Well, dear friends, as it turns out we have a cat napper on our hands, and I don’t mean me. And I don’t mean Wes. And I don’t mean Nate or the dogs. Yes, it’s true – Austin has decided that sleeping at night is OK, but during the day? For the birds.
Earlier in Austin’s life I was downing tons of bread, rolls, desserts and candy because they were the only thing I could grab with a baby in one hand, a toddler hanging onto my wrist and dogs following us from room to room. But that’s not a lifestyle that can life for long, you know? So I decided to make a change.
I started packing smoothie ingredients into plastic bags and throwing them in the freezer, then blending them with a cup of soy milk for a quick one-handed meal or snack that I felt good about drinking. It’s a little new mommy trick that I’m so thankful to have made because it’s made all the difference in the world for my energy levels and ability to care for these sweet babies!
Some of my favorite smoothies are the simplest to make, with ingredients I always have on hand. And those little smoothie bags? They take all of 15 minutes to throw together and are saving my sanity (and waistline for that matter) as I figure out this whole parenting thing. Silk Soymilk is a good source of protein, has 8 grams of plant-powered protein per serving, has no cholesterol, is low in saturated fat, and tastes delicious! For the day-to-day smoothie I use Silk Original Soymilk, but when I want something that tastes sweeter (because let’s face it, all I want is to shove all the desserts in my face) I like the sweetness that Silk Vanilla Soymilk lends to the mixtures.
Listed below are some of my favorite recipes, and I literally just throw everything in the plastic bag BUT the Soymilk and then just dump and blend when I get hungry! The great protein gives me so much more energy, and has real staying power when I’m chasing babies through this house!
Chocolate-covered cherry smoothie
Blueberry banana almond butter smoothie (I add the almond butter with the Soymilk, not in the bag)
Tropical protein smoothie (I add the cottage cheese with the Soymilk, not in the bag)
Green chocolate nut butter smoothie (I add the nut butter with the Soymilk, not in the bag)
Skinny peanut butter banana smoothie
Coconut mango pineapple smoothie
Strawberry pineapple kale smoothie

Thank you for all of these recipes. I’ve been thinking about preparing containers with fruits so all I have to do is put it in the blender. Hopefully I can start soon. I need to start eating healthier

That’s a really good idea! I love smoothies but I almost always do the same thing (banana, almond milk, protein powder, spinach, and peanut butter) so I think I might switch it up a little!
