Holy cow, 4 weeks ago I was still pregnant. And now I'm not. Now our little nugget is 4 weeks old and growing like crazy! First of all, let me say that your sweet comments and encouragement on the blog, Twitter and Facebook really make me feel so loved and supported. Being a new mom is hard work and just knowing that there are friends out there cheering us on makes me so happy! Especially when I've seen this face more often than not lately: Yes, it's true...little Wes has ... continue reading...
Spicy Garlic Hummus
You guys. I have the SADDEST STORY EVER to tell you. I love hummus. Love the flavor, the texture, the versatility and the fact that it's a dip which basically means unlimited baby carrots and pita chips for yours truly. BUT. And this is a big BUT. I can't eat it right now because chickpeas (along with beans of all kinds, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and any other manner of food that I normally love to eat) make Wes's tummy hurt. And I love ... continue reading...
Love Grown Giveaway – Spring Love Edition
I'm a snacking machine these days. Meals? I mean, I hardly remember what those are. Kind of like I barely remember what showering is. Or long hot baths. Or normal clothes. My life revolves around 5-minute shower rinses, unshaved legs and workout apparel (even though I'm not working out). Oh, and snacks. So I want to share the snacking love with you guys by giving away some delicious Love Grown Foods granola! I figure it's spring and who couldn't use some ... continue reading...
Blog Love: Buckwheat Bakes
This has been a long time coming. You know when you see a recipe from a blog and you think, "THAT BLOGGER IS A GENIUS! I'm going to have to make that ASAP..." and then you don't for the looooooooooongest time because let's face it: life gets in the way? No? Just me? I know I can't be alone on this one... But regardless, I have been meaning to make Ashley's Buckwheat Bakes for the longest time. I even went out and purchased buckwheat, a move I would ... continue reading...
Cast Iron Onion Pizza
When it comes to onions I pretty much can't get enough, which kind of makes me smile because years ago? Years ago I would have told you to GET THAT ONION CRAP OUT OF MY FACE IT MIGHT KILL ME or some other dramatic sentiment. But thank goodness that was years ago and I happen to have finally come to my senses. Isn't it funny how we'll swear up and down forever and ever amen that we abhor something...only to find out later that it's actually one of our favorites? Well, I think it's ... continue reading...
Week 3: The Art of Being Humbled
I wrote a short little 'update' the other day talking about all of the things that being a parent has taught me so far. I think that something in the recesses of my mind I figured that if I wrote a post about how much I've learned and how my baby boy is teaching me and so on and so forth that it would instigate some sort of good karma and I'd have nothing but smooth sailing the rest of the week. Or month. Or year! But you know what? I think this guy had other plans... First ... continue reading...
Karina Dresses – Maternity Style & Beyond
You guys remember that one time when I spent a weekend in San Francisco with a ton of incredible food bloggers at the Foodbuzz Festival? Me too. It was an incredible weekend! [photo from A Foodie Stays Fit] While I was there I was about 28 weeks pregnant, which loosely translated means that I looked sort of pregnant if you squint your eyes juuuuuuuuuust right and spin around 3 times. Either pregnant or just overweight. You know, whatever...but regardless, it's a crucial time during ... continue reading...
Valencia Orange Glazed Sweet Potatoes
Did y'all know it's Friday? Oh? You did? GOOD! See yesterday I had that thing happen that no one likes, everyone dreads, and it kills the dreams of those it happens to. I thought it was Friday. But 'twas Thursday instead. Sigh. Is there ever a letdown that is so gigantic as the moment that you realize you're still a day away from the weekend? Me and my sources would agree that there is not, in fact, a greater momentary letdown than that. Who cares if so far ... continue reading...
Sweet Potato Goat Cheese Tater Tots
HOLY GOODNESS. Y'all. Really. Need. To. Make. These. Now. I'm going to be honest here: making my own tater tots kind of freaked me out big time. See, I don't know why but in the same way that I'm unreasonably terrified of baking with yeast, I'm almost equally as scared to do something unfamiliar with potatoes. Why? I have no idea, although part of me thinks that since moving to Colorado the altitude has messed with me. Things that used to be easy like baking chocolate chip ... continue reading...
Learning to Let Go
Thanks to this little man I'm learning to let go. Learning to let go of rules, because babies don't play by rules. Learning to let go of schedules because newborns don't know what a schedule is. Learning to let go of my neat-freak-psycho-organization side. Because there's no time for that when you're snuggling a baby. Learning to let go of sleep. Enough said. Learning to let go of over-the-top cleanliness. Keep everything sanitary and ... continue reading...
Vegan Oatmeal Pecan Cookies
When it comes to cooking and baking you guys know by now that I'm not shy about my love for butter, cheese, bacon and otherwise all things delicious. It's true: I'm not vegan, nor do I ever plan on becoming that way. That being said, besides the utter lack of eggs and butter in our house (someone forgot to go to the store...oops) I do believe that cooking is fun and trying different things is just one of the many ways to enjoy it. Take vegan baking for example - I can't even pretend to ... continue reading...
Week 2 – Hanging in There
Weston is a whopping 2 weeks old today and my brain can scarcely believe it. How is it that just 13 days ago he was still living in my belly? That's the craziest thing about pregnancy and childbirth to me thus far - one day you're pregnant and the next you're not. And BAM! There's a living breathing miniature human being that you get to look after, snuggle, and shower with kisses. I've had so much fun, cried so many times, and learned how to change a diaper without getting peed ... continue reading...
