Today has been a totally ordinary day. Oh, except for the fact that there are several feet of snow in the forcast in, I don’t know, the next couple of hours. No big deal! That’s normal, right? I guess that’s what I get for packing up almost 2 years ago (what? how long ago? when? who am I?) and moving to Colorado!
Let’s time out for just a moment on the normal blogging thing: I moved to Colorado 2 years ago. Well, Nate and I did that together, it’s not as though I picked up and moved and he followed later 🙂 There are a lot of people we knew who talked about moving out here at the same time, but out of several hundred people, we were the only ones who followed through! I’m not sure if that makes us crazy or really awesome, but I’d like to think it’s the latter 😉
Anyway, sorry for the aside. I just can’t believe it’s been 2 years! Lunch today was fabulous and perfect for a rainy potentially snowy day (did I mention I am wearing flip-flops and don’t have a change of shoes…?) I made Bob’s Red Mill Vegi Soup last night:
This soup mix has green split peas, yellow split peas, barley, lentils and vegetable pasta, but no spices. I mixed mine with chicken broth, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Seriously, this is an AMAZING soup mix!
I paired it with a sandwich with half a slice of wheat bread, a slice of pepperjack, some bbq sauce, and the last of some steak strips:
‘Twas a fabulous lunch! I then found out that my doctor’s appointment (don’t worry, just a routine girly check-up) was at 3 and not 3:30, so I freaked out for about 3 minutes and then got it together. Nate kept teasing me with text messages all afternoon about how he had a surprise for me! Oh my, another puppy? No, he wouldn’t do that 🙂 He met me outside of work while I was leaving and gave me this:
Have I mentioned that I have the best husband in the world? I’m pretty sure I have, but if not, there you go! I’ve been wanting this book for months now, and on a whim he bought it for me 🙂 As I drove away I told him to not be surprised if he came home to me reading it obsessively…
Tonight we’ll be celebrating our friend Robbie’s birthday! I made a red earth cake and I can’t wait to share it with y’all tomorrow! We were going to grill out but apparently it’s a little chilly to do so…I mean really though, who doesn’t grill out in the snow? What? You mean that’s not normal? Oh well… 🙂
This is sort of random, but I want to know: what are 5 of your top life goals? Have you reached them yet? They don’t have to be in any particular order, just things that you’d like to share 🙂 Here are mine:
- Backpack through Europe
- Have babies (4, right Nate?! :))
- Write a book
- Become a REAL professional photographer
- Be completely and totally happy with myself!
Your husband is a sweetheart!
Lige goals, thats a tough one… but:
– travel the world, preferably twice 😉
– build a career I have always dreamed of
-live a long and happy life
– live abroad with my awesome boyfriend
-consider having a family after I’ve grown up 😀
that book is on my want list! :O)
I’m actually glad you asked this life goal question, because it’s about time I start to really work on making them happen. I do have say so in the matter after all 🙂 In no particular order..
1. Be a mother
2. Write a book
3. Speak at women’s conferences
4. Travel with my husband to biblical cities overseas
5. Help bring people to the Lord.
Oh and I have to throw a #6 in there: run a marathon and/or triathlon.
#5 is a great goal.
Love the pioneer woman – what an inspiration! Maybe you could review some of her recipes on here! 🙂
Ah, life goals. Just five!? :-p
1. Put more faith in God, instead of relying on human strength all the time.
2. Become an inspirational person who influences others to reach their best potential (through writing and mentoring relationships).
3. Travel and read to become more well-versed in myriad cultural topics, and write well about them!
4. I’ll have to agree with your photography goal – I’d love to become a pro one day!
5. Learn how to manage my time better and make fitness a routine in my life (when will the day come when I don’t have to PUSH myself to go to the gym!?)
Oh cool! I’ve never seen that veggie soup mix–I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it!
Ahhh that’s really hard! :/ My 1st one was to quit smoking and I’ve done that!
