Strawberry shortcake for two plus MORE lovely strawberry recipes for Spring!

Y’all if there’s anything that screams spring and summer to me, it’s sun-warmed and sun-ripened strawberries. Growing up we had a small strawberry garden that was honestly the coolest part of our garden in those days; I loved watching the green berries slowly turn bright red, and the moment we were allowed to pick them? Magical!

I’m actually really picky about my strawberries, and most fruit in general. I don’t love when they’re mushy and super sweet – I like a teeny bit of tartness, bite and earthiness. I love macerated berries with a touch of black pepper (what?! yes, black pepper!) over yogurt or ice cream. And did you know that a strawberry dipped in a bit of course ground black pepper is a great accompaniment to Pinot Noir? A great party trick if you’re ever looking for one!

While I’m on my little maternity “leave” I thought it would be fun to pull together some of my favorite recipes from the past 6 years, starting with the thing that reminds me of summer more than anything else! Y’all enjoy!

If you can I highly recommend growing strawberries. They are hardy and will take over your garden and the results are spectacular. Beautiful little juicy sweet jewels.
