurf, this is the same dog that strangers normally call “snowball” or “snowflake.” I have no idea where it came from or why we persist in calling our furry large white dog after a hairless small blue creature… but we do.
One of our cats is so privileged as to have the nicknames “the prince” as well as “butthead.” In our defense, he really does butt heads with you to show affection… but we might be referring to the fact that he toys with the dogs like none other.

Wow, I didn’t know pets had psyhcological issues, too. But happy birthday to dear Keira!

My friends call me Gorgeous, Genius, Generous, Pretty Girl, Cutie, Adorable…

Okay, I’m lying. They call me Soap. No idea why. Probably too lazy to say So-PHI-a, three vowels.

    Hi Heather!
I just discovered your blog and I absolutely LOVE it! You have such a wonderful blend of humor mixed with reality! I adore what you said in your last post about getting out of the way and letting God direct. Goodness gracious, I need to start doing that!

My dachshund, Cessna has many names several of which aren’t very family friendly but just a few…

    Bubba
    Nena
    Fat man
    Noogle monster
George Costanza (he used to be overweight, has male pattern baldness, never much of a way with the ladies, and still lives at home with the parents)
    Mr. Man

His full name is Cessna Barktholomew the piddle maker, poor guy never really had a chance.

    Happy birthday to Keira!

I call my female cat (Domino) “Baby Girl,” and my male cat (Hamilton) “My Little Man.” Said in a ridiculously silly voice, of course. ๐Ÿ™‚
