Since starting my journey with Beautycounter on January 1, 2017 I’ve had so many questions from friends and family about what the heck it actually means to be a Beautycounter consultant. I know before I ever considered joining my friend Madison’s team I would read every single one of her blog and social media posts that shared exactly what she was doing and how it was bringing in income for her family. I didn’t know it at the time, but her open and honest sharing of how this company was changing her life? Well, it was about to change mine. My hope is that with this post you can see an honest look at what it means to be a Beautycounter consultant; however, if you have a question that’s not answered on here? PLEASE ask – you can comment or email me anytime at heathersdish (at) gmail (dot) com.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BECOME A CONSULTANT?
First you’ll sign up by clicking here. You’ll enter in all your information to get started, and the sign-up fee is $98. This goes toward creating and maintaining your personal website, give you access to all the training and tools you could ever need, access to customer support, marketing materials (including 2 hero products and more), and every business tool under the sun. $10 of that fee goes toward a non-profit of your choice, which I loved. It showed me from the get-go that Beautycounter really cares about making a difference.
SO $98 IS ALL IT TAKES TO SIGN UP?
Short answer? Yes. Long answer – that’s all it takes to sign up, but after that you have a ONE TIME opportunity to purchase one of three starter kits at a very highly discounted price. While you don’t have to take advantage of this, I would highly recommend you do because when you do socials or need a way to showcase the products it really makes a difference if you have them on hand. You can read about all of the starter kits by clicking here and scrolling down close to the bottom.
OK, SO I’M ALL SIGNED UP. NOW WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?
Here’s the beauty of it all (pun totally intended): you get to choose. There is a 6-month volume minimum of $1200 in qualifying volume, which means whatever you sell plus whatever you buy. I was a little concerned at first that I wouldn’t hit that, but around the middle of month 2 I surpassed it by a long shot. Truth be told these products sell themselves; it’s up to us consultants to simply share about them in authentic ways with people we love. The amazing thing is that our mission is the driving force of what we do, so when you join Beautycounter the expectation is for you to fulfill that mission in any way you can/want. Read our full income disclosure statement here.
I’M SCARED I’LL PUSH ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AWAY BECAUSE IT’S AN MLM.
Well, truth be told I understand that concern, but the best advice I can give is don’t just be another MLM. Beautycounter as a company isn’t like any other MLM out there; therefore you don’t have to be like every other network marketer out there either. Share from a place of caring, have authentic conversations, show your concern for people because you care. Think of all the things that drive you away from other people doing MLMs….and then do the opposite. When you love a product you share about it with anyone and everyone, and Beautycounter is no different except we also have a social mission to go with our effective and innovative products.
WHY IS BEAUTYCOUNTER AN MLM ANYWAY?
Our founder, Gregg Renfrew, chose this business model because she recognized that sharing products and sharing a social mission is best told in the context of relationship. It’s rare that I’ll just walk up to a random stranger to talk about my night cream, but if we’re acquaintances? Forget about it. Whenever people ask why my skin is glowing or how I keep acne at bay I’m happy to share the products I use and then a little about the company as well. Think about it: we recommend things all the time – books, TV shows, Target deals, clothing steals. Personal care products fall into that same category! And, because we are a company on a mission to get safer skincare into the hands of everyone, we want our interactions to be completely effective. Relationships are the best way to do that.
I CAN’T GET OVER THE MLM THING. BESIDES THE MISSION, WHAT ELSE MAKES BEAUTYCOUNTER DIFFERENT?
Y’all know I haven’t worked for any other MLM companies, but here are the key differences that I was drawn to:
- Our commitment to safety is unparalleled. Unlike a lot of other companies we screen continually, even after products have been created, to insure that our products meet our strict standards. Plus every single ingredient is disclosed, both in the product packaging and online.
- You don’t have to sign up for autoship and other than the $1200 volume minimum (mentioned above) you are the boss of how you run your business. We don’t require that you purchase certain products or monthly minimums for you as a consultant.
- If you know someone who is so turned off by the MLM business model? Well, they don’t have to purchase from you or anyone else for that matter – they can just order online!
- Our products are safe, innovative and effective. We are leading the crusade for safer products, and where many other companies are just starting to disclose ingredients? We’ve been doing that for 4 years and are now creating products that do more than any synthetic, hormone disrupting, potentially carcinogenic ingredient ever could. I have to say, it feels good leading the pack 😉
WHAT IS THE COMMISSION STRUCTURE IF I’M A CONSULTANT?
We earn 25%-35% on every sale we make; the commission percentage increases as your sales increase. Plus you are able to purchase for 25% off because of your consultant status, which I realize isn’t a commission, but a perk nonetheless!
OK OK OK – SO WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOU DO THEN?
Well, my business is run the way I want/need it to at any given point. Much of my online presence and influence has been building through my blog and social media accounts, so I do a lot of sharing there. I also have daily conversations with clients and potential clients, offer occasional samples, run giveaways, etc. I schedule online and in person socials (parties to present the product in fun ways), create marketing plans, and mentor the women on my team. I creatively weave safer beauty into my life and into the lives of others – and I have fun doing it!
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PART OF BEING A CONSULTANT?
Honestly I don’t know if I have anything that stands out as a least favorite – it’s honestly a lot of fun, and I am part of the MOST supportive team I could imagine. These women have become my friends and coworkers, and we support one another whole-heartedly. It’s pretty amazing!
MY HANDS ARE SHAKING BUT I THINK I WANT TO DIVE IN. HOW DO I DO THAT AGAIN?
Girl, I got you! We’re in this together 🙂 The first thing you’ll want to do is sign up by clicking here. Make sure you add me as your mentor (you can do a simple name search for Heather Disarro if it doesn’t automatically populate). Decide which one (if any) of the starter kits you want because the only time you can buy at this percentage of a discount is when you first sign up. Once you’re signed up I’ll be notified, your products will ship out, and we’ll jump right in. There are some pretty incredible ways to earn amazing extra cash during your first couple of months, too, so we’ll cover that as well!
THE PRODUCTS ARE COOL BUT I JUST DON’T WANT TO THE CONSULTANT THING.
No biggie! If anything reading this gives you insight into what we do and (hopefully) helps you better support anyone who’s a consultant!
