Today on the Influence Network we’re doing a fun little get-to-know-you thing, and I figured why not get involved! I mean, it’s not like you guys know every detail of my life (or do you?), so what’s 3 more things to share with the world?
ONE
My eyeliner? It’s tattooed on. I’ve shared this before, but I secretly feel like it makes me the most hard-core person in the world. I’ve always wanted to get a really amazing tattoo, but nothing has ever really stuck with me long enough to want it permanently etched on my body. Then I remember that my eyelids got tattooed – awesomeness restored 🙂 Wanna know the story? It’s not glorifying to the Lord at all, but basically when I was in college I was pretty lonely my first Freshman semester. I met a girl who just had her eyes done, so I figured why not? (p.s. I didn’t even wear eyeliner previously…for real). I called the salon she recommended only to find out that the lady was booked for 3 solid months! Apparently she was the best in the state and so women from all over Texas would travel to see her. I went ahead and made the appointment for October 31, 2002 and just went on living life. The day came, I showed up, and found out that I had to be 21 years old for permanent make-up…I was 19. So get this…she said (through a translator because she didn’t speak English) that she would do it if I paid cash and promised not to come back and sue her.
So I did. 20 minutes later I walked out of the salon with eyeliner FOREVAH (or, you know, til my skin regenerates enough that it fades). In case you’re wondering, they put a numbing topical ointment around the eyes that can’t get too close to the lashline, let it sit for a minute, wipe it off and then clamp your eyelid open with their hands while a tiny needle injects ink in a line. You keep A&D ointment on it and can’t wear make-up for 3 days afterwards, and then when the scab comes off it looks like your mascara is flaking…but it’s not because you can’t wear any.
And yes, I would do it again 🙂
TWO
I am a Hobbit and Lord of the Rings geek. While I can’t tell you the entire history of Middle Earth, and I can’t speak or read Elvish, I do know the stories like the back of my hand. It’s not something that my husband is particularly thrilled about because he only deigns to enjoy more “realistic” books…or no books at all. Whatever. I can and have cranked through those books in a matter of days and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
When the Lord of the Rings movies came out I would desperately wait on the lines to die down so I could see them in the theaters. Oh, I has SUCH the crush on Orlando Bloom as Legolas! It was always so great that they came out around Christmas time because I could go watch all 3 hours in the middle of the week and not have to worry about missing curfew or something.
I hope y’all still love me…
THREE
I like to eat macaroni and cheese with one noodle on each tine of each fork. Y’all know how much I love my mac and cheese, but regardless of the pasta shape I always put one individual piece of pasta on each individual tine of my fork. It makes for slower eating, which makes it last longer, which makes one happy mac and cheese devour-er.
Other facts I considered putting for #3: two of my favorite smells are baby scalps and puppy breath. I want to have a huge family. I don’t dress like I like fashion, but I do. I only really like Cabernet Sauvignon for wine, porters in beer, Cape Cods and margaritas (on the rocks, no salt) for mixed drinks. My favorite color is usually green or blue in hue, but yellows and oranges are considerably awesome as well.
I absolutely love the Influence Network, and while my membership is still new I have to tell you guys the biggest thing I’ve learned/loved about it so far is just meeting so many encouraging and loving grace-filled women. I’ve always said that one of my favorite things about this whole blogging gig is meeting the incredible people out there that I never would have met otherwise. Some of my dearest friends are women who live across the country and we’ve only ever hung out once or twice!
The great thing about the Influence Network is that it’s positively brimming with women who are so gifted in so many different areas and different ways, and they’re all so willing to share. It’s like a country filled with all of your best friends…you just can’t go wrong!
Thanks for letting me share with you guys today 🙂 And feel free to share any fun quirks below!
I like to eat my mac & cheese the exact same way! I also eat my skittles one color at a time. Except the green ones, I don’t like green skittles.
Great to meet you!
I eat my Skittles that way too, although I like all the flavors. Taste the rainbow 😉
Nice to meet you too hon!
