Smoothie Staples, Lately

This list of smoothie staples, and recipe for an almond-chocolate-blueberry smoothie, shares all the ingredients that go into making a protein smoothie. @heathersdish

As of late I’ve really been working on fitting a smoothie into my day for the sole purpose of injecting a whole lot of good stuff in as little time as possible. Through the years I’ve had my share of smoothie recipes (just type “smoothie” into the search bar on here to see!), but this is probably my longest running one and for good reason: it tastes great, the ingredients are great, and I feel good after drinking it.

What’s not to love, right?

For the longest time I was very anti-protein powder because everything I tried was either packed with gross stuff or tasted gross to begin with. I didn’t love whey powders, and a few vegan ones really left a bad and chalky taste in my mouth. I was THISCLOSE to trying Shakeology, which has good and bad reviews from all over, but before I did a friend recommended I check out Vega. You guys, this post is in no way sponsored by them and they have no clue who I am. But their chocolate protein powders are legit and I looooove them!

Here’s the seller for me: each scoop has 2 servings of veggies already. If you’re like me and toss in some spinach from time to time you can bump that up to 3-4 servings per smoothie. And it tastes like chocolate!

Another thing that I add is a scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, which is a go-to around here for any smoothie or anything that needs a little extra protein in it. They seriously mix into anything and everything without a trace, and the collagen has done some good things for my gut health and the way my hair and skin feel.

I love the consistency of almond milk and don’t love using anything else in my smoothies. I feel like cow’s milk makes them too frothy, and water is just not as tasty. That almond milk is a great balance!

Finally, I always add a nut butter. I tried for a while to do the powdered peanut butter thing to save on calories, but it just wasn’t doing the trick. My smoothies weren’t turning out creamy and rich, they just felt chalky to me. The almond or peanut butter really does the trick to keep it creamy!

After months of perfecting it, here’s my everyday smoothie recipe that I use to fill up my body with good things and energy to chase these crazy boys!

MY EVERYDAY PROTEIN SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
