Julia’s Banana Bread

Banana bread.  I’d call it a staple in my diet these days, what with the crazy influx of bananas in our house.  But no one does it like Julia’s.  And no one has the view like Julia’s!
Touted as the best banana bread on the planet, Julia’s Banana Bread is found in the village of Kahakuloa on the side of the road in a tree house.

A tree house I tell you!  That makes it more legit when you’re talking banana bread.  It doesn’t even matter if the tree is a banana tree or not; in fact, I’d be willing to argue that a business in a tree house is probably the most legit of all.  And I only wish I were kidding, but the reality is that I’ll probably visit just about any business in a tree house.

There’s just something to be said about that.

So the verdict:  is Julia’s the best banana bread on the planet?  I don’t know if you can really compare it to other banana breads since it quite clearly has this unfair advantage:

That being said, it’s incredibly moist and not overly banana-y.  It’s clearly baked with love and, well, quite honestly I forgot to actually take a picture of it.  Probably because I was too busy stuffing my face with it…and every other food item on the island.  But it’s delicious and definitely in the top 5 on the planet.

Sorry guys, Mom’s is always the best!

In addition to the fabulous banana bread, Julia’s sells coconut candy (which I was told is coconut meat and sugar water boiled down together – yes!), pistachios, macadamia nuts, assorted jellies, and fruit juices.  It’s a tropical vacation in and of itself!

So there you have it – one of the many treasures of Maui, and clearly of the planet.  Next up we’ll be talking about the drives you can take if you can handle winding roads with stunning views.  Till then, aloha y’all!
