What could be more all-encompassing than the fact that I’m a woman? I mean, it’s the underlying reason behind being a wife, mother, daughter and sister, and yet just being the gender I am has taught me so much. I can’t really put it all into words, but here’s hoping that I can get some of it out there!
- BEAUTY. If I had a dollar for all the times I worried about being beautiful enough, beautiful at all, or just trying to make myself beautiful – well, I’d be one wealthy woman. The thing I’ve come to see though is this: just being a woman is beautiful in and of itself. The spirit of femininity is beautiful, and I’m fully convinced that women – all of us – are basically super heroes. We are. Don’t forget it.
- BRAINS. Being a smart woman is even more important than feeling beautiful if you ask me. There are so many things we can do to ourselves to look a certain way, but having beautiful minds is something that will never fade.
- BRAWN. Strength is beauty. Never think, as I did for way too long, that it isn’t. I rejoice in the fact that I have muscles, and I’ve worked hard for them. I would never change a thing about them.
- HEART. There’s something unbelievably beautiful and incredibly sexy about a woman who lives with her heart open. I’m not saying hand out a piece of that precious heart to anyone and everyone, but living in a spirit of fear – being afraid to share who you are – there’s no life there. Living means taking a chance, and if I’ve learned anything it’s that opening up and sharing my heart has breathed life MY life.
- GRACIOUSNESS. Kindness. Mercy. Humble. Loving. All humans are gifted with these things – let’s live our lives filled with them!
It’s been quite some time since I last visited the blogging world. I was on my dear friend’s blog tonight and saw your picture and realized you didn’t have your cute orange cap on anymore! I don’t think it was coincidence that I stumbled over your name tonight as your post was simple yet powerful in truth and grace. Love it!
Beautiful thoughts from a beautiful person. I am so proud of you and all that you are. And, as you know, I love you a whole, whole lot! Mom
I love you too Mommy 🙂
Amen! I especially loved what you say about strength being beauty.
Beautiful post! 🙂
so sweet, and well said. Thank you for the reminder…as I sit here surrounded by testosterone! 🙂
aloha my friend!
I have a very happy feeling that one day I will be just as surrounded my testosterone – we have to remember how much fun it is to be a woman! 🙂
Such a gorgeous post! I’ve been reading for a while, but had to chime in on this one. I just read through the book Captivating by John and Staci Eldredge and fell so in love with the concept of femininity and how we are just beautiful as women by nature. You should definitely check it out if you havent yet!
I feel like I’ve heard of it and just haven’t read it yet – I’ll check it out!
Heather – I am Terilyn’s friend from afoodstaysfit.com and I have followed your blog over the years. You are such a beautiful person inside and out and it has been such a joy watching you and your family blossom. Thank you so much for sharing and reminding us all of what really matters!
Sarah
Thank you so so so much for your sweet comment Sarah! I may have (OK I definitely did) tear up 🙂
This is such a great list, and, I agree, brains is so much more important than beauty.
