Yoga Pose Month – Child's Pose

Morning everyone!  We’re going to start off with the Yoga Pose of the Day as part of Yoga Pose Month being hosted by What Kate Ate and Carrots ‘N’ Cake!  My pose is Child’s Pose:

Another variation of it is Extended Child’s Pose, where your arms are outstretched:

Child’s pose is an awesome way to just relax and remember to breathe.  Also, according to YogaJournal.com, it:

  • Gently stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles
  • Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and fatigue
  • Relieves back and neck pain when done with head and torso supported
Who wouldn’t want to do this pose?  I highly recommend you check out Yoga Journal’s page on Child’s Pose for variations, contraindications, anatomical focus, and so on.  Yoga has become a huge part of my fitness and flexibility routine, and I can’t imagine NOT doing it now!  Namaste 🙂
Dinner last night was my quick version of Rachel Ray’s Mexican Deep-Dish Pizza, homemade “refried” beans, and some chips:
For the pizza, I used a store-bought fat free cornbread mix and followed the instructions on the box rather than Rachel’s recipe.  That way I made sure this was as fat free and low-cal as possible.  For the meat, I used a store-bought burrito spice mix (not a lot of time this week!) and ground turkey.  The cheese was a little part-skim mozzarella, which was all we had on hand at that point.  We really like this recipe a lot, and I highly recommend it!
For the beans: Drain one can of pinto beans, or whatever beans you have on hand.  Mix with 1 cup of salsa and bring to a simmer.  With a potato masher, mash the beans and salsa together.  I added about 3 cups of baby spinach to get some more veggies in.  Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or whatever else you might want to use!  We served with some corn tortilla chips on the side for dipping, but it’s great by itself too.
Upon my return from the store I made Mama Pea’s KIND bars:
HOLY HEAVEN.  These almost make me want to turn vegan.  Almost.  If only steak didn’t taste so darn amazing…
Anyway, these are amazing, and if you don’t make them you are surely cutting 5 years off of your life.  Just sayin’ 😉 (by the way, I’m kidding…you won’t take years off of your life.  But they are really good!)
Keira is such a good kitchen scavenger helper!
The rest of the night was consumed with cleaning, laundry, and then eventually some sleeping.  This morning I got up early and did some strength training and yoga, showered, and got ready for work.  Breakfast was made on my way out the door:
6 oz of Greek yogurt and a crumbled Mama Pea KIND bar on top!  I was pretty upset when I finished since I wanted to eat more.  You have to love breakfasts like that!
Today when I was getting ready I was thinking about how excited I was about some new mascara I bought last night.  Made me think about how new mascara is basically my equivalent of PF Flyers in The Sand Lot.  You know, the shoes that make you run faster and jump higher?  Except new mascara makes my eyelashes longer, thicker, and black 🙂  I just love new products, even if it’s the exact same thing I always use, just in a new container.  LOVE!
What’s your favorite beauty product and why do you like it so much? I think my favorite is probably mascara because it brings out my eyes.  My eyes are one of my favorite body parts, and anything I can do to bring them out I’ll likely love!

Great job on the yoga pose! It’s interesting to note the benefits of child’s pose even though it appears so simple.

YAY for Yoga Pose May!! 🙂 Child pose is one of the BEST poses. You don’t even have to practice yoga regularly to get into that position and just unwind. It stretches you in all the right places! Your pizza looks like HEAVEN! Thanks Heather

Child’s pose is my FAVORITE!! I end every kind of workout I do with it! It just makes my body feel AWESOME.

And my favorite beauty product is also mascara! And I have tried a million different kinds, but I always go back to lash blast by covergirl. That stuff kicks booty!

Good job on those bars, sister! I’m overlooking that steak comment 🙂

I like concealer. It hides the fact that I’m up until 12:30 and up at 6. Or at least I like to think it does.

Hey girl! I love child’s pose, so relaxing! I do my Yoga pose later on in the month! wohoo!

Your dog is such a cutie!!! And that meal looks amazing, I must try it. I love casserole type meals..so comforting and delicious.

I also love mascara…it’s probably the one beauty product that I think is a must if I decide to wear make up, it can really brighten up your face and make you look more awake.

    Hmmmmmmm….fave beauty product?
I don’t wear makeup, so I’d have to say sunscreen and chapstick. I’m so glam, eh?!

Mascara and under-eye concealer are key when sleep is minimal (which was a lot in college)! Mascara is always a must though.

My favorite beauty product *was* the Prescriptives super line preventer syrum. They went out of business last year and I’ve been trying to find something like it ever since 🙁 Any advice ?

Lately I’m loving lip products. I feel so lady-like when I have lipstick on. It reminds me of my Grandma who was always applying bright lipsticks.

I keep telling myself I should do some yoga… but I never get to do it.

Did I tell you that I checked out Nate’s website and loved his photos? I can’t remember anything these days 🙁

My husband and I just watched the Sand Lot last week! Such a fun movie.

I’d have to say my favorite product is the Primer Potion by Urban Decay. It’s the only “expensive” product I use, but it lasts forever and a day. Plus, it makes my eye shadows last a lot longer, because I don’t have to use as much for the colors to look the way I want them to.

I’ve never tried that Rachael Ray recipe but I’m a huge fan of her. Yeah, she can be a bit..perky.. but I love her.

Ahhh I love mascara too because my eyes are my favorite part of my body.

The Kind bars look so good. My fave product is also mascara – specifically lash zoom by Mac. I don’t put on makeup all the time, but I always wear mascara.
