Godiva Chocolate Affogato

Have you ever had an affogato?

It’s basically heaven.  Heaven being a scoop of vanilla gelato topped with a shot of espresso.  And since you and I are LIKETHIS I think we can both agree that heaven will be made up of affogatos and pizza, right?

Right.

If you didn’t know, I love coffee.  I used to think it smelled terrible, but now the moment the scent hits my nose I go crazy.  Happy crazy.  In fact, when I worked at Starbucks I would always volunteer to put the espresso beans in the hoppers of the machines because it smelled SO amazing at 4:30 in the morning.  My teammates let me because I was the tallest.  It worked out.

Needless to say, when Foodbuzz sent me samples of the Godiva Chocolate Truffle and French Vanilla flavors through their Tastemaker Program I went crazy for them.  Loved the smell, loved the taste…but then I couldn’t figure out what to make with them.  Seriously, there were almost too many options!  I went back and forth between a cake or a hot fudge sauce, but in the end I decided that the only thing I really wanted was to have an affogato.  Only a little more Americanized.  It’s just how I roll!

GODIVA CHOCOLATE AFFOGATO

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup brewed Godiva Chocolate Truffle coffee (the reality is that you could use another coffee, but the chocolate flavor is so much stronger if you use Godiva!)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp light corn syrup
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream (I will always always recommend Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla.  Always)

Bring the coffee, sugar, corn syrup and salt to a simmer.  Meanwhile melt the chocolate chips and butter in the microwave slowly, stirring every 30 seconds or so.  I would also recommend using a lower heat setting.  As soon as the chocolate/butter is melted pour it into the simmering liquid.  Bring to a rolling boil, stirring the whole time, for about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and add another little sprinkle of chocolate chips for some texture.  Divide the pint of ice cream into 4 glasses.  Top with the chocolate coffee mixture.  Enjoy!

I’m telling you guys, heaven.  Heaven in a glass!

That’s always my husband’s go-to dessert. Except he sneaks hazelnut liqueur in as well.

Affogato is SO good. I think my perfect dinner consists of pizza and affogato (and/or tiramisu).
