Marriage Ref Part Deux

Y’all, we made it to Friday! Way to go team 🙂  So I have something fun, so let’s go over the eats first real fast!

Last night for dinner we decided to go on a mini-date to Macaroni Grill and split an entree.  I forgot any camera I have, so these are my attempts at doctoring up iPhone images!  We had a loaf of bread with a little “Italian butter” (that’s what the waitress called the black pepper and olive oil combo):

And then we split the Penne Rustica, which was penne pasta, pancetta, shrimp, chicken, and a cream sauce all baked together with some roasted red peppers on top.  Healthy?  No.  Heaven in my mouth?  Yes!

‘Twas a delicious meal shared with my hunky husband (:))!  The rest of the night I cleaned up the kitchen and then decided to fall asleep to Julie & Julia!

This morning I slept in, which meant no yoga, and had a Chocolate Peanut Butter Green Monster:

Holy.YUM.  I don’t know why I’ve wasted my time with other GMs in the past (mostly kidding)!  I also sipped on some iced tea.  I’ve found my favorite fail-proof method for strong iced tea.  You take 3 of these tea bags:

Boil 1 quart of water and pour over those 3 bags in a pitcher.  Let sit for 5 minutes, then pull the tea bags out.  Sweeten with whatever you want (I use 1/4 cup of Splenda – yes, Splenda!)  Turns out perfect every time!

Since we had such an overwhelming response last week to the Great Toilet Paper Debate, I’d like to start using Friday morning posts as a way to “ref” silly arguments people have in marriages.  These will not be over anything serious, but they DO require you to answer in a comment on the post to be counted in the vote!  I’m also open to any suggestions for topics (just email them to me at heathersdish@gmail.com)!

This week’s battle:  to make the bed or to not make the bed, that is the question! One of us prefers the bed look similar to this every day:

(source)

And the other doesn’t care if the bed looks like this every day:

(source)

So there you have it!  What are your thoughts?  Should you make the bed every morning when you get up so the room looks pretty and clean?  Or should you just leave it since you’ll be getting in it and messing the sheets up again later that night?

Hmmm… I’m a person that likes to come home after work to a clean home so I prefer the bed made, it doesn’t take long in the morning 🙂

Hmm that’s a tough question. I typically like the bed to be made because it just mentally makes me feel more organized to know that our bedroom is not messy. But, since our bedroom is in the back of the house and no one ever sees it unless their touring our home, I have no problem not making it if I feel I have more important things to do.

When I was growing up, my mom wouldnt let us come down from our bedrooms until our beds were made. Now that I am 20 and my brother is 25, he doesnt make his bed because he could care less… but I cant eat breakfast until my bed is made or else I would completely stress out about it… I am a complete perfectionist!!

Make it for sure….it always makes me feel ready for the rest of the day if I make it. If I start my day without making it usually I’m lethargic all day

I am a little obessive about my bed…haha! I have to make it everyday and if for reason I don’t (which is quite rare) I make it up before getting into it. I know I know…but I can’t stand to get into crinkled sheets!

I’ll admit that I hate making the bed! Although I would prefer that it look all nice and tidy. That’s when my OCD husband comes in hand 🙂

hahah yeah I find it pointless to make the bed. You’re just going to get back into it. I only make the bed if I want it to look nice or if I am doing homework and need a flat surface to work with.

I like the bed to be made, my husband doesn’t care – actually he somewhat does, when he lived alone he would pull up the sheets and straighten it all out… before getting into bed at night. Since he gets up hours later than I do, we’ve gotten to the point where he straightens the sheet & comforter, which works for me. So it’s not picture perfect, but the covers are up to prevent the sheets from getting tons of cat hair on them (the cats take over the bed during the day).

Too funny! I’m the same way. My boyfriend like the bed to be made daily. And I HATE that! I don’t like making my bed and rather have my sheets and comforter in shambles.

We NEVER make our bed! However we never have people over either- if we did it would probably be different!

When I left my mom’s house, I freed myself of bed making duties. Then I moved in with a very nice, but very clean-freakish man who has made his bed every single day of his life. So now, I make the bed every now and then. Compromise.

I like Katie’s theory though..gotta air out those sheets!

I feel guilty all day if the bed is not made. I have been known to make the bed 15 minutes before climbing in to go to sleep-it just makes me feel better!

I used to try and make my bed everyday but I read somewhere (in Real Simple maybe?) that it’s better to leave the covers off during the day so the sheets can air out. I really need to find this source haha. I’ll make the bed after I wash my sheets or whenever I straighten up, but not everyday.

This is not a debate in our house since I could really care less. I like it when it is made because it looks nice but I am ok with it being un-made unless we are having company. BUT, my husband likes it to be made and he gets up much later than me (he isn’t even up when I leave for work) and since he likes it made, he makes it.