Snow…really?! WOW!
Life Goals:
1. Run NYC and Boston
2. Open my own business
3. Travel to South Africa
4. Write a book
5. Live in the NOW
I can’t believe it is snowing in May for you! I wouldn’t stand that. But I’m a Southern girl through and through.
I love the goals list. I would have to say I only have one major life goal and that is to become the person God created me to be and pursue where He leads me in life. But to list more specific things I hope are included in that would be:
1. Become a personal trainer.
2. Be the best mother to my children and raise them to be loving individuals with healthy, thriving lives.
3. Write a book. I don’t talk about it really at all on the blog, but it is a goal and I’ve already started the brainstorming work. I just want more credibility and to break more into other writing before I pursue it fully.
4. Never stop working on my marriage so we can grow old and grey together.
5. Help bring others to Christ.
My life goals are:
1. honor myself and my body first, always
2. be present
3. help people heal their relationships with food
4. write books (and blogs :D)
5. make beautiful jewelry
Backpacking through Europe is awesome, you must do it when life offers the opportunity 🙂
my life goals are…
1. run a marathon (cliche but still). May 2011.
2. see the world. I have been to almost 20 countries and most of the US but still feel like there is SO much out there to see!!! The more you travel the more you realize there is and that you won´t ever get to do it all 🙂
3. get paid to write and travel, about international development, politics, sustainable travel, and/or food
4. be happy.
5. learn how to completely remove all calories from chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.
Ive been wanting to try that soup mix – glad to know its good.
As for my life goals I havent met any of them quite yet but thats alright.
1. Become a teacher
2. Get married and have kids
3. Write a book (too bad I have no real talent for writing)
that soup and sandwich look so yummy!!
1. Travel abroad (Spain, Puerto Rico, Greece, etc.)
2. Go Pro on the AVP tour
3. Move to Austin (or Manhattan Beach)
4. Become a R.D.
5. Fitness Model
Nothing like soup on a cold/rainy/snowy day. It always seems to make everything better.
I need to try that veggie soup mix. I live really close to Bob’s Red Mill and still haven’t gone there yet. (I know, I know) Colorado sounds like a really cool place to live. It’s so hard to pinpoint my top 5 life goals. I’d have to say:
1. Be the best daughter/sister/girlfriend (wifey someday)/friend that I can be
2. Have a job where I can vacation for 2-4 weeks on Maui each year
3. Help others create and reach healthy goals
4. Have a career that I love
5. Truly appreciate each day and live life to it’s fullest
That last one sounds kinda corny, but sometimes I forget to do that.
Have a great night!
I so miss CO! We always talk @ moving back. Seeing Pikes Peak every day again would bring me tears of joy 🙂
OK-top 5 you ask?
1-go back to school and get a degree in nutrition (hopefully this fall!!)
2-travel to Greece
3-write a book
4-get my wisdom teeth pulled (silly I know, but it scares the crap outta me)
5-finish working on my family tree and find out more @ my paternal great grandpa. Pretty sure he was a slave in Louisiana in the 1800s. I’m working on this research now!
So jealous! I want that book too! And my five things are close to yours:
1. be a mom (even if it is not biological)
2. become a better photographer
3. lose weight and get my fitness back
4. watch my hubby at the olympics
5. travel!
Just five?! How do I decide? 🙂
1. Run a half marathon
2. Get married to the love of my life (is he ever going to propose? :))
3. Have babies.
4. Travel throughout Europe
5. Hike the Grand Canyon.
Oooh, I want that book!!!
Congrats on two years in Colorado!
OH wow, WHAT a sweet husband you have!!! There are few men like that in our world 🙂
Colorado sounds.. interesting haha snow! Crazy! And I thought it was bad here because it was in the 50’s today!! Yikes…
Red earth cake? Sounds intriguing! Is that different than red velvet?
And holy YUM does that soup sound good!
