Morning everyone! Hope Monday’s treating you well 🙂 I feel almost 100% better, so I’m super-thankful for that! I can be introduced into civilization again!
Yesterday after church we went to eat at Einstein’s Bagels for lunch. I got one of their new “under 400 calorie” meals! It came with a side, so I had a small Caesar salad:
And the “main course” was the Ancho Chicken Wedge. It had a TON of flavor and was a great size; however, it was a little pricey for what I did get though. Still super flavorful though!
After lunch I got to talk to my parents for a bit, and then I decided to use a coupon for New York & Company that Stephanie gave me the other day. I’ve been wanting to buy more “adult” clothes (as in nicer shirts and pants rather than jeans and a T-shirt all the time), and have been putting it off til I lose some more weight. I was reminded, though, that life doesn’t start when you want it to: LIFE IS HAPPENING NOW. I ended up getting about $200 worth of clothes for $75, which I was pretty stoked about!
When I got home I decided to make a knock-off version of this pasta recipe with what I had on hand. My version still has leeks, but instead of radicchio I used broccoli slaw, and instead of 6 oz of fontina I used 3 oz of brie and 3 oz of ricotta.
We paired it with a simple pork chop:
And it was the perfect meal! Our portions were smaller than normal, so we have lots of leftovers for lunch this week too 🙂
For dessert we decided to take advantage of the last day of the Dairy Queen “buy one, get one for 25 cents” promo. We don’t eat at DQ very often (think twice a year), so I was OK with getting something there! Please excuse the iPhone photo, I forgot y camera!
Mine was caramel and brownie pieces. YUM! We rented New York, I Love You at Blockbuster for a cozy evening in. We weren’t sure what to expect, and were kind of weirded out about the movie because nothing seemed to fit together. It just seemed like a ton of open-ended stories and not much else. Afterwards we discovered that the whole movie is supposed to be just a series of short films that just had to be about finding love in New York. Thing is, I’ve never been to New York, and although I really want to go, I just don’t have the same appreciation for it that a lot of other people do. It was hard to get to sleep because I was coughing so much, but once I did I was OUT!
This morning I woke up and did yoga for the first time in a LONG time. It felt so good to finally stretch out! Breakfast was a Yoplait Greek yogurt (not my fave, but it was all they had at the store) with some of my homemade granola (oats, pecans, coconut, chia seeds, dried cranberries).
Such a great combo! I was really hoping for a Green Monster, but we were in a rush since I took a little too long showering 🙂 Oops!
Like I said, today is my first day back at work since being knocked on my butt from sickness last week. It just feels so good to be back in a routine! Although I think the goal is to eventually either work for myself or have a job that allows me to work from home when I want or need to, it is great to be back around my friends at work 🙂
If you could work from home/for yourself, how would you do it? I think I would probably still get up around 6 like I normally do, but I would do my full workout, shower, eat, and THEN start working around 10. I would also probably have to take breaks to go to the store, clean, do laundry, and do a little more work into the evenings if need be 🙂
Or, if you already do work from home/for yourself, how do you schedule your day? And more importantly how did you get to do that? 🙂

I went to NYC for the first time last year. It was fun and I had a great time, but I guess I just expected, I don’t know, something bigger? If that’s possible. Having spent a lot of time in DC, San Fran, Chicago, LA – it just was another big city! Yes, it has it’s own unique districts and landmarks that I enjoyed seeing. Shopping on 5th Ave – amazing! I don’t want to make any NYC fans mad because it really was an awesome experience, but somehow in my mind it was not what I had expected. It didn’t quite have the WOW and all the glamor of Sex in the City DVDs I had hoped.

Yay! You get to go back to work! If I worked from home I would only work at night (b/c I don’t do anything at night really) so I’d have the whole day to do whateverr.

Wow, that pasta looks delicious!! 🙂
I’m definitely not someone who could work from home. Sometimes I do feel it would be more flexible but I’d miss the people. Home alone working all day? not for me, I love my colleagues!

