A Half Eaten Day

Hey everyone!  Thanks so much for the awesome responses to my HPJ post…I’m very excited to see where it takes me!  Like I said, I don’t really care if I end up fitting in my smaller pants (no sizes, remember?! :)) but I do want to continue to be my healthiest self!

Today for lunch I was so excited to eat the Jazzberry Salad that I got for free at work yesterday!

Spinach, red onions, strawberries, raspberries, roasted almonds, avocado, jalapenos, and berry dressing.  Sounds amazing, right?  And so pretty too!

After about 5 bites I didn’t like it, but I kept eating the spinach leaves because I figure I need the iron and fiber and whatnot.  Halfway through I was done, though.  It just wasn’t a great mesh of flavors!

Not to be put off, I turned to my last sweet potato to save the day.  Microwaved for 7 minutes on high wrapped in a paper towel:

And it STILL wasn’t done!  I was shocked!  But, I didn’t feel like re-heating it and I didn’t feel like making something else to only eat half, so I ate the done parts of the potato and sulked.  I hate it when I’m really excited to eat something and it turns into a major fail!

One thing that did NOT disappoint though?  This bad boy that I got in the mail yesterday!

I love Bon Appetit, and have already found a slew of recipes I’m just dying to make!  First up I have an eggplant to use, so I’m thinking eggplant parm (the one on the cover) for dinner sometime this week!

I just got done with my walk, the first part of my workout, and am now snacking on the yogurt/cranberries/chocolate chips/coconut/GrapeNut madness that I love:

Once we get home I’m going to do the 30-day shred part of my workout, and then make dinner.  On the menu I’ve got black bean burgers with spinach on top, kale chips, and sweet potato fries!  Wahoo for a great dinner that will be COMPLETELY eaten!  And I’m going to work on a product review I’m really excited about as well.  I think it’s going to be a good night 🙂

When you just don’t like something but it’s the only thing you have to eat, what do you do?  Eat it because you know you should?  Toss it because it’s not what you want to eat?  Do you ever just eat things for the nutritional value? I know I try not to force myself to eat anything, but today was a special case where everything else available was meat :/

I have a free subscription of Bon Apetit that I just need to activate. I need to do that NOW!

I try to throw something away if I don’t like it. Most of the time I eat it though. 🙁 I’m too frugal sometimes.

I always eat it because I can’t waste anything! I only buy EXACTLY what I plan to eat and no more or no less, I hate wasting food as to me it is like wasting $$$ and in this economy on my tight budget that isn’t an option. Though I have to admit I wish I could as in light of my tight budget I eat A LOT of the same things over and over again and it gets old sometimes. Typically, I don’t end up not liking things though as I don’t try new things often……

Nice Blog, just found it! =)

If I don’t like what I have to eat but that is all I have with me then typically I will just suck it up and eat it. But if I am at home and i don’t like the way something turns out I will definitely toss it and start over!

    De-lurking reader alert! 🙂

Honestly, Bon Ap is great…but take a look at Fine Cooking’s June/July issue – they totally jocked the idea from them. FC also has a classic/classic update department, and a lot of things in that Bon Ap issue disconcertingly imitated them. I’m considering unsubscribing, just because it’s really not as great a magazine as it used to be.

I do that all the time. I eat things because I am too lazy to get something else!

I usually don’t continue to eat something if I don’t like it. When I first started reading blogs, someone wrote how “food is just fuel for our bodies,” and I started viewing everything I ate like that. I made better choices (almonds over chips for a snack), but I lost my enjoyment of food. After a while of viewing food like that, I really began to think about how food, meals, and snacking are the center of my life. It’s okay to have food for enjoyment, but I know that I feel better after eating food with high nutritional value. I hope this made sense!

I’ve been known to eat things that I didn’t really enjoy for their nutritional value, and I find that in time they grow on you until you actually like them. However, I don’t think that salad would ever grow on you, and I only would have eaten it if I had been absolutely ravenous.

I don’t think I would have liked that salad either. Strawberries mixed with jalapenos doesn’t sound too appealing. lol

I’m a tosser. If something tastes terrible I’m not going to force myself. I tried butternut squash soup a few weeks back and hated it. Into the drain it went.

Mmm black bean burgers rule. Hope you enjoyed!

Haha I had a meal “fail” yesterday too. And I do eat things I don’t really love for the nutritional value or because I know it will keep me full. A good example of this is flaxseed – I don’t particularly like it but I need the Omega 3’s, so I eat it anyway.

Hope your dinner was more enjoyable 🙂

I try my best to not eat things I don’t like. But, sometimes, you have to if you are in a situation that you can’t get more food. When I got to work, I try to bring a couple of options that will stay good for a couple days in the fridge for just in case, though.

We so have the same taste buds I think! Your yogurt looks delicious. I will have to try that. And the green chili grilled cheese looks like a perfect lunch. I am a huge grilled cheese gal. What chilies do you use?

    Your dinner sounds awesome!!!
I hate it when that happens… when you are so looking forward to something but it’s not good. Usually I won’t eat it simply because I don’t think it’s worth it. Unless I’m just starving.

I usually toss food if it spoils, if I really hate it, or I am full and it can’t be re-heated. If I cook something and I’m not feeling it, I most likely will eat it. I try not to waste food, because I know that I do at times. But I think it is important to enjoy your food, no matter what nutritional value it holds.

Good luck on your HPJ challenge! I think it is a great idea!

haha thats a difficult question to ask….it all depends on my mood and how hungry I am. If I’m famished then i’ll probably just force it, but if I’m just hungry not starving I might have a few bites to hold me over, toss it, then wait till i can eat again

I am trying hard to not eat if I am not enjoying it – but if you ARE hungry and have no other options sometimes you just have to make the best of what you have. I would probably do what you did – eat, but not the whole thing, just enough to not be hungry.

    I love the HPJ idea!
