BBQ Night at the Texan's House

You know when you make big plans for the weekend and totally plan out your next couple of weeks with travel and trying to fit all of the “normal” activities in as well?  And then something happens and changes all of those well thought-out plans?  And you get bummed about it because you work so hard to do the best you could?

That’s how I felt when I found out on Friday afternoon that I did not advance to Round 4 of Project Food Blog.  Don’t get me wrong, I am so very thankful for the experience and most of all for ALL of your votes and well-wishes.  I am just extremely competitive and hate to lose.  But y’all?  Everything happens for a reason!

If I had advanced I wouldn’t have been able to eat Little Caesar’s take-out pizza in my car outside the movie theater with my husband while we watched the sun set behind the mountains.  If I had advanced I wouldn’t have been able to go see The Social Network and celebrate Friday night date night.

And if I had advanced there wouldn’t have been any time or room in the kitchen for Nate to smoke some of the best ribs and brisket I’ve ever had.

So in the end it was a good thing and this weekend just made me realize that there is something even better for me around the corner!

Moving onward – the secret to bbq is simple…

It’s not in the rub, although a good rub is very important.

It’s not in the sauce, although a great sauce makes a huge difference.

It’s not in the cut of meat, the slices of bread, or even the wine (?!) that you choose to drink alongside it.

So then what’s the secret you ask?

Marrying a guy who really knows what he’s doing 🙂  Thanks for turning a crappy weekend upside down sweetie!  I love you 🙂

Sorry you didn’t advance (according to Foodbuzz) but you’re skills and talent are far in advance of others 😉

Bummer you didn’t win, but you did such an awesome job and you got a ton of exposure from this!
The food all looked incredible. 🙂

Also, what do you have there, a meat smoker? I’m so meat-challenged.

Yep, it’s a smoker…we got it 2 years ago for $50 at Walmart when they were getting rid of all outdoor summer stuff to make room for winter stuff in their garden area! definitely one of the best food purchases we’ve made 🙂

I actually thought you made it and I was jumping up and down for you, until my friend said “she doesn’t have a trophy next to her!” So sad!

Glad your hubs was able to turn your frown upside down!

I know why you are one of my favorite people whose blog I read. Your spirit comes through in all that you say and do. You are so well grounded, so real, so open etc. etc., that I feel I’ve known you for years and I haven’t even met you.
Your guy is amazing too! I applaud his achievements but more so his ability to light your world.
Congratulations on making what could have been a rotten weekend, into a wonderful memory.
    You rock!!!

Glad you had a good weekend and always remember perspective IS everything! I have learned that with my hand injury that sometimes the worst things turn out to teach you the best lessons about what in life is most important!

YES! To all of this. Look your outlook…wish you’d advanced to the next round but so awesome that you made it as far as you did. 🙂

Billy and I also had date night Friday night and we ALSO saw The Social Network. But we snuck our dinner into the movie theater in my big purse – haha. xoxo
