First of all, we’ll get to the fact that the above pictures are basically just mirror images of one another. But first…
If you read my post about purging that big scary closet then you know that I love having things in their proper place. I also am a big fan of rearranging rooms, not to a fault, but I am always OK with a little refreshing.
HOWEVER.
When I made this list of things to do with my 31 days I had every intention of rearranging our living room. It’s a big space with lots of possibilities and I just KNEW that I could bring forth something magical if only I took a few minutes to move all of the things around.
Then I realized that the light comes into the room in a certain way that the TV would be totally unwatchable (maybe not always a bad thing…) PLUS the fact that I wouldn’t be able to figure out the AT&T apparatus post-rearranging. Oh, and also the fact that I really didn’t want to get way too involved this time around because what I really need to be doing is purging the heck out of our house and wiping up the obscene amount of dust caused by 2 huge labs and a baby.
After I evaluated all of the rooms in our house, I finally decided to rearrange our guest room. Mostly because the furniture is light and easy, but also because I have noticed that the sun streams through the window right onto the guest bed first thing in the mornings. That can’t be great for sleeping, right?
The way that room is set up and with the furniture we have I didn’t really have a lot of options, so basically what I ended up doing was a great big flip-flop of the room. Not too hard, but not super easy either when you have said dogs and toddler all in there at the same time. Honestly though I had the best time watching Wes; he had a screwdriver handle (not the sharp pointy parts, just the handle) and if I was hammering something, then so was he. I realized that maybe I should make sure I’m doing stuff well when he’s around because clearly he is ALWAYS watching.
I love it.
So what does this all have to do with boldness? Well, initially I would have been taking some big chances on our living room rearrangement so I figured that would be a bold homemaking move on my part. But with the guest room I can’t really say that it was a BOLD choice, but rather just a need to make our guests more comfortable. And you know what? I say that’s OK, because sometimes just doing what needs to be done and not going above and beyond – sometimes that’s all you need. Sometimes that’s all I need. And this time around just a small change went miles and miles in refreshing this tired mom.
So what about you guys? Are you rearrangers? Or do you just like to leave well enough alone?

Looks like Weston is busy with finishing touches in the corner. I understand the rearranging thing–there are just times you get the “itch” to do that and when finished it all seems so much fresher–probably because when you move furniture you have to clean everything that was hiding under or behind it. LOL

Exactly! That room was a lot dustier than I thought :/ Oops!!!

I love the green sippy cup in the chair! And I notice you do like me and hang mirrors high, so they dont’ cut your head off when looking at your outfit. I don’t get to rearrange much, I have no open wall space because of all the windows and logs.

Oh the sippy cups…they’re everywhere! 🙂 And YES about the mirrors! We are a really tall family, so hanging ’em high is a necessity! (not to mention the toddler that would otherwise pull them down…)

I love rearranging, but some rooms in my house I feel like I’m stuck with the way they are because of the shape of the room. Maybe I could look at some things to move around even if I found that the big items have to stay where they are.

Something I’ve done in the past is change some of the small pieces out with similar ones from other rooms. It’s a great refresher!
