It’s not often that I deviate from a smoothie recipe once I’ve found one that works for me. For the longest time (and I mean going strong for 3 years) I’ve been making a chocolate-blueberry-peanut butter smoothie that has been packed with goodness and that I’ve enjoyed the flavor of immensely. I mean really, who has time and resources and storage space for 5-7 individualized smoothies per week?
Not I, y’all. Not I.
So now that you know I like to get stuck in my own ruts – especially in smoothie ruts – you should be shocked TO YOUR VERY CORE that today I’m offering you a change of pace. A rare look at a scary time in my life: the changing of a smoothie recipe. Yes, it’s true. I may have found a new smoothie that I can enjoy for the next two years without changing it!
First you should know that I didn’t come upon this decision lightly. See, in order to buy my normal tub of Vega Chocolate Protein & Greens I have had to go to a different Walmart than my normal one because that’s the only place where I can find it for $10 less than Target/Whole Foods/Kroger/Amazon. But I don’t like going to that Walmart. It’s crowded and a little sketchy and I just like MY Walmart, thankyouverymuch. And I like my Walmart, but they don’t have the Vega products.
Well, I should say they didn’t. Because now they do. But only in vanilla.
Let me paint you a little picture: Saturday night I’m hanging out in my pajamas and placing my Walmart grocery pickup order. A little voice inside of me tells me to search for “Vega” just to see if anything pops up. Divine intervention? Yes, I believe so. Anyway, I do and behold!!! Vega Protein & Greens…but only in vanilla.
Y’all, I wish I wasn’t this petty, but I sat there for a good 5 minutes pondering whether or not I wanted to make a trip to Sketch Walmart instead of just trying the vanilla protein powder, saving a ton of time and stress, and ultimately money on gas. Five minutes later I bit the bullet and did the dang thing. The rest, I suppose, is history!
This leads me to today’s smoothie. I absolutely adore how thick and creamy and dessert-like it is. The vanilla flavor is great, although I always like to add a smidge extra because extra vanilla tastes like cookies exploded to life in my glass. <—– (I don’t even know what that means). And did you know that frozen cauliflower in smoothies is undetectable? True story, proven by the fact that I’ve served it that way to my picky eaters and haven’t heard a lick of complaining. We all just thought that spinach in smoothies was tricky…turns out you can add an entire salad without anyone noticing a thing!
So there you have it. I’ve been really enjoying the change of pace with my smoothie situation, and as it turns out blueberries are a great fruit as well. Really any berry would be an awesome addition! So just promise you wont’ be like me and wait two years to try this – I promise you’ll be glad you tried it!
