Top 25 Things I’m Stoked About for Summer

Forgive me guys, for I know exactly what I do.  I’m skipping over the gloriousness of Spring in Colorado (which is mostly nice…I’m not a fan of the freak snowstorms in May and whatnot) and getting right to summer.  See, last year I had just found out I was pregnant and suffered through the summer feeling nauseated and gross and everything smelled weird.

I’d like to take this time to apologize to Nate and my dogs and for telling them they all smelled funny even after taking showers/baths/brushing teeth.  It wasn’t you.  It was me.

Anyway, as we work our way through a typical Colorado winter where it snows one day and is about 65 degrees and sunny the next, I can’t help but think that this summer, THIS SUMMER, is going to rock my face off.  Here’s why:

  1. Blond arm hairs.
  2. Watch tan lines.
  3. Paddle boarding.
  4. Hiking.
  5. Taking the dogs to the dog park and watching them swim.
  6. Walks with the baby.
  7. Picking up running again.
  8. Traveling.
  9. Guacamole and chips.
  10. Rooftop patio happy hours.
  11. Margaritas.  Frozen or on the rocks, I don’t care.  No salt please.
  12. Iced coffee.
  13. Strawberries.
  14. Grilling outside.
  15. Gardening (????).  I don’t know why (probably nesting) but I feel the overwhelming urge to fix up our yard this year.
  16. Pool parties.
  17. Sleeping with the windows open.
  18. Shorts and tank tops.
  19. Cheeseburgers.
  20. Freshly grilled fajitas.
  21. The sun staying up until 9pm.
  22. Summer music.  You know, the kind that always makes you look back and say, “Man, the summer of ____ was where it was AT!”
  23. Farmer’s markets.
  24. Sweet tea.
  25. Big fat salads loaded with summer veggies.

Nate just came and said that this was a long list…maybe a little TOO long.  But you know what?  I think it’s just right since I could go for at least another 25 more things that I’m stoked about for the summertime.

So what about you?  What grills your burger when it comes to summer?  What makes you happy?  What are you stoked for?!

I’m mostly excited about summer because it will mean I’ll finally have my Bachelor’s degree!! That, in turn, means I get to finally be home with my husband for longer than 3 months! WOOT!

Oh, and also farmer’s markets, finally getting around to all the household stuff I’ve been neglecting being in school — like planting my veggie garden, fixing up the sun porch, organizing the closets, etc. — SWIMMING, tan lines, finally being able to fit into my bikinis again (I’m down 7 sizes already!), homemade lemonade, running in the least amount of clothes possible/acceptable…

Hmm… Maybe I should just write my own list. Haha!

I loved this post; it made me smile. I can’t wait until its summer and I don’t have to worry about school or exams or tests or homework anymore.

Oh you’ve made me feel so excited about the summer, and I was just looking forward to spring! Your post is lovely, it’s a brilliant list of all things summer 🙂 I’m just looking forward to actually having plenty of time to spend with my boyfriend as well as the sun, the gorgeous summer fruits, the activities you can do when it’s warmer, the laid back atmosphere… 🙂

Summer? I’m just hoping we make it through winter. 🙂 I love the fall and winter months and could honestly do without summer. Do I sound grumpy or what? I just don’t like the humid heat. I do, however, love fresh fruit so I guess there’s always that…

What a great post! We haven’t really had much of winter here, so I guess summer is just around the corner! 🙂

Your list just made me literally ache for summer! I think I’ve got warm weather fever today because the sun is actually shining in Chicago today (whhhaa? that doesn’t happen here!) and I’m tempted to grill something tonight, even though it’s only ~30 degrees outside. Those burgers? Yes, please.

Love your list! But it sort of makes me nostalgic and perhaps a bit sad that summer’s now aren’t like they used to be. Meaning, no summer break from university to look forward to. Being an adult with a real job is rough. 😉

So much of what you wrote here is exciting to me. Specifically- hiking, walks with the baby, grilling, strawberries, farmers markets, the clothes…and everything just feels a little free-er, you know?

Having it take 3 minutes to throw on running clothes (shorts, top, sunglasses, shoes…go)…instead of taking half an hour to put on tights, long sleeves, jacket, beanie, gloves, gator…..and so on!

#22, definitely. There’s always that 1 song that epitomizes the summer. Music probably has the most nostalgic effect on me, even more so than food. Gasp!
Also looking forward to flip flops, sun, fresh herbs on my front steps, Greece! (we’re going this summer) and a tan.

Ahh, this makes me wish summer was just around the corner!! I can’t wait for being home with my family again and enjoying the local farmer’s market, my dad’s grilling (he makes the BEST catfish and bbq pork chops!), badminton in the back yard, afternoons at the pool. And skin that isn’t all dry and flaky–definitely looking forward to that!
