Well guys, National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is upon us! I am so excited to take Weston to our nearest drop-off location and start the box on its journey to a little boy somewhere in this great big world. I’m excited to sit down and pray with my husband and my son, once again, over the little boy who’s going to receive this. Not only that he’ll like the things we got him, but that God will move mightily in his life and that he would know that he is loved.
Just to recap the initial post, here’s how you can help serve the needs of a child somewhere in this world by building a box:
- Get a standard cardboard shoebox or a shoebox-sized plastic container. You don’t have to wrap it, but you certainly can!
- Decide if your gift is going to be for a boy or a girl. The age ranges are 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Print out the appropriate label and check the category!
- Fill the box with gifts – toys, school supplies, hygiene items, hard candy, gum, new clothes, etc. Add a personal note – if you leave your address the child may write back!
- Include a $7 donation to help cover the cost of shipping and other costs.
- Drop off at your closest collection center during the week of November 12-19, 2012.
- !!!IMPORTANT!!! If you don’t have time or you don’t have a collection center nearby you can also donate a box through the Build-a-Box program online! Perfect for deleting any excuse to not do this
And finally, to drop it off, just plug in your information to Operation Christmas Child’s location finder to find the one closest to you. Remember, if you don’t have one close by you can always mail it to them OR do the Build-a-Box program online!
I am so excited about this and I hope you guys are too. I’ll be honest, when I look at the box we built and think about the boy who’ll be receiving it I realize how much we have, how blessed I am, and how much joy I hope this little boy will have when he opens it.

My seven year old son and I did this together this weekend. We talked about how we can share God’s love with people a world away with something as simple as a shoebox filled with things. I asked him to draw a picture to include in the box. He drew Jesus on the cross and wrote “Jesus dide for are sins” (his spelling). He helped me put everything in the box and wrap it. We talked about how much the little boy who recieves it will enjoy the items in the box. On a side note, if you donate the $7 online you can print a tag with a barcode and you get to follow your box. My son cannot wait to find out where our box ends up.
Yay! I’m so excited to wrap our box this week and take it to church on Sunday for drop off. 🙂
