Sweet Cherry Preserves

Do you ever buy – oh I don’t know – a pound of cherries and then leave them at the bottom of the fruit drawer and forget about them?  Not that I’ve done that…um.  Hmmm.

OK fine, I did that.  But then along came this amazing recipe from The Cilantropist for Sweet Cherry Preserves.  My cherries were saved!

A few days ago I asked on Twitter who had any ideas for pitting cherries without a cherry pitter and got some cool answers, but there’s one that I used and it worked like a charm.  Teri said to take a straw and push the pit out of the cherry…perfect!

I will say that a cherry pitter is probably more consistent, but on the fly the straw method is awesome and a lot faster than using a knife!

Moral of the story: you need to make this.  STAT.

Oh, and happy Sunday 🙂

The rounded end of bobby pin works really well for pitting cherries. My parents have 2 sour cherry trees and 1 sweet cherry tree, so I have lots of experience pitting cherries!

Wow I am so impressed that you pitted a pound of cherries with a straw!!! Now that is what I call being resourceful! 😉 Glad you loved the recipe, I am actually hoping to make another batch this week!

I wish I would have had this recipe 2 days ago!! I just threw out a partial bag of cherries that sat too long! Darn! I am for sure doing this next time.

I’m not a fan of cherries themselves but love the flavor, this sounds so wonderful! That bread looks wonderful too! 🙂

I just made cherry jam, too and LOVED it. It’s excellent in baking, ESPEcially breakfast oat bars.