OMG – the #1 makes me cringe. I can not have anyone touch my eyes or come close with anything related to tools close to my eyes. I can’t even put eye drops in my eyes, have never tried an eyelash curler yuck. I don’t know what i would do if i had to wear contact. So #1 – you are brave. I could not do that.
yay for an Influence food blog! Can’t wait to look around your site more!
Hey Becky! Isn’t Influence the best? 🙂
I don’t eat my mac ‘n cheese like you but I sure do love mac ‘n cheese! I’m glad you joined the network and can’t wait to hear your voice shine through!
I think as long as we’re both fans it doesn’t matter how we eat it 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Nadine!
I’ve thought about getting a tattoo – but same as you, there’s nothing I’ve really ever wanted permanently on my body – but I’m not sure I could ever get eyeliner tattooed on! I have a thing about eyes (so it’s a wonder I manage to get my contacts in every morning). But I think it’s awesome you did! Saves you all that time in the morning, that’s for sure.
Do you know Erin from Living in Yellow? Y’all need to talk mac and cheese. She loves it too!
I like fashion too but you would never know it from how I wear sweatpants and t-shirts as much as I can possibly help it.
Hey Annie! Sometimes I can’t believe I did it, but I’m so so so glad I did!
And thanks for pointing me to Erin’s blog as well…I can’t wait to check yours and hers out!
i am so excited to have met you today. I look forward to seeing you around the network more! your post made me giggle the whole way through! xoxo
So nice meeting you too Chrissy!
This is awesome!!!
1//I never knew you could get permanent makeup =)
2//The main reason this is awesome is because I also had a huge crush on Orlando Bloom as Legolas, noone understood why. Then when Pirates came out, everyone was totally all over that haha!!
3//Respect for you right now. I like mac and cheese and don’t think I could eat it one noodle at a time haha!!!
Glad to meet you friend!
Much Love!
I’m so glad to find another Legolas lover 🙂 You have good taste!
Girl. I do that with my mac n cheese too. Not the whole bowl but always at least for a few bites! So funny.
My cousin had eyeliner tattooed on too, probably around the same time you got yours done! The thought of doing it freaks me out but I do like the idea of not having to buy eyeliner or spend time doing that every day!
I think I spent $100 (including the tip) for my tattoo back then…let’s just say the cost per wear is pretty extraordinary 😉
So great to meet you! Crazy story about the eyeliner, I did not even know that was possible! A quirk for you. I can move my ears without touching them, haha.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t just try to move my ears and failed miserably 🙂
ah! Heather, my eyes are watering just reading through the tattoo process. you are a BRAVE, hard-core girl.
Haha thank you! It feels good to have that reaffirmed 🙂
Did you love the new Hobbit movie?!!? My husband and I saw it in the IMax and loved every bit of it! WE are huge LOTR fans as well as Harry Potter. Apparently we are super nerdy!
Sigh….I haven’t seen it yet! Every time we consider getting a babysitter and hitting up the movies we end up spending too long at dinner instead! I’m sure that I will absolutely adore it though!
🙂 It seems like everyone is either a Lord of the Rings person or a Harry Potter person, and I fall into the Harry Potter camp. I just never could get into the Lord of the Rings. However, we did see The Hobbit, and I liked it way more than I was expecting!
See, I really do like Harry Potter but Lord of the Rings is definitely my favorite as far as fantasy stories go. As much as I love the movies I have yet to see The Hobbit in theaters! I need to get my tookus in gear 🙂
SHOCKER. I love our opening “thing”. haha My jaw hit the floor (as it did on number three as I thought about what a great eating plan that is 😉 So nice to meet you today through the network!
So nice to meet you too Kerrie! I absolutely cannot wait to check out your blog…I can already tell we’re going to be friends 🙂
#1…woah. I’ve always said that eyeliner is the one makeup product I’d choose if I had to just pick one for the rest of my life. It transforms a sleepy/droopy face to an awake one in minutes. How awesome that you just wake up every morning with it already on! You’ve got balls though getting a tatoo! haha I don’t think I could ever do it. The belly button experience was enough for me. 🙂
I remember when I got my bellybutton pierced I was so scared! Definitely love the eyeliner though – I would recommend it if you’re ever feeling up to it!
