Let’s just start this post off with the obvious confession: these photos are not of chocolate bites. I’m sorry I’m not sorry though – they are phenomenal and it’s probably a good thing that I didn’t actually make the original recipe. If I had I have a feeling that I would have run out to buy more peanut butter and protein powder. And I might look a tad bit too similar to someone whose last name rhymes with ‘marzenegger.’
What do you mean ‘marzenegger’ isn’t a word?!
I guess what I’m saying here is that it’s a good thing that I only had the required amount of peanut butter and protein powder or else all of the hard work I’ve been doing with Insanity would be swirling right down the drain due to a probable overdose of snack bites.
I’m going to take this time to say that I get a little bummed when people post recipes for “bites” that require a lot of random ingredients. I mean, I’m all for the benefits of medjool dates but if I’m being honest I never buy them. Plus they look a little like massive bugs whose name rhymes with ‘coaches.’ And homey ain’t down wit dat.
Suffice to say when I read Teri‘s {AMAZING!!!} blog about Chocolate Cayenne Protein Snack Bites I practically fell off the couch and ran to the kitchen to make them. Did I have the ingredients? Well, not totally but sort of. But I haaaaaaaaaaaad to make them and I’m so so so glad I did and am now scouting out chocolate protein powders to actually make the real deal. Chocolate and cayenne together are simply dreamy.
So here’s what I did: I used vanilla protein powder (it was all I had) instead of the chocolate variety, nixed the cayenne because of the whole lack of chocolate, but left everything else the same. These are delicious, filling and just the perfect amount of sweet! Teri delivered y’all…now go get to making your own!
This recipe looks great..so does the original one..I would have never thought to put cayenne pepper! I agree, I can do the same thing-eat too many bites, then all your hard work goes out the window.
I am excited I came across your blog via Edible Perspective-I used to live in Fort Collins and now I live in Denver-as of mid-April this year. Excited to see more great recipes and your adventures in mommyhood…congrats!
thanks so much for the shoutout! i’m SO glad you liked them! I want to try the vanilla ones now!
BTW, i tried my (ahem) fifth batch rolling them in cacao nibs (speaking of random ingredients I never use) and they were terrible. Simple is best!
haha! good to know! maybe chocolate chips or almonds next time?
These look great!! I’m with you on recipes with a ton of random ingredients. I much prefer simple ones.
