I don’t know about you guys but I’m a sucker for before and afters. The idea that through sheer willpower, drive and determination a person can essentially go on a journey that completely changes the way they look, behave, live – and then see visible proof of that change – captures my attention every time. See, it never escapes me that a transformation isn’t an overnight sensation, but takes a significant amount of time and usually leaves the person stronger in spirit on the other side.
Today I find myself on the (continuous journey to) an after of a different kind. It was almost exactly 365 days ago that I decided to join Beautycounter, a company on a mission to reform the personal care products industry. While I may not look much different now than I did then, there has been an internal journey that has completely changed the woman that I am today. I am more confident, stronger in spirit, smarter in business, wiser with money, more aware of the needs of my body. My skin is certainly more consistently clear, smooth and vibrant, but that pales in comparison to the internal changes that have taken place.
If you had seen the full scope of where I was at 365 days ago you would have seen a woman who felt lost in her career, scared in her parenting, constantly worried about finances, unsure of the future. You would have seen confidence waning in my chosen career path and I would have been the first to tell you that I had no idea if this blog would still be alive now or not.
Somehow, though, I got the courage to ask a friend about Beautycounter – the nitty gritty over-the-line details – and she was gracious enough to answer them honestly. I read reviews on the products, looked into the business model, looked for reasons to not go for it. And yet. I couldn’t find a reason to not, so I did.
Guys? I can only say that that decision was a God thing. I truly believe I was led to Beautycounter, even though I wasn’t sure why. But if you were to see the internal after you’d see night and day.
I’m certainly not perfect, but today – 365 days later – I have infinitely more confidence in who I am, what I stand for, what I expect, how to run a business. I have the energy and desire to dream bigger and to create, and I know that this business is going to propel my family’s future forward in really positive ways. I get to be part of an actual movement of people who care about changing the trajectory of the lives of millions through education and product reform.
The difference a year can make is incredible; my own before and after has blown me away.
So let me ask you this: are you someone who could benefit from increased financial freedom, social impact, or business ownership? Do you want or need a change of pace? Are you a fellow blogger who’s unsure of other ways to monetize your blog and still have significant impact in the lives of your audience? If any of that describes you I would love to be that person you reach out to with questions about how you could make Beautycounter part of your own before and after. Please email me at hsdisarro (at) gmail (dot) com – I would love to hear from you!
