Getting My Run On (Again) || HeathersDish.com

It’s been a long time since I touched on the subject of health or fitness. Having mentioned it a few times in passing hardly counts as transparency, and because I consider myself a pretty normal person – note that I said that, my husband may tell a different story – I believe that sharing my normal-girl struggles in this little space may actually help someone else. I don’t expect it to; no, I don’t consider myself to have anything particularly noteworthy to say most day, but the Lord has done much with this online space in the hearts of others. I know I’m not alone in what’s to follow in this post, and my prayer is that the words that scatter forth will be truth from God alone, that none of it would be from Heather, and that something in here will encourage you today.

Many many blog posts ago this little online space was what was considered a Healthy Living Blog, meaning that I posted primarily about attempting to live a healthy lifestyle. It boasted of healthy food choices, workouts, and everyday happenings in the form of three posts a day (OY!) and countless angled shots of random plates of food. As time went on I started to move away from that kind of blogging mainly because 3 posts a day was hard to do and I was craving quality over quantity. I also had started to understand that my heart was in creating recipes, making approachable and delicious food that I could share, and stretching myself to take better photographs. A few weeks in I knew that I had been led to do this, that this is where all of my searching for the “perfect job” had led me.

Now here we are today. The past year my mom, sister and I have been tracking our food and exercise together and while most of the time I eat pretty well, the past few months I have not. I’ve allowed myself too many cheat days and too many moments of weakness. I have consistently worked out, because I truly do love to move, but I have negated those sweat sessions by filling up on junk.

As it stands today I’m in a really healthy place with food, and have a deep hunger to learn how to cook healthfully and make wise decisions. I’m also in a place where exercise is, as always, a huge love of mine, but I also don’t have the time or the need to work out for an hour every day. With a toddler on one hand and a LOT of freelance work, blogging and book writing on the other all I can really afford is about 30 minutes per day 4 times a week and 60 minutes of yoga 1-2 times a week. Still a lot compared to some, I know, but still.

So what do I do WHEN I workout these days? Well, other than the yoga I’ve been running a few miles each day and doing some strength training. There’s no real set schedule or distance, but regardless of what I’m doing I need a good shoe to get me there. I talked a while back about running again, another post about Mizuno running shoes, and the things I said in that post still stand true. I’m still only logging a few miles and Mizuno, as it turns out, is still my idyllic running shoe. Just enough support, enough lightness, but super durable and great for other kinds of cross-training.

One of the things I love about this shoe is the shear comfort. It’s gorgeous, which we all know matters…even if not in the long run (pun totally intended). They’re really flexible, which for me allows for range of motion while running, walking, or doing strength exercises.

I’m about 2 weeks into running in my new Mizuno WaveRider 17s and couldn’t be happier with the look and the performance. One of the things they really seem to emphasize is feeling the run, not the shoe, and I can attest that holds true for me! The Wave Rider 17 will be released December 5th and retails at $114.95 MSRP. You know that makes it a perfect Christmas gift for anyone (yourself included!) who wants to stay healthy during these holiday months!

As for me, I’m going to keep kicking tail and taking names with my workouts and you guys will be seeing more healthy recipes on here, a sure sign that I’m feeding you the same thing I’m feeding myself and my family. Y’all can keep me accountable, mmmmmK? 🙂

The best thing is that you’re in a place where you feel comfortable! Mizunos are great shoes – for years now, the Wave Riders are the only running shoes my husband and brother use.

Mizunos are the only running shoe I wear now! I am on my fifth pair and won’t bother trying any other brand any time soon! I hadn’t heard of them until a few years ago when I went into a running store, and they did a fit-test on me. So glad you’re getting the word out!