I don’t do well working from home. Probably because we only have a one bedroom. Too much temptation. I would prefer to sleep until like 7 or 8, workout, and fit in my 8 hours around other activities. I would have to stop around 5 though or else I’d feel overworked…
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Glad you are feeling a bit better! I think I would treat my days the same way.
Mmmm the DQ blizzard looks really really good!!
Jocelyn @ Peace.Love.Nutrition says
Omg I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to own my own business one day so I could chose my hours and work from home.
My perfect day would consist of:
Waking up at 9- going to Yoga at 9:30 and starting work at 11!! haha
Gracie @ Girl Meets Health says
Oh my, I’ve been seeing DQ Blizzards just about everywhere lately! Clearly I need to jump on this trend. Your pasta + pork chop dinner looks delicious too!
I don’t work from home every day, but my job does allow it. I generally work from home 1-2 days a week (I did today :)). It definitely has its perks, like wearing PJs all day and having access to my own kitchen. But I think I’d get sick of doing it EVERY day. Going to the office gives me a chance to get out of the house, which I think is an important practice for a home-body like me, haha.

My dream is to work from home or work for myself. I made the first step by resigning from my job, now I just need a plan!
Glad you hear you are better!!

Hoooray for buying clothes that fit NOW!
I would LOVE to work from home and hopefully once I finish my health counselor training, I will be able to. I think I would do just what you said but add in writing my blog and reading blogs first 😀

Glad to hear you’re feeling better! And three cheers for your trip to New York and Company (LOVE that store and LOVE their coupons!). I am a firm believer in dressing your body in a way that makes you feel confident RIGHT NOW. Not always easy, but I definitely think it’s worth it! 🙂

Hiiiii,
OMG I LOOOOVE DQ! Like you, I don’t go often but when I do it’s outta this world! My favorite is the oreo blizzard sans chocolate sauce (I like the vanilla plus cookies only). Sooo good! LOL now I’m totally craving ice cream!
I dont’ think I’d work from home unless I had young kids. Nothing against it, I’m just very easily distracted and I think I’d be fired within the first week! LOL Also, doing experiments at home probably isn’t the smartest choice 😉

Man I would LOVE to work from home! I would probably keep a similar schedule to what I have now, but work out in the morning instead of after work to get my day started on the right foot.

My husband works from home. He gets up at 6:00 and starts his day as if he is going into an office outside of home. The great thing is he can work in his jeans or summer shorts! He takes a mid morning break, lunch break and sometimes a 15 minute break in the afternoon just to clear his head.

I work from home and I still get up at 5:00 to workout and then I have client usually starting by 8:30…I make my own schedule and so it is nice to be able to dictate my own day! 🙂

I worked from home for about a year, and I loved it. If I could do it again, I definitely would. The only bad thing about it for me was that it was kind of lonely. Nobody to talk to except the cat. For a while there, I was actually talking out loud to myself. More than usual, that is. 🙂

I go back and foth.. sometimes I think it would be great if I worked at home and sometimes I think.. I rather not work at home… it is a hard balance..
cardiopizza says
I got myself a blizzard yesterday too…I wish they had that deal all of the time 🙂
Tina says
I had the same blizzard last night for the 25 cent deal. It was good. 🙂 And I am jealous of your shopping. I love NY&Co clothes and you got some awesome deals. Great thinking on not waiting to buy them too.
My schedule is to have some quiet time, get breakfast, and get my workout in then move on with the rest of the day. I love having a flexible schedule by “working” from home as a stay at home mom. I hope I can always keep this sort of flexibility with whatever work I end up doing in the future.

Working at home would be so awesome. I stay home now but no money 🙁
I am glad you’re feeling better!

So glad you’re feeling better!!!
I work from home a lot, except for the days that I teach on campus (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-6:30), and my home days are really nice. I still get up at 6:30 or 7, but I get to do a workout, enjoy a nice leisurely breakfast, read blogs, and enjoy a lot of DOG time before I start my real work for the day. 🙂 I know the dogs like having me home as well, as funny as that sounds.
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
We have a DQ literally on one street up from us – it is dangerous!
Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle says
Working from home would be so nice sometimes, and I do get very annoyed with how loud it can get in the office (some people’s voices are just LOUD)… but I enjoy seeing people everyday. If I worked at home I’d get so lonely!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
Pumpkin pie is my favourite blizzard. Or banana cream pie if they don’t put whipped cream on top.
Erica Sara says
I get to work from home some days & love it! On those days, I wake up the same time but take a nice relaxing shower, and then enjoy a cup of coffee & some breakfast on my sofa before I start work… much different that my usual rushed mornings.

I would love to find a job and work at home..currently looking for something like that now. lol I love Dairy Queen, great treat.

I love pork, but I get so bored with it. I’m always looking for new and exciting recipes for it. The pasta looks awesome. And now I want Dairy Queen. Thanks! LOL
