Ocho de Mayo & Happy Mother's Day

Good morning everyone! How’s your weekend been so far?  Mine’s been a blast!  We had our Ocho de Mayo party yesterday at a local park, and it was a blast!

We had all sorts of great food…fruit:

Chips with salsa and guacamole:

And on the grill we warmed up Spanish rice, black beans, shredded chicken, and I topped my little “bowl” with cheese, salsa, guac, and some sour cream.  OK, you can drool now 😉

There were also a ton of cookies, but alas I did not get any good pictures of them!  We had lots of other stuff there too…a slackline:

Apparently you’re supposed to have enough balance to lay on them?

Oh, and walk on them too!

We had boys that played with fire (all of them, not just Jason!):

And we had happy couples:

A pinata that the kids got to hit (no photos of kiddos today…I don’t have the parents’ permission, and you never know who’s reading!)

And a scene straight out of a “this is what I like about Texas” song!

We also played ladderball, lawn darts (before kids got there), frisbee, football, and kickball.  The weather was a little cold, but we all had the best time anyway!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms out there!!!

I know there are a lot of women out there who could say this, but I am convinced that I have the most amazing mother and mother-in-law in the world!  Both women are incredible blessings in my life, and I can’t imagine what kind of hooligan I would be without them 🙂

I am so thankful that I have such an amazing mommy!  She’s always been there for my sister and I, making sure that we grew up with great manners and ladylike character.  Here she is next to me at our rehearsal dinner in 2007:

She and my dad always encouraged a sense of adventure in us.  When we moved out to Colorado in 2008 they were two of our biggest supporters.  Not because they wanted us to move further away, but because they knew that it would be what we needed to do.  Plus, they could come visit us any time!

My mom has been the best example of a loving and beautiful wife.  She and my dad are still so in love after almost 40 years, and their relationship has been an example that my sister and I have always longed to follow.  Seeing my mom be such a loving wife and mother has made me desire to be just like her!

My mom is beautiful, kind, loving, incredibly smart, humble, patient, charismatic, a fabulous cook, a wonderful hostess, and she loves the Lord with all of her heart, mind, and spirit.  There’s no other person in the world like her, and she touches the lives of everyone around her.

In short, my mom is a superhero, and I want to be just like her!

Happy Mother’s Day Mommy!

I love you more than words could ever express,

Heather

This is such a sweet post. I love all of the pictures! And I want to say thank you for all of your amazing comments about my layer of the heart post. It literally meant the world to me that you got your friends to read the article. And for the fact that something that I am so passionate about was able to strike you so hard because you relate to it so much. It’s women like you that make me want to write even more about it. So thank you so much for making it worth the time and effort. 🙂

I LOVE slacklining! It takes some practice but it is SO fun once you get it. Are any of your friends rock climbers? It is an activity born out of the climbing community 🙂
