Defying Gravity

I’m a bit obsessed with GLEE these days.  And as much as I’m obsessed with GLEE, I’m even more so obsessed with that song!  It’s so inspirational.  But we’ll revisit in a bit 🙂

Yesterday’s breakfast was my classic Chocolate Peanut Butter Green Monster:

Heaven in a jar!  We were also surprised at work by our boss bringing in Great Harvest cinnamon rolls, so I took half of one:

Lunch was leftover General Tso’s chicken from Tuesday night, but since there was only a little bit I also had a 1/2 cup of yogurt with a ripe, buttery peach:

Y’all, peaches like that are what summer’s all about! I’m actually really really picky with my fruit, so it’s rare that I find a peach that’s good enough (food snob!) for me to fully enjoy, so I was beyond excited that this one was so good.  After a great run in the run we came home to get dinner ready for some new friends who were coming over to hang out.  I did a quick marinade for some grilled chicken breasts (apple cider vinegar, dijon mustard, olive oil, salt, pepper, basil, thyme, sage), grilled asparagus (I told Nate to just grill it plain, but looking back I would have used olive oil at the least), and my quick take on Jessica’s Cheesy Sweet Potato Crisps:

I didn’t have time to go to the store, so I used what we had on hand for these.  I used russet potatoes instead of sweet potatoes and sharp cheddar in lieu of Romano cheese.  They were really great!  I would highly recommend that you wring the water out of the potatoes BIG TIME, and having an ice cream scoop is a must.  They were delicious though 🙂

So, like I said, I am in LOVE with “Defying Gravity”…it’s one of the most inspirational songs I’ve heard in a long time (and yes, I know I’m really late for figuring that out :)).  With all of the stuff going on in my life and the uncertainty of the future, I am reminded in this song that conforming is failing to live MY life to the fullest:

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules
Of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes, and leap!

It’s time to try
Defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I am defying gravity
And you wont bring me down!

I’m through accepting limits
’cause someone says they’re so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I’ll never know!
Too long I’ve been afraid of
Losing love I guess I’ve lost
Well, if that’s love
It comes at much too high a cost!

I’d sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I’m defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
And you won’t bring me down!

Amazing, right?  I like the song so much I made it my ringtone 🙂

And so, today, I would challenge every single one of you to do as the over-used (but rightly so) quote from Eleanor Roosevelt:  Do something each day that scares you. Our lives are too short to not defy gravity!

What’s your pick for most motivational song? I’m thinking of making a CD… 😉

I seriously can’t get over how great your pictures are! What kind of camera do you have, if you don’t mind me asking?

Wicked is the most phenomenal Broadway show of all time. I’ve been in love with the entire soundtrack forever, and was so excited to see Defying Gravity on Glee! Love it. I saw Promises, Promises this spring simply because Kristin Chenoweth was starring in it!

Glee is possibly the greatest show I’ve ever followed. You should check out the whole soundtrack, totally worth your time. If we are sticking with Glee motivational songs it would be a tie between Don’t Rain on My Parade or Taking Chances.

I love Glee, I love Wicked, and I LOVE that song. I didn’t love it so much until I listened to the words, and then OH MY. I’m in the exact kind of mood today that I needed to see those words- thanks for sharing.

I love GLEEEE!! Love that song, too! (I think you just got it stuck in my head!) 😉

So jealous of those Great Harvest cinnamon rolls! Unfortunately, we don’t have Great Harvest in my area, but when I visit my parents I always have to stop by their local store for bread samples!! (their brioche bread is truly to DIE for!)

Okay, so I haven’t seen Glee (not even once), but this song is beautiful and if its an indication of how great the show is, you can count me as a new viewer.

My current inspirational song is “The House That Built Me” by Miranda Lambert. It doesn’t get me all pumped up while running or anything, but it reminds me to look at my past and see how far I’ve come and what I’ve accomplished. It reminds me that all of this has happened because I have a strong family backbone.

Those sweet potatoe cheesey crisp things look so good!!!! Gosh, I woudl eat the entire batch, haha.

My inspirational song is “Don’t Stop Believing” from Glee. It is just so upbeat and it gets me revved up every time that I hear it. Love it!!

By the way, I know that you are a Glee fan and I don’t know if you liked Jesse or not but I just read that he is coming back for a few episodes next season!! Needless to say, I am excited, haha. I just had to share this news with other Gleeks like myself 😀

Love Wicked, and love that song!!!

Right now I’ve been really into Chris Tomlin’s worship songs. Not exactly “motivational,” but belting out some praise music always encourages me to stop worrying about the little stuff and focus on living the life God wants me to.

Motivational song for me: “It’s Amazing” by Jem. You might’ve heard it on the first Sex and the City movie…it’s such a great song and gets me going every time! One of my favorite parts:

And you’ll see, cause if it’s meant to be
Nothing can compare to deserving your dreams

    Love it!

I’m pretty sure I’m the only person on earth who hasn’t watched Glee. But what a great song!

As odd as it sounds, the song that really gets me motivated is the Rocky theme song. It just gets my blood pumping and I honestly feel like I could do anything!

LOVE Glee! I can’t wait for it to come back on. And what a great song. Right now my most inspiring song is still Our God by Chris Tomlin. Love, love, love it.

Fruit is the best thing about summer. I’m ready for fall so I don’t have to deal with the heat anymore and can get outside more without dying. But I’m going to miss all the super fresh fruit.

Okay, when I was training for my half marathon, I got into really cheesy inspirational songs like Chariots of Fire and different songs from the Olympics, and I swear, every time I heard Gloria Estefan’s “Reach,” I would get a surge of energy! Ha! It’s such a cheesy song, but very inspirational!

I love, love, love the Glee version of “Defying Gravity”!
