There was a week between when I got my new iPhone 5 (thanks to the great trade-in option right now!) and when I got my OtterBox case and y’all? Girlfriend almost had a heart attack about a bajillion times.
I guess it’s probably the whole “we’re not made of money” thing and I’ve seen so many shattered iPhone screens that I cringe any time my phone falls even a centimeter onto a padded surface.
I guess the big problem with that one-week overlap was the fact that I didn’t realize the iPhone 5 is a different size – which shows exactly how much attention I pay to such things – and therefore my old case wouldn’t fit. No big deal, I decided to go for something that I knew would take really great care of my new phone.
As I can imagine with most of us, the thought of buying a new iPhone doesn’t sit really well because the cost is so high. Granted, I really like my phone and use it all the time – not just for work things, but for photos and videos of Wes that we send to family and have printed out for ourselves. It’s a great phone, but a huge investment, so I wanted to do everything I could to take care of it.
So here we are with the ultimate in phone cases: the OtterBox Defender Case. Just FYI, there is one more series that withstands even more than the Defender, the Armor Series, but for my daily purposes I knew the Defender was the way to go. It withstands bumps, minor falls, and shocks; it has a built in screen protector (great for having Wes around!), silicone parts to keep dust and debris out; and a belt clip (which I haven’t used).
With my old phone I had a pretty standard case and a screen protector, and with Weston exploring the phone more and more it was just starting to wear on it. It was time for a new phone anyway, but living with a toddler was definitely starting to take its toll.
The week between when I got my new phone and got the case (I ordered it online at OtterBox’s site) I was ridiculously protective of my phone, basically opting to leave it in our room instead of take it somewhere for fear that I would obliterate it. The moment I got the case on the phone though? I felt really at peace about it.
I know, it’s just a phone. But for me it’s also an investment in both business and in life.
To be fully honest it was a little hard getting used to the size of the case after a week of having just the phone, but it only took a few hours for it to feel normal. I could also tell a slight different in using the screen; I felt like I needed to use a little more pressure for typing, etc., but Nate said he couldn’t tell a difference at all.
Otherwise it was just so nice to know that my phone is well-protected! Plus it’s just such a pretty color 😉
I was not compensated for this post; I just found a product that I really love and wanted to share!

I have an Otterbox, too!! To show me how strong the case is, when I bought my iPhone the guy selling it to me literally chucked it a few feet from us to show me how durable it was. After I recovered from my heart attack I was able to recognize the humor in the situation, lol. But he actually told me that his iPhone (in the Otterbox) was run over by a car and still survived. These things are worth every penny!

YES! Completely agree. It’s an investment to protect and investment!
